I'm having a bad day...I needed some aggressive but weird music and Lulu came for help.
It just feels like exactly what I needed. Weird, at times beautiful, dark, aggressive but also dirty and ugly. Guity pleasure for me perhaps but Metallica did their part as good as possible.

Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3
I love concept albums. C&C is a good band but their music never gets my attention beyond the few songs that I think are awesome. I love the fact that they try to create a lot more than regular albums with their story. I just don't get into their sound much. This album is supposed to be one of the best works they have done. It's like Volbeat. I like half of their songs but then the other half is not my cup of tea.
Baroness - Gold&Grey
Initially I did not get into this album. But I have a new found love now. Particularly 'Seasons' is a phenomenal song.

I listened to the English version a few times but have not completed the Swedish version yet. People say Swedish version sounds more natural. I am thinking about buying that version as well but due to ridiculous exchange rates, I kinda force myself to stop every time I decide to order. Ordering these new releases online has become really difficult. Tool's new album reached to more than a 100£ on amazon uk. It was already pricy due to the screen they included but it is just insane. Back to Opeth...what is your favourite song on the new album? First listen was last night and I chose to listen to the Swedush version first as it was marked as Disc 1 (which might confirm a comment I read stating the Swedish version is the "truer" version ). Was a lot to take in, moreso with a foreign language!, but I get the feeling this is gonna be a favourite. Favourite track after only one play through , would be Track 8 "Banemannen". Album has many lighter moments with some very nice sounding guitars, I'll be listening again today and expect to become more familiar with the songs when in English I paid a little more than what I would normally be happy with but the 2 Disc version seemed to be unavailable in most of my usual places I shop, so ordered it and paid express to get it here before the weekend. I'm still yet to buy their recent live set because the price remains high. I'm not familiar with the Swedish language at all, but I'll keep to that version, for some reason Mike's performance is way better. Those clumsy vocal lines in the ending of track 3 are too heavy-handed in the English version, most of track 4 it's really noticeable too. As for the music itself, what a performance by the band. Sumptuous filling of the musical space, the last three albums are very skin-and-bones by comparison and it really hurts them. Or maybe the songs here are just much, much better. (I don't like Heritage and Pale Communion at all)

Heritage remains to be my favourite from the new Opeth. But the last album needs a lot more listens to fully digest what is going on. It's a great album.

And I really like Pale Communion.
I've not fully absorbed the new one yet....and have stuck to the English version for no other reason other than thats what is in the car.
Up until an hour ago I thought I was seeing Opeth this Thursday. I got dates mixed up - Elton John on Thursday, Opeth next Tues. Gives me a few more days of spinning the new songs before the show.

The Aristocrats - You Know What?
Brilliant album, as expected. This album features some of the heavier riffs they have ever done. I particularly get some Maiden and Megadeth vibes on two songs. Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde for Maiden and Burial at Sea for Megadeth. But probably that's just me...
Disillusion - the Liberation
I love their EP called 'Back To Times of Splendor'. Brilliant melodic, atmospheric metal with a touch of prog. I have been looking forward to this album. It did not disappoint, I must say.

Back to Times of Splendor is amazing, following it up with Gloria really threw people off quite a bit, but there's a few decent tunes in that one too.
The new one goes back to proggy melodic/death?

I think it is a mix of both albums. I'd describe it as proggy melodic/death, yes. But I have to admit, I was not as impressed as Back to Times of Splendor. I thought they were disbanded so I am pleasantly surprised. I'll give a few more listens and see if I still enjoy it. Amorphis - Queen of Time
Powerful album. Lots of nice melodies, beautiful passages and heavy riffs. I liked it a lot. I will see them on Sunday (if all goes well, this will be my first time).

While She Sleeps - So What?
A big question mark. Some good riffs here and there. High energy, aggressive, some nice melodies , early 2000s nu metal type vocals, a bit of an electronic touch, some shouting and screaming. Drums sound llke a drum machine. I'm sure some younger metal fans dig this but this is definately not my kind of metal.

Insomnium - Heart Like a Grave
I don't want to say this is not as strong as I hoped after my first listen. I am a big fan of their previous album 'Winter's Gate'. While this is certainly not bad, I just can't feel it. Maybe I need that moment to get into this album. It will need further listens.

Rhapsody of Fire - The Eight Mountain
I used to like some of their songs a lot when I was in high school. When their name was just 'Rhapsody'... then I lost track of what Luca Trulli and Fabio Lione do. Now both of them are no longer in the band. Current singer Giacomo Voli does a very good job, though...
Nonetheless, this is quality symphonic power metal.

Pink Floyd - Animals
Always thought this was an overlook gem in the PF catalogue, sandwiched between two other monumental albums. It's angry and spiky and dark. Waters is royally pissed off and it shows. this might be my fav PF album.....

Brilliant album. These guys do what they do almost flawlessly. Possibly the best hard rock album of 2019.

ABBA - Super trouper ABBA - The Visitors I've been waiting for Super Trouper to be listed Haha, yeah, as you might have been able to tell I've been checking out their discography in chronological order. Super trouper definitely had the most amount of great songs on first listen, so at least at the moment I feel it's their best album.

Now I only have B-sides and bonus tracks left to listen through. As always after checking out someone's discography I tend to feel a bit empty afterwards, but for the most part it's a really fun way of discovering music.
