interpol - antics
it's well class this record innit. interpol's first three records strike the line between sad and horny perfectly.
I still have my Birthday Party tanktop from the 80's. Its thin, holey and not really much of a tanktop anymore but I can't throw it away that's so cool and (post) punk
the australian punk and noise scene has always been great but in the 80s it must've been ace to be around it

uncle tupelo - no depression and 89/93 anthology idlewild - 100 broken windows and the remote part modest mouse - this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about and the lonesome crowded west the mountain goats - all hail west texas
wilco - sky blue skymargo price - midwest farmer's daughtercourtney marie andrews - may your kindness remain
all old favourites - some very old - for me. this is mostly because i'm lazy and busy at the moment and in my university work i've been thinking/writing a lot about rural/remote regions and underdevelopment and i'm always put in mind of these records when i write about these things (country music and rural/great plains indie rock generally will do that mind).
i've also listened to the new drive-by truckers track a lot. i like it but it hasn't grown on me as much as my play count would suggest - the patterson hood songs usually don't. looking forward to hearing a good trump-era mike cooley song on the new record however; i have much more time for a band from far northern alabama singing about unions (in various senses), distant and neglectful government and cruelty to others than eddie vedder deciding not to visit wyoming again because they voted for the evil orange man.
You would probably like these guys Bartman The album is Feel the Heat, this was the popular single
that was class. i hadn't heard of them before but i will be sure to check them out further, starting with that album! thank you.

Opeth - In Cauda Venenum I was not expecting much from this album given I haven't been that taken with their last few. But this. This! This is hands down the best thing they've done since Deliverance was released 18 years ago. Yes I feel old too.
Jean-Michael Jarre - Oxygène Awesome 70s synth-based album. Glad I finally checked it out.
Vangelis - Voices Beautiful! I've been fixing up an old Korg X3 synth recently so I've been on a synth kick. Vangelis used the same synth, therefore my journey took me here. Gorgeous ambient/new age music.

vemod - venter på stormene lovely. somehow only just finding this band but it is exactly my kind of thing. it's a very arctic-sounding record in its expansivness and its, very beautiful, coldness. i think some tracks go a little long but i can forgive that in a black metal band that actually achieves such a sound! reminds me a little of early-ulver had they come about in the pacific northwest 10 years later.
aw man that is dirty and grungy but also a little like a rockier wilco (on the second song), very nice. big fan of them now! they sound like what i want the breeders to sound more like. thank you!

Yay, I knew you'd like it! Glad that you did. Yeah, I picked two pretty different songs. She gets around is fucking awesome (I just love the whole build up to the chorus and then the Nirvana-ish chorus itself) and No more pennies sounds really 70's power pop to me, which is a great thing. Besides that they've got such a mesmerizing front woman in Arrow De Wilde, and the guitarist Henri is just great at what he's doing, especially considering his young age.
As you can tell I'm a big fan of them too. ; D
I feel bummed about discovering their music just a few months after they visited my city (without me knowing then of course)...I hope they will be back soon. They seem to be fucking great live:

parquet courts - human performance
i put this on while i was doing work and i forgot about it but it's still a very nice record
molly tuttle - when you're ready i think this is her debut full record? really nice modern bluegrass record. terrific voice and insane guitar technique.

thank you! yes, i have enjoyed them a lot. i have been spinning a few tracks the past few days and i have not heard anything i have not liked a lot. they make me feel old almost looking at how young they are! not that i am old at all but they seem to be as talented as they are young, it's wild.
i cannot believe that you missed them but that is always the way with these things. i really enjoyed that performance, hopefully one day you can see them!!

Annihilatr - Ballistics, Sadistic
This is actually much better than what I expected. I like them a lot. Jeff Waters is a phenomenal player, and a OK-ish thrash metal vocalist. However he is not known as a brilliant composer, though he has written many amazing thrash metal songs. There is usuaully something missing in his late albums. and I never liked the guitar tone he has been using in a long time.
But this album is pretty good.
I highly recommend this to any thrash metal fan.
Candlemass - The Door to Doom
Epic. Evil. Dark. Nothing else needs ot be said. Awesome.

the last few weeks I've been listening to Beyonce. I've had ' Irreplaceable' stuck in my head! the darn song won't leave my mind! so today I bought 4, yes 4 of her albums (got 1 for free). her first solo album, 'I Am Sasha Fierce', '4' & 'Lemonade'. I bought 'BDay' a couple of weeks ago. why has it taken me so long to get into this wonderful woman's voice? I've been watching some of her live stuff on youtube, she's like a modern day Tina Turner.

I think it's better than 'BDay' but that album has ' Irreplaceable' on it and I love that song. I got 3 of her cds for only $20 today and ' Lemonade' cost me $23 but it comes with a dvd. I'll give that album a listen to next and let you know what I think of it. ' Lemonade' is her latest release correct?

Yes, I actually only like Irreplaceable on B'day (I like the track Listen too, if counting the bonus tracks). The first album didn't click with me at all so I have no favorites from that one. Do that! Yup, it is. It's her latest full album. She released the Lion King soundtrack last year, where there are some new songs, but it's not only Beyoncé tracks on it.

Post-Apocalypto by Tenacious D: As an album it sucks. It has 21 tracks of which 10 spoken words from the cartoon and 10 'songs' with an avarage runtime of myba 40 seconds. The cd is only half an hour long.

Had a big (Loud) session in the shed on Saturday getting some stuff done and knocking back some beers on my lonesome, listening to tunes. Not in the correct order but I think this is all I get through that day
The Barflys - selftitled (local band from the 90s, had more bumper stickers in my town than all the radio stations put together / my friend played drums for them)
John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (I listened to both mono and stereo coz its on the one disc)
Metallica - DM (because of that poll thread - has not aged too well actually and oh yeah I really love S&R)
The Angels - Face to Face (Classic Oz rock, huge album for them)
John Martyn - Solid Air (nice and mellow with Man at the Station being a great standout track)

Magna Carta Cartel - Good morning Restrained
Perfect quiet and snowy day to spin this one. Such beautiful music. Makes me sad, but gives me hope. So many good songs. Love this one.

a few from lately:
makaya mccraven & gil scott-heron - we're new again
real bart heads will ken that gil scott-heron's i'm new here was one of my top records of 2009 and the 2000s as a whole and that jamie xx's 2011 reworking we're new here was my record of 2011 and one of my top of the 2010a. so, appropriately, makaya mccraven's reworking is currently my album of the year/decade. jamie xx took the record into early '10s british pirate and bass culture and the result was a vibrant, jazzy record with heavy dub(-step) vibes, late night xx allusions and steel drums! it felt more like a collab record than a reworking per se. makaya mccraven's reworking however is completely immersed in the world of scott-heron, to the extent that one could imagine him making this record today: dirty blues and full on spiritual jazz are predominant sounds on this record. mccraven's drumming is a fantastic as ever and i think this is his best record yet as a bandleader. gid stuff.
eli keszler - stadium
this is joyous. avant garde percussionist who recently moved to manhattan so made a record about it and its sounds! it exists in the space between free jazz, techno and modern compositional music - a really good city record and record of a city. nice.
chepang - lathi charge
i think this is only an ep but it's grindcore so what is the difference. this is fucking class. this is exactly what i want my grindcore/hardcore to sound like; utterly cacophonous - two drummers who are playing two different and extremely percussive things, two vocalists exchanging grunts, screams and hardcore chanting and one guitarist playing sharp almost post-punky riffs (channeled via earth crisis).well lovely.
Metallica - DM (because of that poll thread - has not aged too well actually and oh yeah I really love S&R) you know, i have really come around to S&R these past few years. i really disliked it back in 2008 but for whatever reason it has become the only song i can remember from DM these days.

I've been taking a break from albums in recent years and focused more on individual songs, singles, and tracks that are popular or that people recommend. I will continue to do this however I got back on the album binge recently starting with these 2 albums. Don't know if I will start listening as much as I used to though, which was like 2 albums a day. I was a total album addict then and wanted something new all the time, but I think I could pull off a couple of albums each week now. Also Sig, Meshuggah is a joke in comparison to this stuff:
Humanity's Last Breath - Abyssal This band just keeps getting heavier. Super intense stuff here with gloomy production and crisp djenty guitars playing in Drop God-knows-what complimented by growls that sound like they came from the devil himself. I like the twist they put on it with adding clean vocals to the choruses, it really catches you off guard.
Bermuda - Use Your Burdens Very similar to the first one except they're tuned EVEN LOWER. The song "The Recluse" uses Drop E0 I believe. "Orphans" may be the best use of ultra low tuning I have ever heard. The vocals and tone (during more audible frequencies) are a bit lacking in comparison to the HLB album but still a fun time. At least they have better clean vocals than the other guys. Oh and I really hate the production of the newest album from these guys, so I didn't give that one a listen.
