And if they knowingly made these videos to be presented on the big screen, even if for only a day, I hope they deliver a bit more quality then the HWTSD run. Imagine watching some of those, for the first time, with a hundred other dudes, and no alcohol or smokes to numb the pain.

This one was more of a grower, Lux was a shower. I'm appreciating the little things about it now. It still sounds like it's Atlas's sibling to me with a little bit of Load-era energy, but that's not a bad thing. I'm interested to find out what Rob's writing credit was for.

I love it now, I wish it had a beautiful harmony part like Atlas though.
The Atlas sounding riff that repeats, towards the middle it becomes simplified, to me it sounds like a car driving really fast on a twisty road at night with cliffs on both sides. Like, I can just close my eyes, hit the gas pedal, and be done with it all, or keep my eyes open and live another day. That's the imagery going through my head while listening.

Just noticed that track #8 called Chasing Light. Kind of a weird choice since the lyrics of Lux Aeterna roughly mean the same thing. Maybe thats gonna be the next single? Probably. It has a catchy, radio friendly ring to it. Can't see them going with Screaming Suicide as a promo, unless it's all emo and has a help line number at the end of the video or something. Lol. |

Lux Aeterna has gotten better with age. Not one part of it feels forced (I guess besides Kirk forcing himself to play certain notes in his solo). Structurally it's tight, powerful, and doesn't sound overthought out, and the performance feels fresh and live + a couple extra layers of guitars and backing vocals in spots.

I only wish the solo went directly into the last verse. I think the current transition takes some energy away from the song. But yeah, minor issue, it's well-constructed overall. |

Lux aeterna is decent but not earth shattering. I agree it's gotten better after many listens but it doesn't stand out to me like Atlas Rise, Halo on Fire, Spit Out the Bone, All Nightmare Long...from the last 2 albums.
I know they will give us something special on this album because they always do. That's how freakin' good this band is.
Just like everyone else, can't wait to hear it!
-Side note- I love going back and watching the 'Making of' videos, it's just so weird how Kirk is usually only around with everyone else during recording when he has to record solos. Feels like they're cheating on him...

The 4 songs I mentioned stand out to me as very unique, they set themselves apart from the others. Going back further, Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn stand out to me on Load. Just very unique, epic songs. That's my taste. Everyone has different tastes.
