Charlie Griffiths - Tiktaalika
Solo project from the guitarist of Haken. This album impressed me a lot. And easily could be considered one of the best metal albums of 2022. This sounds like a mix between Death, contemporary progressive metal, a bit of classical thrash metal. It is a very melodic album. Despite the obvious nods to the classical era of metal, it has a very fresh sound. Highly recommended to anyone. A good read on the album: www.angrymetalguy.com/charlie-griffiths-tiktaalika-review/

Haken - Fauna
Very good album by one of the best bands of the last decade. Ross Jennings is a super talented vocalist. Perfect fit for Haken.
It's Haken so you have to expect some surprising parts and they definately delivered! My favourite songs are; Sempiternal Beings, Islands in the Clouds, Elephans Never Forget.

Metallica - Kill'em All
Great debut, isn't it? But some songs are weak in todays standards. Or to better put it, these songs might be heavily criticisized if the band would have released them today. Is it because the songs themselves are really that bad? or is it because we have been exposed to so many great songs - both from Metallica and from other bands) and to many interesting stuff from countless sub genres, these feel weak? Who cares, though... they have started it. Released this in the very right moment almost before everyone else.
Rightfully earned the title 'trailblazers'.
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
The first of the perfect albums series by Metallica. I wouldn't change anything. There are many strokes of geniuses placed inside. I also like the sound of this album.
Metallica - Master of Puppets
is it the best album by them? Most likely. Everything is perfect here.
Metallica - And Justice for All
My favourite Metallica album. Despite the production criticism, everything else is perfect for me. I love the tones, the vocals, the ferocity, the riffs, the intricate rhythm section and everything else in between.
Metallica - Hardwired to Self Destruct
I have a soft spot for this album. I think they managed to better every flaw DM had with this album. I also like the diversity here. Favourite songs are; Dream No More, Spit out the bone, Halo on Fire, Manunkind and Hardwired.

Kiss - Music from The Elder Always critised and not really the best idea for their career but I love it, always have, and glad it exists. The Oath is great as are many others on here that nobody gives time to.
SOAD - Toxicity Great up loud, I really love drumming on many of these songs, particularly the title track. Pogo pogo pogo pogo!
Motorhead - Aftershock One of the later albums maybe 10 years old now? Took a few listens to appreciate this one. Kept on going back to Lost Woman Blues, little different to your typical Motorhead sound.
The Walker Brothers Story A double vinyl I picked up awhile back. Has the big hit "The Sun and gonna shine anymore", a good 60s compilation but doesnt quite hit like Scott Walkers solo stuff I have.
Sympathy Orchestra - debut Cant recall the name now, ( its still in the car and im not going to check ) Local longtermers play bluesy and intricate instrumentals. We've seen them couple of times now and inquired about any recordings...they have 3 albums, last one only with current lineup. Seems they had keyboardist early on but it all still works sweet.

They were like the next big thing in the metal world.

Metallica - S&M 2
This feels more laid back than the first one. I like some of the ideas and songs. Iron Foundry is a favourite of mine so when I saw this being played I got really excited. It is also a piece I learned from our good old forums.

Metallica - St. Anger
Aside from the production weakness and flaws, this one features some interesting stuff. First off, it needs proper editing. Many of the songs are too long. The copy paste feel is unmistaken.
Some unconventional solo-ing / effects could have been added. Kirk could have done much better if he was given the green light. It's a good album in terms of the releasing the energy and tension they had at the moment. It's a therapy album. They were able to afford it so they did. I never liked the riffs for the title song but interestingly, it's a (or at least could be ) a good song using some riffs that I don't like much.
Despite the huge crticism, St.Anger has a lot of interesting ideas that were never used before or after that period.
It also probably features Lars' most creative, and perhaps aggressive, drumming.

Kirk Hammett - Portals
Great work. Not mindblowing but definately great work and I love his artistic goals in this. Cinematic, almost soundtrack-esque rock music! Love it. I have always loved that kind of stuff.
I hope he will expand on this in future. Maiden and the Monster is the best song for me. But all of them feature many intertesting details.
I just wished that his creativity would be on the same levels with the new Metallica albums or at least he was allowed to be so.

I played that EP again just the other day, got me thinking whether he will do another, or will time be an issue with the touring cycle about to begin. I stayed on the soundtrack theme afterwards and spun Death Wish II. Its dated siund but that little piece called Prelude I love.

But I also know that he has more stuff written for an entire album. If I remember correctly, he mentioned this in one of the recent interviews. edit: Sicjes already posted it!

Cheers fellas, good to hear isnt it. Will see what comes. Maybe downtime on tour without the alcohol will allow him to keep some momentum on solo output

Slash - ORGY OF THE DAMMED was a pretty good listen. Id listened tona couple of tracks as they were put up on YT so I knew a bit of who was featured. On a bit of a Beth Hart kick at the moment so Stormy Monday was a cool bonus for me right now. Shame there wasnt more Steven Tyler on harmonica, good stuff.
Also been playing the Joe Bonamassa album with Beth Hart. Great cover of Strange Fruit and they do Nutbush City Limits which no one should do coz Tina cant be beat, but I think she did it justice.
Been in shed all day so also played the new Hard Ons album a few times 🤟🤟
