Since I think Hardwired sucks as a song I'm guessing I'll hate this song you guys are talking about too.

I like it. Gotta say Im a bit more pumped about this album after reading that Rob intrview It sounds like a hybrid between Hardwired and That Was Just Your Life. Not great. I love both of those songs. Both are great intros for the albums.

I think these vocals are gonna do it for me. Love that entrance.

This will be the Moth into Flame of the album. That's what I'm feeling. After that verse part it will kick back into the fast part and take off.

Kinda where I'm at. Most hyped for anything mid-tempo that it sounds like we're getting from that Rob interview.
Comparing these boards to the official forums is super funny though. The loud majority of Metallica fans are YEAH THRASH YEAH which I'm sure has to influence what the band wants to work on at least a little bit.
The genre of the songs isn't the problem; it's that they're a bit generic and predictable and being rated higher than they actually should for the sole fact that it's Metallica. Remove James from the vocals, and publish the songs online not as a completely new band but as Exodus, Anthrax, or Megadeth, and you'll notice a number of the approbators have tuned to castigators. I kinda agree but has it not always been the case? In their discography, there are many tunes that could be easily overlooked had they not been released by Metallica and sung by James. The opposite is also true. There are many great metal songs were released (similar in style to Metallica) that are easily overlooked by the public.

Agreed, part of Metallica’s charm is that it’s these guys playing the music. I was listening to Bleeding Me last night and realized how simple and, on paper, boring it is based on the layering and the parts themselves. But you get James Hetfield playing that riff that kicks in the second half of the song and it’s utter perfection.

Hmm... Not sure.... Need the full song... NOW
But I'd rather wait for the release day tbh

Though these chuggy riffs in Darkness and this new song feels somewhat generic, I much prefer them to the NWOHBM riffs in the previous songs.

Some dude on Reddit said the length of the title track is 8:39 based on a site that decodes the premiere URL.

Yeah I don't mind that either... I hope it's some kind of Justice'y journey. If's 8 min of bad transitions and shitty riffs repeated 100 times, well then fuck me

An 8-minute song has to go places for me to really enjoy it. If there's a whole melodic section in the middle then it'll be good. If it's an excuse to have an extended Kirk Hammett solo then that's a turn-off. So we'll see what happens.

That said I really like Judas, it’s just too plodding and way too long.

Judas could've been so much tighter with less soloing, maybe throw in a James solo just for variety purposes. Either way that chorus is one of the best on DM.

My current hope is that the song has an intro that doesn't involve snare rolls.
Something like Battery or That Was Just Your Life that builds up to the song would be nice.

I miss these so much, they’ve always made stellar intros. Nowadays it’s just snarewank and you just know it will be the same in this case.

I think these vocals are gonna do it for me. Love that entrance. Agree, the vocals and the vocal melodies are the highlights of the songs released so far, same with this clip. But already we have a shitty transition in this song with "lets hit the snare and a couple of harmonics to join up the next riff"...as I mentioned in my previous posts before this full clip was even released, well I used "pick scratches" instead of harmonics but basically the same thing, Arrggh.

Not so sure about that. One of the mods, I think, lol'd at someone bringing that up. It wouldn't make any sense to have an 8-minute opener. James mentioned they once again wrote a long song when he refered to the title track in an ad for a radio station, though. 5 minutes perhaps?

Size doesn't matter , right? Guys? Naaaaaa. Look at Napalm Death's beautiful 3-second song, it's .. marvelous. . . . . . . . . . . Ironically, it's called "You Suffer."

Some of us wrote that we don't feel as much excitement as we should. I was one of them. This has changed in the last few days for me.
I have listened to their albums in the last few days. At the same time, the teaser for the new song was released. That teaser is the most promising one, I admit. So I am getting more hyped everyday.
