Breadfan for Whiskey is both surprising and awesome. I miss the rotating cover slot from WM.

Inamorata followed by Ktulu? Ouch wtf? That's like 30 minutes with intro tapes and all that. It was awesome. Especially from my vantage point in the Snakepit:

So what a fucking weekend. Me and two mates, seating tickets (BLOCK U REPRAZENT). We stayed in Flemings Hotel on Leopoldstraße. Arrived Thursday early evening and got settled in. We had all agreed to enter the M&G and Snakepit contests and we’d figure out what happens if we one. Checking emails: no M&G and no Snakepit… for two of us. For me: Snakepit passes for Sunday. HOLEEEEEE SHIIIIITT The hard decision was, luckily, made one of my mates. I had won tickets to the House of Vans show in 2016 and took him to that so he ‘gifted’ the pit pass to our other friend. Phew! I was lucky enough to get a yellow Jazz III pick from Kirk at the end of the show so that was kinda of a consolation gift. Anyway… getting to the actual pit was a fucking journey… They wouldn’t let us down the staircase to the floor cos our tickets were seated. Even though I had the wristband on. Had to walk the entire circumference of the stadium (on the advice of security folks) and to end up back where we started (U block) and then told them I wasn’t going until someone in charge came to speak to me. Finally got it sorted and into the pit after an hour of trying… We got in at around5pm and there was like, 50 people, there. We hung out near the tunnel to stay out of the sun. We ended up by one of the big yellow bumps. Cool. This will do. I then looked up… Oh. Oh. We’re by a mic. Oh. OH. Very excited to say the least. Support bands were great. INK definitely and indoor band though given the theatrical nature of their stage show. FFDP seemed to be having the most fun time of their lives, especial Ivan the singer. And then Metallica were here. And it was just fucking surreal to be that close to a band who have meant so much to me. I’ve been lucky enough to meet Lars in a pretty unique situation and environment but to be so close to him (and the others) in their second home: the live stage, was truly amazing. They’re not getting any younger and it hit me when I was staring up at the man who created the soundtrack to most of my life that this is the first and perhaps the only time I am that close to make eye contact (which we did a bunch) so I made sure that when he looked my way all I could do was fist bump my heart to try and let him know what he and the music means. Anyway. I cried during Sandman because crowds at gigs united together reminds me that we can be, as a species, united for a common positive goal at least some of the time. I cried because this might be my last Metallica show. I cried because I was so fucking happy to have had this once (??) in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you to the Metallica organisation for running this kind of contest to allow us this kind of moment. I’ll remember it and treasure it for the rest of my days. You can see a bunch of photos from night 2 over on my IG here - www.instagram.com/jayeyeworthy/

Great stuff jayc, Im happy for you man. I feel your love for them in your posts. Snakepit is one of my few wants. I really felt I had a good chance of winning the opportunity when I managed to score the Black Ticket for WorldWired in Aus/NZ, but we know how that all went.
Glad the posters here dont take for granted that they have the opportunity to see Metallica (without world travel)

I'm tired, it's like 6:30 in the morning. I just had a little tear with you reading that stuff about the Sandman moment. I get it, we get it. Life moves fast. I'm so happy for you dude. This made my day.

I really felt I had a good chance of winning the opportunity when I managed to score the Black Ticket for WorldWired in Aus/NZ, but we know how that all went. Glad the posters here dont take for granted that they have the opportunity to see Metallica (without world travel) Thanks bud. It was a lifelong ambition fulfilled for me. I got to "tell" James what he and his music means to me. I got to do it in a way that didn't require a perfect set of words or the strength of self-possession to keep my voice from wobbling or crying or whatever. I got to show him whilst he riffed the fuck out 1 metre above me. He might never have actually looked at me really. But I choose to think that he did and when he did, he saw me eyes wide and happy with my hand on my heart. Couldn't have asked for more. I'm tired, it's like 6:30 in the morning. I just had a little tear with you reading that stuff about the Sandman moment. I get it, we get it. Life moves fast. I'm so happy for you dude. This made my day. I really appreciate this. All the way through both night I kept feeling emotional. I'm pretty sure this was my last time. Given how they want to "tour" now and the costs and their age and my age and all that. So, I got to say goodbye in the best way: night one in the stand with my two oldest friends, the ones who I was in a band with, in my teenage years, the band that formed because of our shared love for Metallica. Night two, I was actually inside the music. As it poured from the speakers, the men creating this sound, the wonderful cacophony and noise were all around me: circling me almost like a hug. If this is the last goodbye, there is no better way to do it.

Came here to respond properly to your write up on Judas but can see it posted here too. Sounds like an incredible experience!
And what an amazing little write up mate, thanks for sharing...it feels like we were right there with you. It's funny, when you've been at these special shows (this one, the Vans one in 2016) I really get this vibe of one of us being there, representing us handful of oldies that have been around talking shit about Metallica online for 20 odd years now. Not that we are any different from any one of the other 10s of thousands of people in attendance, but just having you there witnessing something like the Inamorata live debut from the snakepit, having an in person human to human connection with the band and other audience members, potentially for the last time, makes it so much more real for me than just reading a setlist of one of the 200 shows on this tour or watching a YouTube phone vid on my PC does.

That resonated. The more I think on it, the gig, it takes on a different flavour. I'm writing something a bit longer form now. I think my initial post(s) contained the flavour but I need to do it more justice.

Had to login just to like your post jayc. <3 I got lucky to be in the snake pit in 2019 and my experience was amazing too. Getting to high five James and having them that close to you was so memorable.

Metallica played in Milan, Italy at the I-Days festival last night. It was a single shot show instead of the No Repeat thing, and the setlist was, well, kinda predictable, but with a few funny things.
Surprise Holier appearance? Sandman played fourth? Kinda surprising that neither Fade nor Fuel are on the list. But otherwise it's a greatest hits with a couple of tracks from the new album.

Kind of an atypical set. It looks odd on paper lol, Seek/One/MOP to close is a first I think. I love that they played 4 72S songs. Hate that they played 15 songs!

Some rumblings this morning about an Aussie visit. A mate sent me some info from a ticket site (dont believe it), and also the big radio station made comment about it too (dont listen to them, so was only told)
Like always, awaiting official news.

After a year or whatever since 72 came out, Shadows Follow is still in my top repeat listens and works so great live. It just has this bad ass groove and doesn't overstay it's welcome, while offering up spicy little highlights here and there which always leave me wanting more.

I'm going to see the double show in Helsinki on June 7 and 9. There's a lot going on in between on Saturday June 8 around town, including a Metallica photo exhibition, showings of Metallica movies, and a gig by Apocalyptica at the Helsinki Ice Hall. I think I'm going to go there, too. You never know who might show up...

Flying over to Helsinki with my brother next week from the Uk for my 9th and 10th Metallica shows, first one since Manchester in 2019. Couldn't be more excited, the prospect of seeing them twice in 3 days is mindblowing. Got tickets for Apocalyptica show as well

Lars was in the Danish morning show last week, my man is living extremely healthy these days. A vegan too. He looked very skinny, a little too skinny for my taste but I think the clothing made it look worse than it was. I’m mostly hoping for some DM stuff, Inamorata would be nice but I’m thinking shadows is a much better live song.

But how I wish this was either a normal stadium outdoor show of even better an indoor event at a small arena.
I hated that stage a year ago in Hamburg and I’m gonna hate it again this time :(

I hated that stage a year ago in Hamburg and I’m gonna hate it again this time :( Yeah, I've seen Metallica 8 times, and two of those gigs have been indoors. I think I prefer that over the outdoor mega shows. Feels a bit more intimate, and the sound is often better when it doesn't just spread everywhere. Although when I saw them at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki back in 2018, the first song of the set, Hardwired, sounded really muddy and quiet. They got it fixed for the second song though.

Even if just to see and hear Cliuff Em All on a big screen.
