Yes it does sound live.
When would this album have been written? Before COVID, they were doing the S&M 2, then it was drive ins and AWMH charity stuff and so on. I don't know, feels like this album was written quickly to promote a tour, rather than a tour to promote an album.

The video is pretty good. Just them playing the song.

On another note, how's the new shirts they just released... I don't think they'll be selling a whole lot of those... I do really like that doorway design though it's very cool.
And has anyone read the lyrics to SS yet?
They're actually pretty damn good imo.

I like the 4 minute mark drumming, getting Judas Kiss breakdown feels from that part.

With a bit of cutting, this could have been a cool little song, but nope, let's cram it all in there, even when it doesn't make sense.

Lars said on Stern they started planning it together over Zoom during quarantine and presumably started writing in person around Fall 2020 when they were back at HQ.

I just hope we get some variety, I don't want an album full of late 70s/early 80s sounding songs in the key of A with Death Magnetic/Hardwired sounding stitched together transitions. Lux ticked the NWOBHM box, I hope they also give us some Outlaw Torns, some Sad But Trues, etc... I'm feeling like we're gonna get surprised with a long track. If you average the rest of the songs' lengths ("over 77 minutes" minus 9 for the two released) you get an average of about 6:50 a song. Unless they're gonna consistently be all 6-7 minutes long, I'm feeling a longer one. The longest on HTSD was Halo at 8:15. This recording feels kind of live, does anyone else agree? I know they recorded Dream and NTWD "live" (James, Rob, and Lars instrumentally). Greg's voice at the end could be a subtle little nod to that too. When I think about long songs, I immediately think some badly stitched together unnecessary long mess. But I would never have thought Halo was the longest track on HWTSD until you mentioned it, Halo is the opposite of what I said above so maybe I should be more optimistic. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a live off the floor recording with all those snare fills Lars is doing.

Since SS is track 3, and a bit "fluffy" I'm hoping the first 2 songs beat the shit out of us.

It's growing on me too, love the vocals. The verse vocal melody sounds exactly like Motorhead, the spoken word part reminds me of Thriller haha

First impressions:
1. Overall way better than Lux 2. Vocals are really good 3. Solo isn't terrible
Didn't grip me at once like Lux did but I hated that song on subsequent listens so maybe this will grow on me.

I'm really not into these videos...both of them so far are just them miming (in a way over the top way) to the song with random effects all over the screen. Nothing to do with the song lyrics or theme.

Cool hard rocking song.
Funny this has a Rob writing credit. The more i listen to it, the more it sounds like a mix of Metallica and Suicidal Tendencies, from "The Art Of Rebellion" era.

It's OK, not bad, very commercial sounding like Lux.

New single is decent at best tbh... The riffs so far are killer, if they follow the same album formula, then I cannot imagine what the album closer is going to sound like. I'm digging the NWOBHM style stuff although that solo that Kirk plays is eerily similar to the solo in Speed King by Deep Purple. I know some guitar snobs will get on him for that.

Really digging it. Its about to be launched at volume in the lounge. The daughter is over for a visit, its my duty to spread the word....gotta keep the fam updated.

I am too lazy to write a new comment so I'll just post the message I posted for the other forum.
I have mixed opions about this one. There are very cool parts and the lyrics are overall pretty good. “listen well…” riff is pretty cool. It’s a Metallica song, you won’t make any mistake guessing it. I guess that’s the good part. Feels like a Garage Inc / Reload era song but with Death Magnetic production and some Atlas, Rise & Moth into Flame melodies thrown in.
I didn’t like the “My name is suicide” bit. And I didn’t like the melodies ending the song (that is the Moth into Flame bit that I didn’t like).
The first solo is rather underwhelming but the underlining riff to the solo and those parts are pretty straightforward good old Metallica. Second solo starts off fun, very melodic.
I would give this one a 6-7/10. Nothing jaw dropping or surprising here. We'll see if I like it more or less in time.
I LOVE the fact that they draw attention to suicide and depression.

Good pick on the Speed King comparison FightFireWithStAnger, can hear that too. Not a bad thing, loved when Kirk went all Blackmore during Kill the King cover. jorn Agree its a 7-ish out of 10 for me on release day. Good post, but next time post here first then cut/paste back there, we luv you more ya know ;)

Just listened to it for the first time, so these are super early impressions that may change over time.
I don't immediately love it like I did Lux Æterna. The main riff is fine, the chorus is kind of whatever and not super catchy. The lyrics are very familiar, almost too much so. We're doing suicide/cyanide again? After how refreshing and original the concept of "72 Seasons" was, it's a bit sad to hear them retreading old grounds to this degree.
The video is good. I prefer these style of videos. Just show me the band playing and add some cool effects to it. All I need.
The song overall kind of gives me vibes of Hardwired disc 2, which was mostly filled with songs I rarely go back to. I hope the song grows on me and that I look back on this post in disgust.

When I first listened to Lux Æterna, I immediately needed to listen to it again. And again. And again. With Screaming Suicide, I listened to it once, and I've already forgotten about it. I have no desire to ever hear it again. I'm going to, don't get me wrong... But it just didn't hook me. At all.

It's just very forgettable. At least Lux Aeterna was stuck in my head for the next week. I can't recall anything five minutes after I listen to it.
