Their management overlords will never allow them to stop touring. Can't even manage a new album after 2 years in lockdown, not even a little EP or single. Sad times. Good on Kirk though for being productive.

Kirk's latest comments on how he wasn't supposed to talk about a new album has had me thinking there might be a new album sooner than we think. Let's not forget James quote in early 2021 stating they had already begun working on 10 songs, at least. Add there the guys have been really sharp and tight live, which may suggest studio activity.

I've got a feeling they might call it a day from the way James has been acting (ie he's too old etc).

I hope Kirk's EP put little fire under Lars and James ass. Like hey, we could sound epic like this, let's listen to Kirk for a change.

They simply have no interest in making new music. Sad but true.

They manage the band to make money. In 2022 albums don't make money, touring and merch make money. A year in the studio to make an album is a loss, they will sell out X show wether there is a new album or not.

They simply have no interest in making new music. Sad but true. They put the work in to make those snazzy unplugged versions, I'd love an actual studio version of those. Maybe if a new album comes soon those will be the bonus tracks.

I’d love an acoustic album one day. Some remakes, some covers, some acoustic originals. Then tour it as the expanded acoustic band. Preferably in 5 years or so though, they still have some metal speed in them that I wouldn’t want to waste doing acoustic stuff

Yeah there is money in touring and they want to make money but they can't do a proper tour = 50+ gigs a year (NA x2, SA, Euro x2, Asia, Aus) without new album to support it.

I think a lot of people don't realize how important new albums are to casual fans. The new music itself doesn't mean much but new albums get these bands in the news and on late night shows and generally reach people that aren't super up to date with the band. Or even get them back into the band for a little bit.

Is that something they even still want do? The huge tour thing? The gears are slowing down fast. I hope they come back around here soon, last time was 2017 (!) But boy are the years flying by. Add another 2-3 years of age to the guys when they do make it back here.

I disagree - bands like Metallica, Guns N Roses etc are household names that can and do play stadiums and festivals around the world off their back catalogues from 30-40 years ago. They’re always in the media and don’t need a new album to be featured. They have new fans coming in all the time from their wide media exposure. Just look at Puppets on Stranger Things. Making an album is a huge time and money cost when they could be out playing their greatest hits all over the world making huge money on ticket sales and merch. New music out of a band with Metallica’s fame and tenure really only comes from the artists desire to create…business wise it makes no sense to pause their money making business (after two years of Covid) to go into the studio to make an album that only a small percentage of fans will care about and buy and want to hear at shows.

Seeing the same songs played live over and over again is not very interesting imo. They should release a new album every 5 years max if they remain an active band.

Yeah you're right actually. But I would still replace "album" in my post with *something interesting* - I'd count MOP in Stranger Things counts as that. It's more because of Covid but it just feels like the band hasn't done anything too interesting in the last few years apart from S&M2. But now that I think about it, they were on Colbert and Kimmel last year for virtually no reason, so scratch my entire point lol. I'm just being hopeful at this point. I'm still holding out a glimmer of hope that those random Buffalo and Pittsburgh shows in a couple weeks have an alterior motive to them. Whether they're going to film something or play something special. They just seem too random.

So there's just those 2 dates on the tour page? That's it? Am I missing something? I thought they had a few more after the U.S. shows.

Reading the Metallica "discovery" comments on the MOP clip from Lollapalooza is a riot. Good see the youngsters appreciate something bigger than Travis Scott and all that garbage TicTocky stuff, but it's still amusing to see their gears in action.
