The only video I've watched so far is Lux Æterna. I'm not really sure if I need to see the other ones. What do you all think? From what I've been reading, they aren't really that great. :D

And the ones that aren’t terrible as just the same as Lux just with different effects in the background. |

Sleepwalk My Life Away didn't sound so bad today. As long as I don't try to take it too seriously, I can now enjoy it in the same way I enjoy Slither and Bad Seed etc. Has a badass groovy Reload thing going on. You Must Burn I've been liking a lot since release, but is it ever creeping up on my favourite list. I must have listened to it 4-5 times already today and it keeps getting better. Inamorata has also gained much more of my attention. My initial disgust with the first half is long ago history. Fucking love that shit now yepsure 😉 |

Anyone else find that James'delivery in the verses to Sleep Walk My Life Away are very Aerosmith Steve Tyler? Someone mentioned it on the other board and I can't stop hearing it now. 😂

I've come around on Shadows Follow, which leaves me with that, the four singles and the three last songs to listen to and frankly I'm good with that. Heard some of the others while driving today and they really didn't do anything to me. Reminds me of like Slither or Better Than You or Poor Twisted Me where I'd rather just skip them since they feel dull. Eight out of twelve ain't so bad, that's literally the same as HTSD ended up being for me, with even the one questionable radio single accounted for (Screaming Suicide vs. Now That We're Dead).

Not sure what I think: Inamorata the only skips for me are You Must burn! and Sleepwalk. 72 Seasons and Inamorata are just OK for me. I feel like for the length that they are they needed another hook. The first half of inamorata doesn't really do anything for me until the slow down. |

lol you literally cherry picked the best video lol.
"Here Come Revenge" is a pretty decent song, it's just uneven because the chorus is weak both musically and lyrically.
The Verses are amazing though. Het's lyrics are startling.

Anyway, Kirk Hammett was asked about no ballads on the new record in the new issue of Kerrang!
His response was "There's no ballads on the album because no ballads came up, bro."
a lot of the criticisms of metallica is "this part/song is forced" "this song is lazy" "this is a throw away track"
but it's really just the opposite. they're not forcing anything. they write and play what comes to them and release the music they like. that's how it's always been.
kirk also raves about James' lyrics on the new album saying that James is doing the world a service putting himself out there and talking about subjects that are so personal and almost taboo. He also disagrees that the lyrics are negative/dark and says most of the lyrics are about hope and overcoming.

While far from perfect, I think Sleepwalk is kind of underrated. The middle section riff and solo are boring but I dig the verse, pre-chorus ("Should I fall down") and chorus ("Wake me!"). It's pretty catchy to me. And the intro is fantastic.

Making Puppets, Justice, the Black Album, and 72 Seasons the only Metallica albums in which I thoroughly enjoy every song from start to finish. My expectations and predictions for this album were completely wrong. But again let’s wait and see post honeymoon phase. |

I genuinely remember many guys here complaining about the animated videos for HWTSD, including the one for Here Comes Revenge. The one for All Nightmare Long is also great! But I confess I do miss the more ambitious videos with the band, like the ones for Until it Sleeps, King Nothing, The Memory Remains and I Disappear. I guess this kind of video doesn't pay off nowadays, since nobody watches MTV anymore. |
