The covers were great but they all came out years before Hardwired.

I'm still annoyed they changed disc 3 of Hardwired for live stuff last minute. I'm sure it was to save it for the box set but I want to hear how those songs came together more than most songs from the last 20 years. Yeah I wanted that too, I love to see how songs we listen got their progress over time. Sadly even James said it was unnecessary and low quality so they decided to remove them for a live show and covers. Another decision I seriously question is why they re-mixed the live show but only re-mastered the covers. I mean apart from Ronnie Rising, they seriously needed a remix. It is hard to listen to those covers with that loudness (and of course snare).

That Remember Tomorrow cover is a fantastic performance but the mixing makes the original Death Magnetic look like the black album.

Metallica are playing Boston Calling, which I had tickets for already. I was going to sell them after Rage Against the Machine dropped but this line-up is solid enough to keep em, plus I already have a group that wants to go.
I really need to stop saying "this will be the last time I see Metallica" I guess

As much as I have seen my fill of shows, and prices these days / pre assumed boredom, I've always had a blast and made lifelong memories.
I can't imagine Metallica playing in my city, or a city over, and not going. At this point it almost feels like an obligation to go, like a work Christmas party or a wedding.
Sitting at home, knowing that Metallica is rocking out close by and I'm not there, would be slightly traumatic for me I think. Maybe, if it was outdoors, I'd find myself outside the gates listening from a distance without even knowing how I got there if I every decided to skip out on grabbing tickets 🤔

Yeah I'm sort of in that boat too. Seeing them pop up in the New England area is so damn rare too.

The doctored/edited version is up and it's slightly less painful than the live performance was.

I'd say it's a whole lot better than the actual live version in terms of hiding how much Hetfield struggled with the vocals. If I had only heard this version, I would never have guessed the actual version was as painful as it was.
But that drum fill into the middle breakdown is just fucking terrible. Whichever editor did that needs to have a job evaluation soon. It makes me laugh that the cut away in the video too. Awful awful awful.

Oh wow, that edit was fucking jarring. Honestly I dunno how to feel about this recent trend of increasing amounts of production and cleanup (and autotune) on the live uploads. I don't like it when it's done to a live album, let alone what are essentially meant to be official bootlegs.
I know that it's nothing new for them with S&M probably being the poster child for them since that has entire vocal sections re-recorded, shitloads of autotune, drum fills inserted, solos redone, etc. but somehow it feels like all that shit should be kept away from the YouTube uploads at least. Either upload that shit warts and all or then just don't bother. Even if James can't sing the chorus or the whole song really at all. Fuck it, that's life and that's playing live. Sometimes you're off your game.

didn't know who he was till I read the article. he must've helped Metallica's career alot. RIP. He and his wife Marsha, basically mortgaged their house and used all their savings to get Kill Em All made and put the band on the road to tour that album. It was off the back of their independent label, Megaforce Records, that Metallica got signed to Elektra and picked up by Q Prime. No Johnny Z, no Metallica basically.

Surprising. His and Marsha's name are always a part of the Metallica story being told. He was often included in smaller special shows, the band always kept contact and would reach out. I recall Lars calling him out during these shows but would call him Johnny Z. Marsha died last year I think.

Had a random Metallica playlist going today. A song started, I knew it was Metallica, but my brain just wasn't pulling up the name. I guess I'm getting old, it was Lord's of Summer 🤣 it's been a while.

I recommend everyone to listen Am I Savage and Spit Out The Bone in this order. This is the most brutal feeling you'll ever get from Metallica.
