he's credited on Barbed Wire, chasing light, if darkness had a son, and the title track

he's credited on Barbed Wire, chasing light, if darkness had a son, and the title track I haven't really looked at the credits. I thought for sure the batman rif in Shadows Follow was a Kirk riff. I can't picture James writing something that goofy yet so awesome, that's Kirk territory.

I think Kirk's solos on this album are pretty damn awesome and he's only hindered by James and Lars always going into that same breakdown during solos that leads to Kirk playing parts that sound like other songs.

Inamorata could be a top 5 all time Metallica song for me, it’s probably the song I’ve heard the least, but so is Outlaw of Load. When something is truly special I automatically save it a little more.
Yes Disposable, Ride and Straw are maybe my favourite metal songs of all time, by any band. But Bleeding Me, Outlaw and now Inamorata just digs a little deeper.

Thanks for this btw, just replaced the original in my iTunes library with this after a short A-B comparison and realizing the hi-hat really was that loud in the original.

I just got my vinyl and read through some of the liner notes. The most interesting tidbit is that they started recording March 2021, which tracks with Kirk saying they were still following Covid precedures when they tracked drums. But that implies the record was mostly written in under a year, assuming from Blackened 2020 in May 2020 til March 2021.
I know those are really rough dates and they could've been writing more songs in between recording, but that feels like a very quick turnaround time for Metallica standards.

Tomorrow wasn't promised to anyone around that time, I'm sure that lit a fire under their collective asses.
I'm really enjoying this album. It's all I can really listen to at the moment, and it is only intensifying as I give it a break, then go back to it.
When DM came out, I listened to that fucker every day on my walk to and from work for 2 years! Never wore out, this one is having the same effect.
I'm going to re-read those first few reviews that came out before it dropped, and the earlier So What interviews, now that I know these songs inside and out. Will be interesting to follow along what is being discussed now with the full picture in focus.

It’s fun reading interviews and reviews once you have the album under your skin. I can see why the most negative reviews were the ones who only got to listen to the album once. It’s certainly a grower which needs many listens to digest.

I wonder if this is why they rushed his full video out, and I wonder if Lars’s will come out Monday to distract from it. They milked Rob’s and James’ for weeks before releasing the full hour interview.

I don't really get the Chasing Light lyrics. What is the song about? The 'lean on me' part confuses me.

Recording from march 21- nov '22. what puzzles me is the long delay between record completion and record release. typically it's a 1-2 months wait from the completion of mastering to record release. Metallica sat on 72 Seasons for 3 1/2 months before releasing it. that's a bit unusual. it's still roughly a 3 year process from writing to release. that's been pretty much their status quo for the 21st century. That's why it's a 5+ year turnaround... 2 years on the road - 3 years of making a record. even longer if they get sidetracked doing movies and such. Don't expect another record before 2028 - more likely between '29-'30 - if there is another.

Metallica sat on 72 Seasons for 3 1/2 months before releasing it. that's a bit unusual. I'm guessing it had to do with the tour dates. They probably pushed the release and tour announcement as close to the first the show as possible, while also tying up loose ends. People were already bitching over buying tickets for 2024 at the end of 2022. Imagine if those sales happened Summer 2022. Outrage! 😂

Rob's voice sounds microwaved. I'm really curious what happened there. I'm guessing somebody who really doesn't know how to use autotune tried to use autotune while they were mixing the performance.
e: I just compared with the on stage live version and I think I understand what happened now. Man that part really isn't in Rob's range at all. It's not terrible but for a TV broadcast you'd definitely want to fix it up.
