They should have played Last Caress and So What like they did on MTV in '96.

They do not have the "Fuck it" attitude they had at their peak. They're no longer in that position when rock/metal is sharply declining and they're fighting for attention with numerous other artists.

I assume everyone has seen that all the writing credits on the album have been posted. if not here it is...
Kirk and Rob get 4 songs each. Pretty impressive after HW was basically the Hetfield and Ulrich show
72 Seasons (Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammett) Shadows Follow (Hetfield/Ulrich/Trujillo) Screaming Suicide (Hetfield/Ulrich/Trujillo) Sleepwalk My Life Away (Hetfield/Ulrich/Trujillo) You Must Burn! (Hetfield/Ulrich/Trujillo) Lux Aeterna (Hetfield/Ulrich) Crown of Barbed Wire (Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammett) Chasing Light (Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammett) If Darkness Had a Son (Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammett) Too Far Gone? (Hetfield/Ulrich) Room For Mirrors (Hetfield/Ulrich) Inamorata (Hetfield/Ulrich)

I’ve always wondered how writing credits are divided.

I’ve always wondered how writing credits are divided. in metallica you get credits if you contribute Lyrics Riffs Structure (this is where Lars gets all his credits) guitar solos aren't part of the integral structure of the song... they are essentially color and layers. As Jason Newsted said when he was asked why he didnt get a credit for Until it Sleeps he responded "because the until sleeps bassline came with the until it sleeps song."

Kirk usually contributes those eastern sounding riffs; Roam, brokenbeatscarred, Darkness judging from Trujillo's credits from ManUnkind and Screaming Suicide his stuff seems to be groove-based and bouncier with funkier rhythms

I love Jason and My Friend of Misery's original tune but I don't think he's a creative person tbh. Load/Reload basslines were created by James and post-Metallica albums weren't great at all.

That's an interesting quote cos Sleeps was one of the few (the only?) track that the band wrote in the studio during the Load sessions. Hence the lack of "Dungeon" demo. I wonder who came up with that bassline then.

I happened to hear a snippet and I gotta say, I like what I heard. It sounded a lot different to the first singles and imo not like anything from the last 2 albums which to me sounded similar.
I am hype

I dont get the hype of leaks. When my favourite band is releasing an album of new music I dont want dodgy files or to hear it thru PC speakers, I am very happy to wait for it as a high quality experience. ? It's not 2002 anymore... What year it is makes no difference to that choice or preference. When something leaks in 2023 what sort of quality is it? Other than having no physical product to ponder while you listen it should be the same as at least the mp3s they will release so maybe its just down to impatience and a touch of me first.

I actually prefer the country version (with farmyard noises) to the original Lux Aeterna. Sounds chilled.

Why aren't solos considered part of the writing process? Because nowadays Kirk doesn't "write" solos. He just vomit random pentatonic licks ad nauseum and then give them all to Lars and Greg to rearrange and stich it all together in a Pro Tools time-line. No one should be given credit for this kind of shit.

No one should be given credit for this kind of shit. I tend to agree. Lux is especially horrific. I just read that interview again where he says that modal playing doesn’t suit Metallica. And that it’s much more difficult to incorporate pentatonic licks. I mean, what the fuck. Those bluesy licks does NOT fit a heavy song with dark lyrics.
