I thought Rob got sidetracked and did something else entirely, leaving an acoustic Day yet to be done (?)

James sounds incredible, here. 1988 vocals are perfection.

They might release Load this year, followed by ReLoad early/mid next. Then Garage, Inc. in late 2024. If we get lucky, St. Anger in late 2025/ early 2026? Is S&M supposed to get a deluxe box set treatment too? Metclub Dan said that they haven't started the Load boxset yet. They were gearing up to but then Metallica decided to write a new album which took priority and the boxest was put on hold. So any hope that the Load box comes out within the next 2 years is pretty much gone. I think he's being a bit more circumspect than usual. I think they started work on it last year, there was a call for submissions from fans. 72S definitely put the brakes on the boxset coming out this year (maybe) but that doesn't mean he stopped working on it. There'll be fucking hours of material to go over so even if he's just cataloguing it, he'll be earmarking stuff out for inclusion, guaranteed. As much as I REALLY want that box this year... I suspect it'll be next year. But who the fuck knows. We never thought we'd get a new album in 2023 either. www.amazon.com/Metallica-Monster-Lives-Inside-Story/dp/0312333129

A must read. You get 500x more insight into what really happened during the filming of the movie. You get Metallica and crew real time experience of 9/11, More into the Dave Mustaine stuff, auditions for bass players, and so much more cool and interesting stuff. Metallica: This Monster Lives is a 2004 book written by Joe Berlinger and Greg Milner about how Berlinger recorded the feature-length film Metallica: Some Kind of Monster in collaboration with Metallica. The book follows the journey both he, his film partner Bruce Sinofsky, and Metallica went through during the creation of the film. The book takes place at the time when Berlinger and Sinofsky first met with Metallica in 1999 for the 2003 Summer Sanitarium Tour. Berlinger and Sinofsky's relationship was troubled, exacerbated by Berlinger's decision to direct the unpopular sequel to Blair Witch. At the start of filming, the relationship between the band members, especially between vocalist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, is in a similarly perilous position after bassist Jason Newsted quit the band and the long-standing disputes between the remaining members threaten to escalate. I am not sure if I even know this existed. Thank you.

What does it say at the beginning before the song starts?
There's a proto St.Anger snare in the song.

It was interesting that they played Blackened 2020 on Stern today. I guess because it was the origin of the new album, but it kinda feels like they're priming the fanbase for more acoustic stuff in the future as a way of slowing down a little bit. I wonder if we'll see acoustic mini-sets on the M72 tour.

I want the mini acoustic sets, but please God, not in the stadiums. That would be horrible. Acoustic sets need to be small and intimate.

There's a proto St.Anger snare in the song. Yes, I Disappear has that funny snare sound. To be honest that's never been an issue -- not the lack of solo or the subpar lyrics-- with that album (the obnoxious snare sound is actually present in some songs, not all); it's the poor arrangements, the lack of dynamics, how songs drag on.

I'm of the idea that "72 Seasons" doesn't have any ballads or instrumentals because the band members want to make the most of their energy now while they still have it for fast/ "muscle" songs as much as possible. They know they will slow down on the follow-up album.

This version of Lux Aeterna sounds even better that that from the Kimmel show. James killed it! And was very fun seeing Lars fluctuating so much on the tempo, and all the guys just following him. Don't get me wrong, I really love and prefer solid drumming, but this rendition sounded so organic it was great!

Just watched that Instagram video of the band commenting on the songs. It's just sad to see Kirk high as a kite like that on a promo video. Poor guy.
Seeing him like that in interviews has becomr more and more frequent in the last 5 years. No wonder his playing went down the drain...

James sounds so good on that Blackened acoustic cover... I would love for him to put out an album of that sort. He is much growlier than when playing songs with distortion, it's quite weird when I think about it

20th anniversary of SKOM is coming up next year. I propose that the band take the events of the documentary and turn them into a heavy metal musical to be performed on a limited run of dates, filmed and released on streaming platforms. The documentary has all the beats/set-pieces to turn into musical numbers. I honestly think it could work. It would piss off a decent section of their fan base as well, which I think would be a nice bonus.
"Some Kind of Musical" (working title)
Here's an idea for the first tune.
"He left the focking band!"
♪You can't stop me, I need to be free. I have far too much inside to express musically!
Choir: (He's leaving! He's leaving! He's left the focking band!)
No you can't!
Yes I can!
What about this contract??
Screw your f'ing contract!
Choir: (He's leaving! He's leaving! He's left the focking band!) ♪
And so on.
Other numbers could revolve around group therapy, James going into rehab (remember 'I'm Checking In!' from the Simpsons? Same idea), James coming out of rehab and rejoining the band. Bob being so happy to hear James play again. That big argument scene between James and Lars. Maybe a number right after where 'Kirk' does a solo song about how he just wants to smoke weed, surf, jam and chill. Auditioning new bass players. Going back on the road.

It will need a part when all the lights go dim and the spotlight shines down just off to the side of stage, cue the sad violins and Dave enters, singing the song "We smoked hash in the ground"
We smoked hash in ground, My little Danish friend can't be found. And I invented their sound, When we smoked hash in the ground. Hash in the ground.

More likely the future of Metallica lies in the end of 72 Seasons.... I think Inamorata might be a glimpse of what's coming... Metallica circling back and expanding on what they did with Load. Inamorata had shades of that album but it was also something new as well. I'm actually kind of ready to see MetallicA dial it back and go exploring in other soundscapes.
