Inamorata was one of the places it didn't bother me, weirdly. The hi hat rolls feel tasteful and I could see a lot of drummers playing the same part in that section. Spoilers to not make anyone else's ears mad at this but HOW did Kirk or anyone not notice the Mary Jane's Last Dance lick in the solo of Crown. It feels so out of place. Completely agree, I actually like it in Inamorata. It annoys me everywhere else though.

Call me crazy, but what would make Sleepwalk much better would be some really prominent harmonies. The vocals just feel empty, which is a problem for a few of the chorus melodies on the album but Sleepwalk bothers me the most. Someone ask Jerry Cantrell to do a remix.

I’m digging in a little deeper after getting some time to listen to some of the songs again, while still multitasking. Crown of barbed wire is a damn good song. James is killing it. I’m liking what I’m hearing with more listens. So good though.

I Met Rob Today in Berlin and he was so freaking nice!
It was awesome.
I am buzzing, haven’t felt like this for an album in so long.
Alps readjusting my initial dislike for Chasing Light. It’s actually fucking great.
Inamorata however, is My friend of misery pt 2, even the guitar lead harmonies bends in the middle are teasing the same sound and notes, and the hi hats.
I hope they play this live. It’s equal to MFOM, Bleeding me, Outlaw and Fixxxer for me. A Damn good record.

i love how james is still trying and finding new vocal deliveries. i wish kirk would do the same thing with his leads and tell Lars to leave him alone and let him do his thing

Kirk's original riff was better than what ended up on the album.

Just gave all the new songs a couple more listens (I mean, the really new ones, not the singles) and I genuinely enjoy all of them.
Regarding the singles, Lux really has grown a lot on me and now is a favorite. I also like IDHD and 72S.
The weakest song for me is SS. At least for now.

I find getting the 4 singles ahead of time was sort of a blessing and a curse.
On one hand it was like YAY! new Metallica! (x4) even though each one of those I kind of hated at first, but then they clicked and I loved them. They satisfied the craving at the time, an appetizer if you will.
But, I avoided them all week leading up to the release to not burn out on them. They set the bar as far as I knew at the time. So on my first listen of the album I did all 12 in order as it should be. Every other listen I've been skipping those four because I obviously am on a high from the new stuff. But the new stuff just blows these songs away for the most part. Not that those 4 are bad, but compared to some of these new ones... It was like that Anger and criticism I had for those singles I did not feel at all for most of the other 8 except for Sleepwalk and Inamorata. It was an instant hook for me for most of it, just melting my face off in awe.
And now that I will be ignoring the four singles for a while, I can come back to them as a mini EP with the Killing me and Borderline for a bit before I merge them in with these 8 in my obsessive playlist.

I'm totally with you on this. This record has temporarily only 8 songs for me, maybe with some Lux and IDHS now and then. The chorus on IDHS is so great that I miss this song sometimes, even if I don't like it that much.

A lot of what Im feeling about 72 Seasons has already been written. My cinema night was enjoyable, though I knew I was always gonna want a bit more volume. Robs thoughts on some songs were a little odd....This 1 reminds me of Cheech and Chong. Huh? My initial description was one word: dense. No light and shade, which I miss. After a CD listen things start to gel. I really love Shadows Follow, the If I Run stabbiness and then stop, Nooo!, and the last 3 songs are amazing. James sounds awesome on Too Far Gone....love the vocal melodies....it reminds me a bit of the Soundgarden cover they did, Head Injury. This song also has some welcome guitar harmonies after Kirks solo. Lux still has that addictive catchiness for me and agree with others that it could have been the opener. Robs bass sounds great in most tracks, you can hear the slides and it sounds so thick in places. Am loving that opening to Sleepwalk but probably the song I would put at the bottom of my list. You Must Burn has a Dream No More vibe to my ears, really love effect on James voice in the mid section and then Kirks middle-eastern licks. And more Rob slides, sounds great I hear Sabbath through a lot of the album, not just the final song. Moments of punkish rock with James vocal deliveries, and a new listener would be surprised at the band members ages I would think....songs sound lively, listen to Lars around 5 minute mark of Mirrors, great stuff. Crown sounds a bit Confusion-ey which was a song I liked from HWTSD, but another song on the lower end of the list. Says a lot because I do like it, however its up against some killer songs. Chasing Light has Anthrax like bouncy riffs to my ears. Im starting to like this one a lot more than cinema night (could have been the shit video that ruined this one.....I did close my eyes a few times during that night just to try focus on certain songs) Some of these songs still yet to be properly absorbed but this albums flow really finishes on a high from Too Far Gone onwards. Inamorata is a ripper way to close the album. The length was a concern but nah, no issue. Love love love the Misery part, such a great chorus. Hi-hat annoyed me in cinema but its not bothering me here at home.... dont know why that is but glad I am seeing more positives in Lars performances on this album than negatives. If anything Robs bass loses some of the fatness in that quiet section. The solos on Inamorata are already favourites. Kinda like how they kept some pieces of studio chat....album ends with That was the best one... best song, best take or best album? Signs off like thats a good way to leave the legacy, I hope thats not the case. I would really like more of what they have delivered here. Stay tuned as all these opinions change after a week of listening

Darkness also has Am I Savage halfspeed plod parts under solo which I like. Then some more Dream No More vibes. Really good song, shouldnt be ignored because it was a preview relesse

Listening to the last 3 songs again.
Lars hihat in that bass break of Inamorata makes me think he is channeling Ian Paice on Woman From Tokyo. And then when James comes back in I get Sad Wings Of Destiny Priest vibes.
Too Far Gone might be my favourite. The chorus is so damn catchy. I cant place the song it reminds me of.

Lyrically I find this album pretty interesting. It obviously touches on dark subjects as usual but generally speaking there are hopeful and positive messages spread all over the songs. It's actually pretty refreshing for Metallica. I guess it fits with the supposed theme of "light".

I find that Too Far Gone could have been the album title track in the second slot position. It has a loose MOP & AJFA vibe. The beginning of the songs riffing is similar to MOP and how the verses work, the Too Far Gone Rolling half time part is like the Come crawling faster part, then it goes into a "Nothing can Save us, pulling your strings justice is done" kind of thing, and it ends with a similar AJFA Harmony build up Near the end ending with the same kind of punchy accents.
In another timeline
Metallica Too Far Gone
A Lux Aeterna Too Far Gone Crown of Barbwire or IDHAS Inamorata
Etc

Now that I finally got to sit in a dark room and blast the lyric videos. I am so impressed with how good this album is this late in their career. These songs are hitting just right for me especially with a clear understanding of all the lyrics. Room of mirrors is so personal and intense, I’m kind of blown away by it. Too far gone, you must burn, inamorata, are phenomenal. Crown of barb wire is great. I’ve always like Lux and the the others fit well and still work for me in the album as a whole, making me appreciate SS and IDHAS more. Who makes such good content this late in their career. It’s insane. I respect the hell out of what they have done and their ability to endure everything they’ve been through and still be together as a band doing what they are doing. They truly are incredibly special. I hope they know the appreciation their fans have for them, which I’m sure they do.

Was that the song with weird ass 80s PC graphics and lars as a 4 armed alien? Strange call on some of the vid stuff. Chasing Light was a bad Space Invader glitch in black and white and there was another one with blocks and orange squares.

Room of mirrors have great lyrics, I can for sure relate. If they had cut Kirk’s horrible wah solo and also ended the song after the cool dual lead section this would have been a top tier song for me.
Actually again the biggest downside with this album is how they cannot seem to end the songs without either putting some random stuff in the end or repeating each riffs from the entire song. Just end it when you’ve said what you have to say

Forget what I just said, Inamorata is my favourite song EVER!!! Maybe it will not be a song I listen to everyday if even every week or month, but in the future when I put on this song I’m gonna be smiling or sobbing, either way it will be great.
This is to me the best song since Outlaw and Bleeding Me, a song that whenever your hear it you get somewhat emotional and go: WOW - this is the best stuff they’ve ever written. I still get that feeling when I listen to those songs.
Just amazing, thank you for that one.
Edit - finally got around to listen to it while reading the lyrics, it made the experience even better. And probably the most important bit, even with all the twists and turns, solo's and stuff, I wouldn't change one thing about it. It's just perfect to me, even Lars's hi-hat gets a pass this time
