His voice sounds normal and he's hitting notes just fine.

I had my Google mini nest play 72 today and it skipped SS... First time that happened 🤔

SS is a shit song so it's ok. Metallica has made shit songs before. That's not one of them.

The last third of Screaming Suicide is quite good I think. After the solo we have the breakdown with the spoken words, and then the final vocal lines changing it up with "Now that I'm exposed inside", ending with the harmonies... Really good stuff. It's also one of the few songs that doesn't drag on for too long. The song length feels just right.
It's in the bottom half of my rankings but I still see some good in it.

I don’t recall Hardwired splitting the waters so much on each track as 72 S does, it’s quite fascinating.
Personally SS is the second worst song on the record, only beaten by Chasing Light.

WTF are you talking about purple stuff? I thought it was really good.
Compare it to a few years ago and he made a a huge progress.

I don't really get the Chasing Light lyrics. What is the song about? The 'lean on me' part confuses me. One theory is it's about God..... I just got my vinyl and read through some of the liner notes. The most interesting tidbit is that they started recording March 2021, which tracks with Kirk saying they were still following Covid precedures when they tracked drums. But that implies the record was mostly written in under a year, assuming from Blackened 2020 in May 2020 til March 2021. I know those are really rough dates and they could've been writing more songs in between recording, but that feels like a very quick turnaround time for Metallica standards. Recording from march 21- nov '22. what puzzles me is the long delay between record completion and record release. typically it's a 1-2 months wait from the completion of mastering to record release. Metallica sat on 72 Seasons for 3 1/2 months before releasing it. that's a bit unusual. it's still roughly a 3 year process from writing to release. that's been pretty much their status quo for the 21st century. That's why it's a 5+ year turnaround... 2 years on the road - 3 years of making a record. even longer if they get sidetracked doing movies and such. Don't expect another record before 2028 - more likely between '29-'30 - if there is another. I think manufacturing might have also played a part. All those vinyl variants and tapes and what not. Plus gigs.

Weird seeing Kirk downpicking but not James.

I think all that Kirk talk of playing different solos in each city and that he doesn't even remember them is him just trolling. So far all the tv performances and now the show in Amsterdam, he pretty much nails the album solo on all the songs played so far.

Murder One has to be the most universally disliked song from all the Trujillo albums. How could they think that fit at all on that record.

Weird seeing Kirk downpicking but not James. I noticed when they played The End of the Line at the anniversary show that James doesn't downpick it anymore. I guess it's the first sign (performance-wise) of him getting older.

Damn never noticed that, that's one of my favorite performances of a song they've done in recent memory too. It still sounds tight so I'm not faulting it either, just yeah a definite sign of aging. James sounds better overall now than he did 20 years ago so he doesn't have much flack to catch either.

Weird seeing Kirk downpicking but not James. It looks completely wrong to my eyes, it actually kinda ruined the performance a bit for me. Not that I blame him, and he still kicks mucho arse. It kind of made me a little sad to be honest, this is the first time I’ve ever seen him skip a downpicked part. Dude’s human after all :(

This isn’t really a shot at Dan, it’s more at the band/management. Why the fuck are they having him do live album artwork? I’d honestly wondered if he was doing the t-shirt designs for this album, and I think that’s even more of a possibility now. Are they short on cash or something? They really seem to wear a lot of different hats over at HQ. And that’s fine. But maybe if no one is really strong at graphic design within the camp, you should outsource it? forums.metallica.com/t/amsterdam-april-27-29-2023/54863/4752?u=metman18

I actually like everything about this album's art and live derivatives of it way more than anything from the Hardwired era.

Yeah I don't believe me either, the yellow shirts stink. Yellow anything as wearables suck, but I like the album art and yellow elsewhere though.
But I hated the overused outline of the Hardwired "head" they used for all of the LiveMet releases. And the glitch font that was everywhere for 6 years.

The HW heads were bad too, there's so many talented artists out there aside from Spiderdan with his adobe photoshop.

I’m with you there. The HW shirts were bad too. I really do think the 72 Seasons single shirts were designed in-house. And I can’t fathom as to why. I also suspected that someone in-house designed this tour announcement for Hardwired.

I also suspected that someone in-house designed this tour announcement for Hardwired. Back in the DM days their graphics and shirts were generally good, but other stuff fell by the wayside and was done in house like the LiveMet mixes. I'm wondering if they just shifted their budget around to afford Fidelman's team mixing every LiveMet show, while absorbing some graphic design stuff in house.

I like the shirt designs but not the color. I'm also good with the live albums. I remember when Pearl Jam started selling every show on CD and they all just came in a generic brown cardboard sleeve with the dates on it. This is infinitely better than that.
