I think it's funny that of the 6 new songs metallica is playing live only 1 is in my top 6 on the record LOL

While they perform You Must Burn!, I wished that during that midsecton,they dim the lights on stage and go red, dark and eerie lightning like it would be in a horror movie ritual scene.

Was listening to the album today, it definitely has a Load vibe going on, more laid back and not as tight as DM or HWTSD. if i made a playlist of HWTSD disc 1 and the 2nd half of 72 seasons and took it back to 2015 and gave it to you - musically you'd never guess in a million years it was 2 different albums 6 years apart and that goes for everyone. |

Me again and my If Darkness Had a Son appreciation post. When this song was released, everyone was like "Meh, mediocre" and all that shit and I was like wait what the fuck? Are we listening to the same song? I still think it is the best song on the album, and maybe one of the best in 30 years. I seriously believe it would sound better if it were on Load.

Darkness is one of my least favorite off the album. I still find it just drags on forever and doesn't take you anywhere you haven't been already within the first minute of the song. Sleepwalk has actually overtaken Darkness in my bottom 3 off 72. I'm not saying I hate it, but it definitely gets the most skips if it randomly comes on. It's about as exciting as Sad But True is these days for me🤣

The transition to the last prechorus and chorus of Sleepwalk is so crappy, probably the worst songwriting choice to my ears since St Anger. I kinda wish they fully committed to writing a 4-5 minute radio song with that one.

Idk, I feel that way about the last chorus of You Must Burn too, but that one feels more like I could take it or leave it. Sleepwalk has no right being a 7 minute song.
But I take it back, there are a few just as bad. The slow section of Spit is another extra dumb section.

As usual the album's biggest weakness is that most of the songs could be trimmed down a minute or two and be better off for it. I think Chasing Light is the biggest offender. The intro and entire middle section are wack.

I really love that main riff too. I loved Moderus's edit that went "THERE'S NO LIGHT" right into the riff like Fuel, instead of that giant intro.
