IMHO it goes like this:
Load >> DM >> 72S > HWTSD = ReLoad >> St. Anger.
And I've always enjoyed Cure. The riff is fun to play and reminds me a bit of some classic Dimebag feel and phrasing, specially if tunned another half-step down or with a little more gain. The lyrics are good and I find the solo pretty fitting for the song.
I also love that the break down riff from Crown of Barbed Wire is a direct reference to the riffs found on Cure, in my opinion.
PS: That being said, I'm among the minority who actually digs the lyrics and is able to enjoy more than 4 songs from St. Anger... So I'm may have a peculiar taste regarding Metallica 😅

But as far as Hardwired or 72 Seasons having better songs than the Loads, I don't buy it. More metal, sure, but better? Hardly. I'll take the 4 weakest tracks on the 72/HW records over Poor Twisted Me, Attitude, Bad Seed, Better than You, Slither, Ronnie, Prince Charming, Ain't my bitch, 2x4..... That's just me though. Is load's top end better? maybe but it's all lost in the filler festival. -------------------- I thought I was the only one on the planet that liked Cure. Literally the heaviest song on the album... maybe that's why I instantly took to Crown of Barbed Wire.

I had a couple of weeks of no 72S so I didnt overplay and kill it. Now Im listening more again and mainly via vinyl and sometimes headphones. You can really hear Rob through this album which is a huge highlight for me. And last night Sleepwalk finally clicked with me. I regarded it as the weakest song on the album so to get pumped from hearing it like that felt good. The playing order still doesnt feel "right" to me with similar paced Burn following Sleepwalk and then Lux kicking in like an opener....but this could be due to me listening to the vinyl, these 3 make up Side B.

Listened to the whole thing yesterday and only skipped You Must Burn. 72S, If Darkness Had a Son and Too Far Gone are my favourites atm.

Murder One, Screaming Suicide, 2X4, and Ronnie are equally atrocious.

I agree about the sequencing. on my MP3 player i altered the tracklist so it's 1. Lux 4. Too Far Gone 7. Seasons 10. Sleepwalk everything else is the same. (optionally removing sleep and burn works for me too as i dont care for those 2 songs. )

I can't help it if auto-correct insists it was "it's", but thanks Yes you can. You can always proofread your messages before posting them, and correct any mistakes made by auto-correct.

Sounds kinda like they tried to write Spit again and failed. Or what would happen if Spit just wasn't as good. I love those harmonies so much though.

there are *some* cool moments musically from our boys... but my god... Lou Reed's "vocals" and those lyrics will make you projectile vomit all over your computer screen

The way the Crown chord sequence is played reminds of something from Lulu, I think its The View Dragon? Dont think so, would need to relisten. Not many Metallica fans could deal with Lou BigBunny.... it was only his project. I thought it was cool he asked Metallica to participate.

I kinda agree with Alan P saying the 72S album reminded him of BM/LOS, it does feel like a bit of a step backwards.

A little bit of random ambient sounds or instruments would have been delicious. It is very 1 dimensional sonically. More tambourines and didgeridoos damn it!
