Inamorata is the type of song I never thought they'd write again. Something in the vein of Outlaw Torn and Fixxxer. It's outstanding.

I think the thing I'm not jiving with the most on this album is the tracklist. The flow just feels... odd. Especially the first half. "Sleepwalk" and "You Must Burn!" back to back is too much. Thankfully, we get "Lux Aeterna" next to pick up some speed. Still... If "Sleepwalk My Life Away" was left out of the album, i wouldn't complain.

Inamorata is the type of song I never thought they'd write again. Something in the vein of Outlaw Torn and Fixxxer. It's outstanding. They share the same epic feel, but that's about it, IMO. Musically, "Outlaw" and "Fixxxer" are more airy and laid back. "Inamorata" is pure Sabbath worship. Very groovy and evil sounding. Love them all, anyway.

Shadows Fall might be the best song on the album.

I was going to do a song by song review, but I'm gonna do a 72 Seasons (should really be 72 Hi-Hats) tier list.
S: Inamorata A: Lux Æterna, Chasing Light B: You Must Burn!, Room of Mirrors, Too Far Gone?, Shadows Follow C/D: Crown of Barbed Wire, 72 Seasons, If Darkness Had A Son, Sleepwalk My Life Away, Screaming Suicide We Did it Again:
Overall, it's not a bad album, the riffs and James' songwriting make it a good album. The drumming and some of the guitar solos unfortunately make this album suffer more than it needs to. The ending of Chasing Light was pretty rad. Some songs need to be trimmed down though.

Did a run through of the album while following along with the lyrics.
You Must Burn! seems like it's about Cancel Culture Crown of Barbed Wire shares a vein with King Nothing Chasing Light (lyrically) seems like a continuation to Halo On Fire themes.
I love how James alters the chorus at the end of Too Far Gone? From questioning to "I am never too far gone save I can make it through the day"
Fucking right!

I wish they had more of those guitar harmonies from those last three songs. It just gives the songs an extra dimension automatically, at least for me. But then again, probably shouldn't over-do it.

Slightly liking the cover art more, after listening to the whole album.

Alright, today is the day for proper listens!
I went to the cinema last night and thoroughly enjoyed that. Despite the super lack of energy I had, the energy of the album was enough for me. I have so many thoughts flying in my mind and I need to get a better understanding of the album. I'm only my second proper listen right now. But I alreaady got familiar with the songs that I thought was not possible after one listen. Thanks to the cinema experience.
I have mixed feelings about some of the songs and that is normal. But the immediate stand out track for me is
SHADOWS FOLLOW!

I easily like this album better than the last 3. By a mile. I'm not getting bored of these tracks at all...

This might be the first Metallica album where I do not like a single song. It's not a terrible album, each song has some cool moments, but not enough for me to like one in full.
Ah well, we'll try again in six years.

This album feels like a natural continuation of TBA, Load / Reload, and released before Hardwired but also as if Mop, RTL and AJFA never happened.

Crown of the Barbed Wire is the 'odd' Metallica song they occasionally do. I'm talking about Manunkined, The House Jack Built type,
This is surprisingly interesting. I wouldn't rate this as good as the the highs of both Hardwired or 72S but this is a cool song.
Gritty James vocals, odd, moody breakdown, melodic solo, attitude and somehow heavy ending.
One thing I immediately noticed is that my liking is a bit different than most of the reviews except Inamorata which got an almsot universal praise.

I still think Sleepwalk is this albums ManUnKind. Great intro but absolute stinker of a tune. The only song on the album I don’t like. Im already skipping it.

Sleepwalk is pretty groovy. I kind of dig it. To me Crown of Barbed Wire is the weakest track.

Sleepwalk is my least favorite here, but i still like it better than the worst of Hardwired. I'm not the biggest fan of the title track... sounds a bit like Spit but not as good. Room of Mirrors is okay, gets saved by those awesome guitar harmonies. Inamorata is a good song, but the obscene amount of praise is a bit weird considering it takes about 5 minutes to get to the good stuff.

The middle section of Inamorata has such My friend of misery throwback vibes, it gives me chills. I even love the hi hat rhythm Lars is doing as it’s pretty much the exact same.
This album is killer.
Rob’s doing a meet and greet today in Berlin!
Gonna head down try to meet him 🤘

Hah, I just watched the If Darkness Had A Son performance on Jimmy Kimmel... They shortened it here and there and it's way better that way! Felt like way too abrupt an ending. I prefer the full version. Sounds super chunky in the live half step down tuning too. I think it’s going to be a great live song.

Alot of these songs have a Lords of Summer/Death is Not the End demo vibe and could use some editing imo.

It seems like Crown is the biggest point of divisiveness. I’m still loving it, it might even be in my top 3.
Sleepwalk is definitely the weakest one, even though I wanted to love it with that intro.

So far I'd say Too Far Gone works best as a cohesive song and is the one I've gone back to for repeated plays so far, out of the non-singles.

Okay then. Wow 😳 WTF? First thoughts on the new stuff, and album. that was quite a ride. I love 72 as the opener. Shadows Follow had me grinning. It gave me a big King Diamond vibe, which I loved. SS still one of my favorite of the singles. Track 4 wtf was that? I did not like it much. Cringy. You Must Burn. Started off kind of boring, I was losing interest, then it started to get going and I really got into it. Very interesting 🤔 Lux is great and was much needed right here on the album and I feel was written and put there just for that break. Crown of Barbwire was okay. It made me think of if Limp Bizkit made Lulu instead of Metallica. Chasing Light I think I liked, it was the one with the cool power metal sounding vocals on the chorus, if it is that one it was cool. IDHAS I was not a fan of it, it's okay, but in the album sequence it works and sounded much better. Too far gone was awesome Room of Mirrors was awesome Inamorata... Ok, am I crazy, this was a couple of Metallicas best writing ever surround by absolute cringy trash. Like what the fuck was that nonsense? I was just in awe at how the whole build up of the song was. I do not understand why people are gaga on it. It sounded to me like the "Hate me now" part of AWMH or some shity St Anger cringefest. And I almost started laughing when James got all soft it was so bad. The little bass moment sounds like some 15 year olds playing in their basement. I was horrified up until around then, but then it finally started to get interesting and glorious, but after all that good section, kind of went back to crap. I do not get the hype for this one at all. Most of it sounded like some crappy Billy Ray Cyrus song or something. But the good part was amazing. Did it really needs to be 11:11 long 😂 could have been an amazing 6-7 minutes. Other thoughts that popped up in my head here and there while listening. One point it sounded like Toni Iommi and Jimi Hendrix where playing an Iron Maiden song. Lots of desperation, and fleeting sanity throughout the album but in a very good way. The punky stuff is fantastic and sounds killer. Lots of Merciful Fate vibes scattered throughout the album. One song sounded a bit too motorcycle bar for me but was alright. James sounds like a broken man in an amazing way, and a fucking beastly god at other parts throughout the album. Some parts were so heavy and Doomy I was stunned. But, there were a few moments when the Sabbath sound was to direct riff from Iron Man or War Pigs or whatever, like straight up rip off/tribute territory. Am I happy this morning. Fuck yeah. Had track 4 been axed and replaced with a ballady type song and Inamorata been severely trimmed, this could have been the best album ever, far better than HWTSD.
