This is my favourite of the singles thus far. But I agree. It could have been shorter and more concise. About 30 40 seconds as far as I'm concerned.
I didn't like the STARING INTO BLACK LIGHT CHOKING ON THE STAGE FRIGHT" bit. T
The riffs in this part are generic and to me this part sounds like one of those poor transitions they do lately.
Fast riffs and the main riff are great. I don't have any problems with the hi-hat issue.
72S > Darkness > Lux > SS for now.

It's more than ever evident that they are piercing parts together instead of writing a coherent song from start to finish. It's basically a puzzle where the pieces doesn't really fit but are forced together, mostly with rough and strange transitions That's the consequence of having zillions of okay riffs and later being in the studio trying to fit riff #120 after riff #53.

Another Kirk writing credit too. With 4 confirmed Rob credits, at least half the album isn't just a James/Lars production.
Also Kirk's solo is the best he's done out of the bunch?

I thought song lengths were shiwn way back when we first saw titles. Dreaming? I'm sure they were fake. Ever since Lux came out, there's been speculation as to the running time on the boards. Speaking or memory, were SS and Darkness announced (did they have a release date), or did they drop out of nowehere? I do remember Darkness had 4 little clips of the four members, one after the other to showcase the intro. But did they have a date like 72 Seasons? All's happening so fast I csn't seem to recall those details... Lol. Lux was a total surprise, SS was a total surprise but the website leaked that it was coming out that day. Darkness was a surprise if you didn't follow the videos they put out on TikTok, but if you knew about it you knew. 72 Seasons is the only one they actually gave a release date to.

I feel good about this one. As usual I'll give it some time before saying anything definitive, but I actually thought Kirk's solo was quite good here. And it leading directly into a dual harmony was awesome. Probably the closest I've felt to the Metallica I love on this album. I'm noticing a few sections I'd consider unnecessary but whatever. Pretty rocking song.
Also happy to see more Kirk writing credit.

For the first time in forever, the solo section of a Metallica song is the standout. Nothing in the song is bad but nothing does anything special for me that other songs don't already do. Except that solo and harmony section, which I'm thinking is all Kirk's doing based on the writing credit and style.
Intro is also the first time since Cliff that a Metallica song has had double tracked bass parts, if I recall correctly.

After hearing it, it felt like being edged by a very attractive woman, then when it came to the best part, she denied me. That's what it felt when they changed the riff at 5 min. It should've been more sludgy and slower. That would've been badass. The riffs are good, songwriting is fine, the arrangement is what I have a issue with so far. It feels so cookie cutter. Good thing at least to me, it didn't feel like a long 8 minutes.

Definitely the best of the bunch so far, still a lot to be desired.
The solo into the harmony was cool, probably the highlight of the song.

I'm noticing these songs are forming a little bit more of their own identity as more get released. I'm really curious how differentiated to Hardwired the full thing is going to feel, but I'm feeling a little better about that aspect now.

Not gonna read that, will spoil everything
What are people’s reaction to the intro ? I feel like it’s completely unnecessary and random.
Again this has a lot of potential but it’s way too long and disjointed. It’s insane to think that it’s 8 min long, so 1 min midsection and then 7 min intro, verse and chorus…. Waaaaay too long.
Het’s voice is amazing though.

That Review really tried to sugar coat shit. LoL. Get ready for St Anger with better sound.
72 IS THE OPENING TRACK OF THE ALBUM! That says it all. Clunky, lack of editing, and no real direction. Confused even.
Lux may not be the "Smartest" song, but it does what it is supposed to do. In and out with a kick to the nuts and it's done.
Calling Crown of Barbwire a speed up Sad Bit True...hello?, remember the problem with the Sad but true demo? It was to uppity and needed to slow down and find it's pocket.
And the jamming aspect of Inamorata now has me worried. It's going to be 11 minutes of bland wanking around with James telling us how much he loves the Metallica family or some nonsense towards the end.
I hope I'm dead wrong. But WTF. 72 is the opener and the mother fuckin title track 😥

Last paragraph of the review hit me hard It's a fair one though. I expect so much from this band, but to put out what seems to be a solid album during their 42nd year as a band is impressive as hell. I'd love for them to challenge themselves more, but in an age of the older musicians hiring giant teams to co-write and produce their albums alongside the band, it's actually sort of cool to see Metallica still take the "dudes in a room" approach. I think that's why they're sticking with Greg and the small crew they've landed on.

Snippets for these songs might not be the way to go. I'm feeling negative about the new one because of how samey it sounds to some HTSD songs, but I already forgot that I prefer Screaming Suicide over Atlas lmao After listening to the 3 singles a bunch I don't think I have any qualms about the structure. For the album I'm predicting stronger lyrics and tighter structures than we saw with Hardwired, but at the expense of more simplistic playing and some recycled sounding parts. Hoping for a "Hardwired walked so 72 Seasons could run" sort of situation, but if the new single doesn't feel as standout-ish as Moth Into Flame was, I won't feel as confident.
