Alright. Now we have definitely better than DM and HW, and the worst out of all three, lol. I’m waiting for tomorrow until the best quality version comes out. Usually one of these extremes concede a bit, oh I like it better now after a few listens or I was too hyped and have to walk back my high ratings.

OK boys I'm out of the theatre and extremely glad I went. Really enjoyed the experience. Great sound, no dickheads. I think we have a really solid album here. Initial random brain dump/thoughts still filled with adrenaline:
Inamorata might just be a 10/10 song for me. I was hoping a song ala Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn, and dare I say after just one listen I think it's better than both. During this song I actually closed my eyes and went on an emotional fucking journey with this music. Fantastic flow, lyrics, vocal melodies, great riffs, best on album lead guitar work. An incredible middle bass section with really great vocals. I just can't wait to listen to this again. I didn't think they had another epic like this in them, boy was I wrong.
Shadows Follow was a really cool song. Probably one of their best riffs since Just A Bullet Away - it's like Wolf mixed with Sad and Bullet. Really liked it straight away.
You Must Burn! a slow and heavy Sad But True-esque song. Another type of song I was really hoping for and they delivered. Awesome riffs, awesome vocals.
They, along with Lux and 72S are my initial favourite songs.
The only song I immediately thought "meh", was Sleepwalk My Life Away. It's this albums ManUnKind, awesome intro, bad song. Maybe it'll grow on me.
Definitely lots of mid-tempo stuff, with some great riffs and guitar harmonies. Crown of Barbed Wire, Chasing Light, Too Far Gone, Room of Mirrors all have cool moments. Crown I'm 50/50 on, same with a lot of these ones. But to be honest I can't really remember which of these songs was which right now, there're all blending into one in my mind. They all their good moments. There's one with a kind of Irish vibe...as described by James, which I think was Chasing Light which I thought was pretty average until all these guitar harmonies kick in at the end.
Het's vocals are a true standout, we're talking Black, Load, Garage Disc 1 level of devliery. So fucking good.
Lot's of moments on this album reminded me of Load and 90s Metallica, CoC type riffs, AiC type vocal harmonies, lots of groove...with DM/HW arrangements and transitions.
Also I think If Darkness Had a Son is easily the best chorus on the album. I really like it.
I think when the dust settles, I get more listens in and the honeymoon phase wears off Inamorata, 72 Seasons, Shadows Follow, You Must Burn!, Lux Aeterna...maybe along with Screaming Suicide and Darkness Had A Son will be the long lasting songs here.

Where the videos all the same like the four singles? Many, not all. I would say 75% were the same band miming in front of Windows Media Player / Screen saver visualisations by the same guy that made the first four.
There was one, I think it was Room of Mirrors which was some weird abstract pixel art collage.
Inamorata was a dark-ish set of images. But I had my eyes closed through most of this song.
The rest were literally just Windows Media Player visualisations with no band miming. I think Chasing Light was literally black and white squares flashing...god help any epileptic fans watching.
Videos were honestly all terrible. I'll never watch any of them again. The band intros were really good, lots of great comments about the riffs/musical inspirations, etc...everything I wanted from those So What interviews.

How do you feel about the Halo on Fire structure? That's always struck me as one of their best structured songs, modern or otherwise, and I think a big reason why is because of introducing new and fresh parts still at the 5/6 minute mark, like Kimbo said 72S is lacking. That's a good reason as to why a lot of modern long Met songs sound more repetitive than older songs. Late to the party, but I gotta say - I really like the different parts of Halo, but they don't fit together at all. The moodier end part is a totally different song. There is zero point in having that as a part of the same song as the beginning. Break the parts into two songs and expand a bit - a much better result, if you ask me.

editwd down into one 4-5 hour long cinema experience? Or will it play as a 2 night deal in the theater as well? I can't imagine sitting in the movies for 4+ hours.

I thought of one more thing I want to say In Inamorata, there's a particular vocal section where Hetfield sings in a way we haven't heard since the album version of Nothing Else Matters. Fucking incredible song...I can't wait to hear it again, I hope I love it as much as I did the first time hearing it.
Hearing that song on the incredible cinema sound system, eyes closed, missus by my side, a couple of beers in the belly, is going to be THE memory I carry with me from attending this listening party screening and hearing this album for the first time.

Or stick this [ spoiler ] before and after your text but with the brackets touching the word spoiler in mobile mode.

I've been waiting for that but it never comes so it was extra special to actually hear that section. I really wish they would strip their music way back and have more melodic clean sections because they sound so good.
Overall I'm very happy with the album. Inamorata is probably the best song on the album but my favourite song is definitely you must burn! That song alone makes me greatful for this album and was really what I wanted out of new music. Everything else sounds done and done and done.... ok that part was cool too. The album has its moments and I probably like it more than the last 2 albums.
And what do you mean the film clips were no good? Chasing lights film clip was a fucking masterpiece of epic proportions!

I'm not sure what it was like for others but in the cinema I was at the guitars were WAY up in the mix and the drums and to a lesser extent vocals we're very quiet. I'm not sure if it was because I was sitting at the back at the top but it made the experience awesome because I could focus on the riffage.

When I play videos on my TV, the vocals and drums usually sound more distant than my other setups. Think it's the surround sound or something. When I play with the settings I can match it up to more traditional left right sound.

Well, my main board account got a temporary nuke, so I'll come hang with you guys. Still processing it obviously, but thus far my favorite track is definitely Shadows, followed by TFG. No spoilers, as I don't want to ruin anyone's experience (and I don't know how to use the tags here yet lol). Overall, I think this may become my top album from them this century, and I never thought I'd say that after Lux and SS. What happened? Were you banned? Welcome here!

Just came back from the screening. I have some pretty mixed feelings. It might grow on me when I listen to it with headphones but I find that this album is mostly style over substance. The production and vocals are amazing, so were most of the music videos. But the song writing ended up being really weak. It just barely managed to reach the highs of Hardwired and Death Magnetic. My favorite songs were You Must Burn, Room of Mirrors, Too Far Gone and Inamorata. The rest were just kind of samey.

There was a thread over there discussing when the album was going to leak, and I was actually one of the 1st people to find it out there as the songs started trickling out. I was giving my detailed first impressions on the songs and the album as I heard things. I guess the moderation team felt we went a little hard on the discussions of the leakage, and some people were even dropping very heavy hints openly in the thread about where it could be found. I didn't on the board, but I did send some people some DMs pointing them in the direction, I'm assuming that's why I was one of the ones who got popped. So, the thread got nuked, and me and I'm assuming several others got a temporary suspension until the 24th. Sucks, but understandable. I've had an account lurking here for the last year or two, just rarely posted.

There are only few hours left. One thing that scares me is the cinema mixing. I went to S&M2 and the mix was so bad. You couldn’t hear half of the sound due to all clipping and distortion. I hope it is not the case this time.

I hope it is not the case this time. The S&M2 theater show wasn't well executed. Greg Fidelman did an interview saying they had to mix and edit the whole thing for theaters in 9 days before remixing and re-editing the whole thing for the proper release. My theater experience was the same for that one, pretty sloppy mixing.

I think I listen to Metallica a little differently than other bands because I'm paying so much attention to what each individual member is doing on top of the song itself, so my attention always feels scattered. I listened to the l33k twice and was bored as hell by one song on the first listen, then it clicked for round two.

Better sound experience is the only reason I decided to go to the cinema. I am too tired becauae of a hangover and heavy work day. I hope this won't get in the way to properly experience the first listening of the album.
Since there isn't much slowing down on the album, I kinda fear that today may not be the best to experience this but we ll see.
