I really like 72 Seasons…it could be my favourite of the four. Which is surprising because I thought it would be another Hardwired from that initial preview clip. Thank fuck it wasn’t.
Also now we have four songs I appreciate them all a lot more in the context of each other. I’m loving listening to all four in a row. I think this contest will only fill out more after the rest of the songs in sequence are heard.
At this point I comfortably rank all 4 songs ahead of everything on Hardwired except Moth/Dream/Halo.

So who's going to properly screenshot the lyrics in hd somewhere and zoom it in and translate?

Might just get the MP3 album this time, and skip buying the CD like i usually do.

I don't even have anything to really play a cd on anymore. I'll have to pick one up just to add to the collection. Last cd I got was Hardwired and I used it once on my computer to turn into mp3s.

There are reviews out there now that may confirm/deny your suspicions/hopes of the types of songs we’re going to get on this album.

"They can do delicacy and elegance, and 72 Seasons desperately needs more dynamics to match James’s light and shade. It’s halfway through the epic, 11-minute closing track, Inamorata – the album’s high point – before we get a clean guitar, alongside a bluesy break and some beautiful harmonies from Hetfield to close out, and Metallica sound all the more fantastic for it. This deep into a career, it’s hard to imagine many bands making their finest material. That Metallica have still found something new to say (if not play) deserves respect. They may not have delivered their very best, but they’ve given us the best we realistically could have hoped for." www.loudersound.com/reviews/metallica-72-seasons-review

That's why the acoustic cover EP will release for Christmas, to balance things out. 🎅🏻
What a shit review LOL. Oh well. 72 is awesome. I hated it at first, now love it. I can imagine being given a sneak peek of the album to only listen once to and take notes quickly for a review and I'd be pretty snarky about it. Days later my opinions can change drastically after multiple listens. At least going into this one I know now what to expect more or less. Some cool new rocking Metallica songs, probably some epic parts here and there, some cool grooves, some sort of Outlaw Torn jammy thing at the end. Anything that hits 10/10 is more than welcome, but I'll be happy if the rest is on par with these 4, which is great.

I think we’re in for a treat as to how well this plays as a full album.

I think we’re in for a treat as to how well this plays as a full album. Agreed. Listening to all 4 together really gives a great little verity package. And the way these 4 are spaced throughout the album I hoping the glue inbetween really takes hold of you.

I'm not worried about Papa Het not delivering, it's the constant snare rolls that I'm fretting about.

I don't get the "too long" feeling from the title track, and it's the second longest track. That bodes well for major structural annoyances. That is the first thing I noticed as well. Good. Well, on the other hand suicide silence also got some criticism about the transitions but 72 seasons is definately better for me. So all is hood so far. And i am absolutely in for a bleeding me/ fixxer type moody epic

Lux is pretty cool, gets me pumped up every time. I'm not a fan of the happier sounding stuff, but I'll take a happy cohesive song over a riff salad doom and gloom tune in an instant. We still have 8 songs to explore in 2 weeks. Chances are (please God 🙏) at least one of those will meet expectations. Agree. Lux is my least favourite style music wise, but when I hear it just feels a lot better. Because it flows better. There’s almost nothing that could be removed to improve it. If they had taken this approach with Darkness and seasons, omg, could have been EPIC. And it’s weird because I know that James prefers the shorter songs, he must not have much power left in the band towards Lars. I will be pissed if they haven’t cooked up some Dream No More type of song, they all seem to love that heavy stuff. Those kind of heavy and slow burning sons has always been their strong suit. They do it very confidently and very good.

Heard 72 seasons for the first time since Saturday, I must admit it was better than I thought the last time.
I don’t know what it is, when I hear a Metallica song the first few times I can totally get upset over so much stupid shit. But then I just kinda get used to it/accept it and then somehow it doesn’t bother me as much anymore. But this is a weird thought process because I still think those parts are utter shite, but I can enjoy them anyways after some time. I guess that’s the power of having a favourite band which have meant so much to you, maybe you cut them some slack, maybe you are just happy they are still around. Either way if you don’t overthink it then I guess it’s just cool to be able to enjoy it more.
I still kinda think that in some way I’m undermining my own analytical skills by just accepting something that I know is not good enough, and I would for sure not give other bands the same liberty in lazy arrangements.
But fuck it, i’d rather be hyped and positive instead of an old sour fart which pulls his hair out because of Lara’s misuse of hi-hat.
These songs all rock in their own way, ESPECIALLY if you listen to them in a row. Lux have never sounded better to my ears than today when finishing all 4 songs.
T:l:d:r
Love the new songs and cheers from Germany, I’m being treated with loads of great Weissbeer

Yeah, parts I thought were garbage and killed the flow now actually get me excited. Even the "too long" parts feel right now and build up the songs 🤣 there must be some subliminal messages in there or something. And in 72, after the solo when it drops back to the original key, at first really pissed me off, now I love it, it like brings you back down to reality or something.
These songs are definitely rollercoasters. I will try not to hate the album on first listen because I know I will end up falling in love with it days later.

The way James modulates the beginning/ending of vocal melodies in that song to transition a couple different times is so smart and flows super naturally. It's a really cool song.

James also sounds fucking brutal on the last 2 singles. Lux was the usual live performance just beyond his high range kind of thing but works, SS he sounds very raspy and desperate in a Lemmy kind of St Anger way, both work for those songs, but holy smokes on the last 2 it sounds like 91, Killing Time, or something.

His vocals are AMAZING… I’m really blown away by his performance so far, and weirdly his vocals -> the riffs by a mile. I haven’t felt that way since Load

Yes, there's something different, compared to HTSD, in the way James' vocals are recorded.

T:l:d:r Love the new songs and cheers from Germany, I’m being treated with loads of great Weissbeer I think the flip side of this too is that because it's Metallica, we're super analytical and nitpicky with everything new. We're hyper sensitive to their various traits and pick up on them straight away, snare sounds, high hat volume, bad transitions, shit solos etc...it's all we hear on the first listen. After listen #5, 10, 15, etc.. we're just hearing the song as a whole and start to enjoy it. I honestly think part of the problem is us, not Metallica. Not saying the new songs are all Master of Puppets quality or anything, but we are just a bunch of sour old farts that hone in on the negatives at first, declare our dislike of these songs, then come back a week later sheepishly and say "hey guys turns I actually love this fucking song".
