They're going for Diamond Head/Budgie/1982 on this and I fucking love it. DM and especially HW gave me enough modern Metallica doing thrash, I'm so excited for where they're going with this.

I came here to wonder why the fuck was the tabloid announcing a new Metallica tour with a strange name only to discover it's because apparently they put out a new song 30 minutes ago and announced a new album and apparently a tour and what the fuck. Cool song I guess, maybe a little by the numbers, weird name. Lars is using his old Black Album era kit on the video, neat.

Love the main riff. Sounds old school and yet so fresh. That album artwork though, they are going to have to explain that in detail because what the actual hell.
Liner Notes from Metallica.com:
That album statement sounds just weird. And I'm in for it. Let's go!

IT'S HAPPENING!
Oh god those sneaky bastards. I managed to listen to Lux Aeterna twice on my break at work, and it sounded good! Not a mind-blowing experience like Hardwired was back in the day, but it's good! And a new album coming! And a tour! With two shows in each city, with two different setlists! Oh, it's in 2024. Well, more time to get hyped up!
Ahhh. Life is good again, and there's meaning to it. Well played, Metallica. Well played.

I'm shocked their first singles for the last two albums now have been little 3 minute rippers. Also title track as the opener again is interesting. It's supposedly the same length as HTSD (and the same amount of songs too) and I'm really excited to see the track lengths.

I figured a fresh topic was good to get all of the info in one place.
72 Seasons Shadows Follow Screaming Suicide Sleepwalk My Life Away You Must Burn! Lux Æterna Crown of Barbed Wire Chasing Light If Darkness Had a Son Too Far Gone? Room of Mirrors Inamorata
RUNTIME ~ 77 minutes
“Is there a special meaning to the title?” you ask. James explains it best: “72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”

I like the new song a lot. It's a pretty different lead single compared to Hardwired, but similar in that they're both about 3 minutes long.
Also, according to the site, it's written by James and Lars only. So we'll have to wait a bit longer to see if Kirk and Rob did anything on this.

I'm really curious to see if Kirk is going to have any contributions. I'm figuring yes, but I could also see a majority of this album being written remotely by James and Lars over the pandemic. Lars mentioned they were doing a bunch of demos before one of the Metallica Mondays, excited to hear them expand more on the creative process for this one. This feels even more of a surprise than Hardwired did, we at least knew they were in the studio in 2016 from the teaser videos. IIRC they even posted a clip of Atlas before Hardwired came out.

FUCK. Full homage to Garage/KEA days. It sounds like Hit The Lights and Overkill fucked. It's a good song, I liked it.

New songs alright, a bit too happy and KEA, but I'm not complaining.

Initial thoughts.
- Horrible artwork, just horrible. - After 3 run throughs it’s in the top 10 of their worst songs - Not a fan of the album title and number of songs - Tour sounds kind of exiting, will probably buy tix for the Hamburg show - Not a fan of the video, is that white Tama drums or just the light that is fucking with me ? - Again these kind of songs are probably my least favourite kind, I just don’t like anything about it. Not one thing :( It’s oozing with Lords/Lightz vibes, but a lot worse. Riffs are extremely bland, solo awful, lyrics awful, drums plain Lars, is there even one tom hit in there ? Vocals meh.
Not complaining though, still very much exited

The single sounds like something from garage Inc imo
Specifically overkill. This is the first thing I thought of when I heard this track.

I really really like this as a first single because it doesn't give off "make One again" like TDTNC or "make fast thrash" like Hardwired. I'm just comparing singles to singles because I still adore HTSD, but I hope this is a sign that they're going further down the path of writing whatever they want. The song itself is nothing groundbreaking, but if they're going for this NWOBHM sound and not trying to be thrash for thrash sake, I'm so ready for it.

Weezer is rumored to be doing a yellow album next year too. All the old bands are running out of new color schemes and are resorting to yellows and purples lol

I hope so too, and I’m still hopeful and positive. I do think HW as a song is much better than this though. The production is very much Hw as well, which is a little surprising since they usually change their sound a lot. I can’t really hear Rob much either ? I still hate the hw artwork and design and this I will never grow to love either. Fucking yellow ?! What is wrong with these guys.

I've only listened to it on Spotify but I agree about the production. It sounds identical to HW but maybe a little less layered and fat?
Seasons is the Load to Hardwired's ReLoad (production wise).
