Atlas Rise fans
Shadows Follow
Furious, likely to inspire millions of banging heads, serrated-knife riff, super rhythmic, wolf imagery, one of the heaviest songs on 72S, a distinctly old-school vibe, frenetic thrash of Metallica’s early days, drums have a marching Rammstein-esque stride, lengthy intro, a typical modern METALLICA track of the ‘Atlas, Rise!’ brand which despite its complex structure and many breaks comes across as quite catchy, bursts like a machine gun: bursts of bass and drums punctuated by shots of guitar, they approach the track with maturity: they seek the speed and rawness of their early year, offers up an almost darker thematic echo of the classic track “Wherever I May Roam”, solo speak of AC/DC influences, there is an echo of Battery before the solo

A review is saying You Must Burn! is reminiscent to Dream No More. I'm getting more and more hyped as we get closer and closer.

And I feel that we're a band… I mean, I wish we would do it more often and not have to wait so long, but we're a band that has a lot of ideas, a lot of riffs, a lot of music. And if you're looking at Kirk's [Hammett] allotment of riffs, it's like hundreds. Or mine or James [Hetfield, Metallica]… You can only do so much. So we actually don't have enough albums for all the ideas we have." Rob concluded:
"So I would imagine, yeah, we're gonna keep making new music. And if you listen to the new album ['72 Seasons'], I think it's the best one — definitely the best one that I've done, since I've been in the band.
So, there's no shortage of new music for the future. It's just having the time to do it. That's a whole another story."

The thing when hearing stuff like that though, how come they approve subpar riffs then. I mean how can they have hundreds of riffs to chose from and yet we see stuff like Murder One, Revenge and Manunkind. That’s quite baffling.
Also I’m beginning to suspect that Kirk these days are writing the more interesting riffs between him and James.

"We have a ton of amazing ideas you're never going to hear." In that video interview with Rob i posted, he says they didn't even bother listening to his riff tapes for 72S.

The two most interesting things to me from the interview:
1. James actively wanting Kirk and Rob to contribute more. (You love to see it.) 2. James wanting the album to be titled Lux Æterna but was out-voted. (72 Seasons is a pretty intriguing title if you ask me so I can see why they went for it.)

Metallica would be shooting themselves in the foot if they included a character in the album title that isn't on our keyboard. Glad to see that changed. Also super floored to see James echo the sentiment that it was a more collaborative album. Despite the dark lyrics, I'm getting the impression this process was the most fun they've ever had making a record.

I like the part describing Lars trapped in SF during lockdown. I'm really looking forward to hear about that from his perspective. He's such a social, on the scene personality. I am very interested to hear that story. James and Rob chilling out in the mountains while poor little Lars is pacing back and forth in house freaking out. I'm surprised they didn't smuggle him out of SF.

The cynical and unfair side of me really am sceptical of trying to make it a collaborative effort. They have tried it before with with latter 2000 albums - and it has not worked to greater extent. Give me written by Hetfield & Ulrich any day of the week.

They are ALL so cringe, nowadays. I don't even know what happened to James, once the "mighty" Hetfield.
I wanna listen to the album really bad (decent singles), but i'll pass on the live shows.
It's just... not the same anymore.

Though I’m not completely sold on the idea behind it. I’m gonna have a hard time lumping in all these lyrics into the life of a teenager. Seems a little immature in some way, even if I still kinda understand the concept. Good interview, you can literally feel Stefan walking on eggshells with James. I wish they would go much deeper in, like into small details of each song.

I’m thinking Lars is gonna dive the deepest with individual songs. He opens right up no matter what the interviewer prompts him to do, they must be saving him for last once the album is out. Honestly though I’m surprised Kirk didn’t come before James.

It's just... not the same anymore. Yeah it’s so weird that he got older and actually matured. What a cunt You called him a cunt, not me. I met him briefly in '07, seems like a perfectly fine person. But the cringe started in '03, with SKOM and the awful ST. Anger. They weren't 60, then. Not even 40 (except for Kirk). I'm probably way older than you, as i started consciously listening to them in 1991 (missed the 93 show in Lisbon, because i was 12, but aware of it) and i've known OF them since the late 80's. So, of course i have a bias towards that era and i'm always secretly hoping for another killer release before their retirement. That's why i am (unlike you and others) very hyped about the singles and the album. As for their posts about marching band competitions and Jimmy Fallon's appearances with kids instruments... I can't. I just can't deal with that unnecessary/cringey crap. That's why i don't wanna watch a 72 Seasons making of. I don't care about any of that. I like some sense of mystery, some magic, whatever you wanna call it. Sue me.

To me cringe is when adults who should have matured still strut around with a chip on their shoulder like a hormonal teenager with something to prove.

The review from Classic Rock says there are no ballads on the album, but gave it 8/10.
"intense album, one that goes hard for virtually every second of its 77-minute running time."

"I'm grumpy and hate this band now, but I'm more excited for this album than any of YOU." Was that for me? Lol. I still love their music and defend them a lot from undeserved criticism. Most people here seem to "hate" the new singles and (potentially) the new album and are always suggesting that Metallica should change EVERYTHING about their sound in order for them to be happy: "It's stock; Songs are too long; Kirk's solos suck; Lars is boring; Pro-Tools; No ballads; Drums are too loud; Song structures suck...". Sounds familiar? I'm actually excited for the album and i'm the hater because i think they've been exposing themselves too much since ST. Anger? Okay.
