Quite happy I missed Hardwired becoming a weekend staple by one weekend. Gotta say the whole no repeat thing is kinda.... well.. boring now. It's the same songs in a different order. I (stupidly) figured it would be like the St Anger tour with different tracks in different cities kinda thing. Oh well. I'll still have a great time next year, I'm sure.

I feel for them knowing I’m in the minority at these shows, and the band has pressure to deliver to more casual fans with half as many “hits” to play a night. They switched up the order on a few things over the European tour, in a way that seemed like they were refining the idea of the setlist (as opposed to changing it for variety sake).
But some of their decisions still didn’t make sense to me lol. Why play Cyanide and I Disappear once each this year. but kept bringing back Dirty Window? They had a lot of rehearsed songs they didn’t utilize at all, that would’ve gone over as well or better than a couple songs they keep playing this year.

They had a lot of rehearsed songs they didn’t utilize at all, that would’ve gone over as well or better than a couple songs they keep playing this year. They've done this on the last few tours, come out with 10 rare/cool songs played once or twice, then just settle into rotating the same 3-4.
I remember at one show early in the HW tour, Unforgiven 3 and Cyanide were played, then never again. Then at the end of the tour they had Thingy, Outlaw, Clover, Whiskey and a few others....Clover and Whiskey stayed and still get played now. Then we had Bleeding Me, Until it Sleeps, Cyanide, Day, I Disappear, Leper, King Nothing but now only Whiskey, Clover, King, Leper, Day have stuck around.
Our hopes get high early on thinking a bunch of different/cool songs will be in rotation but I think it's just them experimenting with a bunch out early in the tour so they can pick the couple that (I assume) the crowd respond best to and those songs form the rotations for that the next 1-2 years to come.

That yellow colour though. They did that on purpose. The yellow represents the light (Lux). And it stands out among the black/skull/demon-metal imagery.

So who's hitting the Saudi show? Of all places to play...those $$$ must have been good, but guessing they'll need to tone down the Blackened whiskey marketing while there

I made a post on the other boards with a cheeky setlist and alternate lyrics but it was deleted by the mods
e.g.
You Disappear One (Police! Have taken my arms, taken my legs, taken my soul) Creeping Death (Slaves, workers trafficked to serve, the Sheik) No Anesthesia, Pulling Teeth
etc...
All said in jest, but of course its also true...whether it's F1s or Metallica, corporations and big business cant so no to that Saudi oil money and put aside all principals and values to get a piece of the pie

Too Far Gone is soooo much better than every other 72S song live. Almost no doubt this is going to be the Moth Into Flame of the album.
They sounded tight at this Saudi Arabia show.

Can’t remember if I’ve already mentioned it but I didn’t buy tix for the Denmark show, chose the one in Hamburg and that experience didn’t affect me enough to pursue tix in DK.
Anyways my buddy called me a few weeks ago and said that he had gotten standing tix for the Copenhagen shows so apparently I’m going anyways.
I’m pretty concerned about the sound to be honest, it’s was shit in Hamburg so it should be an utter disaster in Parken. Oh well the tix were free and there’s beers so it’s gonna be alright.

Here's to a great 2024 run🍻 I hope you all have fun at whichever shows you may be attending. Feels kind of weird knowing that I'll 99% probably never see them live again, and I'm okay with that.

To be honest I've been okay with that for years. Probably since the Royal Arena shows in 17. I've attened every show in Denmark since 96, but when they visited Parken a few years back I couldn't be borthered. It was indeed a strange feeling. As of today I'm only buying tix, and this goes for most bands really, because of the social factor of having a good time with my mates. The actual band is almost a little pointless, all livemusic is great, even if it's an unknown semi shitty band. - Hanging out with my mates - Getting some beers in - Looking at some fine ass - Music All this could change if Metallica decided to do a club tour witch an obscure setlist, then I would probably me the most exited since 09 or something.

It's not the same as the old days, but May-September is set to be most dense touring period the guys have had in years. There's no giant EU/NA tour gap, or any breaks mid-leg like US 2023 had.

Any predictions for this year? Kirk mentioned rehearsing Thingy on their new podcast. Hopefully that happens, they sounded great doing it in 2019 and it's one of those songs they generally should be playing more in this era. I also hope they aren't just playing Orion & Ktulu for instrumentals. To Live is to Die is perfect for this tour format, and it deserves some more live plays than the one 30th anniversary one.
I'm thinking Room of Mirrors and Crown of Barbed Wire will both be debuted in Spain.

Maybe they'll replace You Must Burn with TTTSNB in the slow chugger slot, and throw in another 72 track elsewhere.
Too Far Gone Shadows Follow 72 Lux Should be coming back, the other slots for the new album tracks is anything goes.
The slower new stuff IMO doesn't come across well in such a large live environment. The average crowd seems bored and unfamiliar with them and kills the vibes.
Like Inamorata could be amazing live, but in a smaller setting.

Bring back DM this year guys. Even though DM is probably my least favorite Metallica album, I'd love to hear some songs from there live. Mainly just so that there would be more deep cuts than the usual suspects.

I think Inamorata will feature early in a set. Its a long one but I feel they (Lars) like to get the challenge out the way so they can get back to familiar territory.

Inamorata sounds so good, but man, if people were bored during You Must Burn... I think for the most part it's too long and is something you only appreciate in solitude with your thoughts. The first 4 minutes the average Sandman NEM crowd are going to go get beers or take a piss. Really wish they save this one for something more intimate.

Agreed on this, it’s a really weird stadium song. I also don’t like how the placement of the 72S songs themselves is a built in pee break. If you know the set, you know where the new songs are, but if you don’t they’re halfway through the set so you might need a break anyway if that’s your style. I was hoping they were gonna open shows with the new songs now that they’re established, but no dice.

Inamorata followed by Ktulu? Ouch wtf? That's like 30 minutes with intro tapes and all that.
