This discussion about how to make music. How much longer? Filmmakers do that too? Hypu scale for the number of interviews / stories. You drop the bomb (news) and people start talking/waiting. Some photos, a trailer and a craze at the cinema. I know it’s music … but it’s like … I’m making a movie, I don’t know what it will be yet, I don’t even know what I’m doing. What movie? I can’t say. When will the premiere? I don’t know. About what? I have no idea…but I know I do it. You speak like that when you don’t plan anything - I’m guessing. It’s music. Almost like poetry. You have a stream of content or you don’t have one. Can you force yourself to do this?

I'm watching some random live stream of the band right now. I thought it was cheesy at first, but I kind of like their move to intro tracks and pre-song videos. I know it's because they're older and need some more breaks, but it really keeps the flow of the concert up. The intro video and track to For Whom the Bell Tolls actually got me hyped and it's a song I've seen a bunch. Totally different energy from what Metallica concerts looked like 10 years ago, but it's still a cool thing.

Not a bad setlist from last night opening with Whiplash and Seek was out the way early. Still only doing 16 songs.
Pretty decent looking poster for it too.

Maybe my mind is still living in the DM era but Seek being so early on the setlist is still weird to me. I always expect the "did you have fun tonight??" from James and it's not there lol

If they feel the need to play it, I'm glad they aren't closing every show with it anymore. As contrived as it is, Sandman feels way more appropriate. Even though I did like the house lights up, party vibe of the World Magnetic tour with them ending with that. I still wish more than anything that they switched up their closers. Even if it was between Seek, Sandman, and MOP and they still played all 3 somewhere in the set, it would add a little more spice.
Also 16 song sets are definitely the new normal. Along with the intro tapes for songs that can sometimes be up to 2 minutes long, so the shows themselves aren't that much shorter. I really wish they would do instrumental -> doodle though to give James then Lars a rest. But they're all getting older, I understand any cuts they need to make.

This Roam theme doesn’t sound like ethnic US or EU music - but I’m no expert
Some of these sounds on Fear of the Dark, ReLoad and some other more advanced (in that direction) bands. Then St Anger whitout solos etc eg That Was Just Your Life sounds different

Seems like the sets this year so far are fairly copy/paste with a couple of alternating slots. But as far as flow goes I do like it more than a lot of sets they’ve had for the last several years. I also noticed Roam has fallen out of heavy rotation, I had no clue until I looked at the stats. It’s only been played a couple dozen times since 2016, including only once on the 2019 tour.

For this band to play a “new” song as an encore and have the crowd audibly woahing along to the guitar harmonies in 2022 is pretty awesome. The setlist part of me is really disappointed after the last 2 nights, but after watching tonight’s livestream, it’s a more solid show than they’ve put on touring in awhile. It feels like 2021 was a warm up after a year and a half off, and they’re really working this year.
I’m really hoping they’re in full pre-album cycle mode right now.
