I just realised...They didn't play Master of puppets or One last night. : O First no Enter Sandman or Nothing else matters, then no TBA songs at all and now no Master of puppets or One.

Two completely unique sets for two separate nights at the festival. I'm actually surprised they held on to that, but I suppose having TBA take up 12 out of 17 slots helped make that more feasible. No Seek or Bellz on the second night either. |

I'm interested to see if they continue doing TBA for one night for the other two night stands or if they throw in anything else weird. I could see them bringing back MOP for the 35th anniversary.

So cool they played Black in full...but man the clips on YouTube sound rough. Hopefully just seem a lot worse because they are shitty phone recordings and maybe I've been spoilt by all the 1991-93 content I've been listening to in the boxset, but these performances sound really wobbly and unrehearsed compared to how they came out guns blazing in the 2012 performances. Their tightness and James' voice is definitely a lot more rusty than normal. It reminds me of how they sounded in 2004 though, so nothing extremely tragic. Hopefully they'll get some fire soon. Lars on the other hand definitely practiced in the last year. His fills are sounding a little more unique and a lot more solid tempo-wise. I think he's playing to a click track now set at album tempos, it's helped a lot. I dare say Lars is the most well rehearsed sounding, best performing member of the band at the moment, maybe alongside Rob. Het's voice sounds pretty bad on the Black Album stuff, and Kirk has destroyed every solo with his "in the moment" improv. Hets voice is pretty weak/flat in the the latest Bells and Clover pro shot clips that are up too. Even Het's guitar tone/sound somehow seems worse this year, but I think its this new cheap Kill Em All style Electra V he's playing as his guitar sounds pretty good and chunky when he breaks out the Black Album for on Of Wolf and Man. Hopefully it's just an adjustment period after a couple of years off, I think they started sounded pretty good again around 2019 before the long term pause. |

Misery also sounds great here. They've clearly edited out a lot of the mistakes present in the audience recordings but that's a good thing.

After all these years, and thousands of listens to songs, I could not recite most of those lyrics without a cheat sheet or the actual song playing (in the moment they come to me). Back in my cover band days, the songs I would sing, no problem.

That's weird, cuz that sounds nothing alike I guess em sounded like then, vi sounded like be, lance sounded like late and then my primed (from mishearing it) brain filled out the rest to make it perfectly believable. Not having English as my mother tongue (even though I'd say I'm at least pretty good at it) might have had a part in it as well. Pretty sure also that I didn't know any song lyrics that included the words emblem or vigilance back in my early teens when I heard Don't tread on me for the first time(s). |
