I felt nostalgic for the Death Magnetic timez today and went back to Quebec Magnetic, it was such a fun listen. The band had such a sound then that I don’t know how to describe. They were sloppy but tight; their timing was all over the place and tempos were always fucked, but they all were locked in with each other.
I really do think Metallica in 2021 is tighter than Metallica in 2009, but hearing them from then is so nostalgic. Super interesting to hear how that era has developed a different sound for itself versus the present. Part of me still thinks 2004 to now has been one big era lol

I had no idea that they were recording for a dvd at the time. It was a really cool show, but what was really cool is that the venue it was at was so old, small and out dated compared to modern Hockey arenas here in North America, so it felt very 80s metal show in a small town local arena, only I was seeing Metallica! I had seen them here in Montreal a couple months earlier at our mega Sci-fi Futuristic arena, so the contrast definitely gave that show its own vibe. A few people were dressed up for Halloween, and these 2 drunk guys on the floor got into a huge fist fight over one of those black beach balls at the end of Seek.

Congrats on 12 years later! It was an awesome watch, I had the DVD for many years that I got as a freebie for going to one of the 2018 shows, but yesterday was the first time I watched it all the way through. What a fun show. The encores of the WM shows especially had a cool way of capturing that 80s vibe somehow.

That's all it takes to sound more tight, the other guys have always been in the pocket with their playing. I would say tighter, maybe, but they were 100000x better live performers in 09, amazing shows, setup and energy. One of my favorite periods in their whole carrier.

I really hate the mixing on Seattle 89.
Drums are too fucking loud, guitars are mush. They need to do a re-release with better audio cause it is absolutely terrible.

How would've post-Reload albums sounded like if the Tallica boys took a year off, settled their issues with Jason, and then got back in the studio?

Probably would have gotten the same sort of ST Angerish type of album. Seemed to be the direction James and Lars were going at the time. Maybe with less speed. Clover, Human, and I Disappear have that muddy garage feel, and Lars was playing with the Deftones tincan snare on I Disappear already.
I wonder if any of the Presidio stuff has Jason in the credits though.

Convinced this would've been on an actual album if the lyrics (mostly the title and chorus) weren't so goofy.

Los to me defines all that is wrong with modern day Metallica. Hints of decent ideas buried in god awful repetitive lyrics, the worst arrangements with the worst transitions known to mankind.

The Iron Maiden section in Atlas makes that whole song worth listening to.

The Iron Maiden section in Atlas makes that whole song worth listening to. Image that section in a good song instead of that stinking turd. it could rival their greatest tunes

To me, the part that makes that song is the pre-chrous.

It's that clunky NWOBH riff that kills Atlas for me. The rest I really love, but man that riff just drains the energy. The similar riff in Suicide is like 100x more cool and works for that song.

I was a little down on Suicide because of its similarities to Atlas, until I realized it does what Atlas wanted to do better.

The Iron Maiden section in Atlas makes that whole song worth listening to. It used to bother me they ripped off the Hallowed be Thy Name riff, but i don't really hear it anymore.

Dream No More feels like a leftover from the Load/Reload days, in a good way.

New album not going to be their last IMO Might take some more time for the next album though They might have worked on 2 albums worth of material, who knows. What if they are sitting on material and in 3 or 4 years another album drops? With Metallica you never know what's next... Didn't James get quoted in early 2021 that they had already been working on 10 songs? I'd imagine they could've very well worked on more things from that point until late 2022 when the album was announced, unless those 10 songs were not good enough and got ditched, and they had to start all over...
