The road-relevant technology argument was always a porky managers sold to their boards as an excuse to go racing... today's withdrawal by Honda just another example.

well i guess that puts to bed the idea of alphatauri eventually becoming a honda works team :p
LMP1 and what will come after, supergt before dtm got involved* and formula e are where it is at for the road relevant technology and marketing. i love the sport but formula one serves literally no purpose.
*actuallly, in fairness, supergt still has such a highly developed and intense tyre war that it probably does feed back to road technology - cars often running different versions of tyres, depending on which driver is taking the stint. extraordinary.

also, funnily enough, honda/HPD have been more vocal about their interest in NASCAR over the past week or so. the budgets probably come from different pots but still, it's coincidental timing - and it'd be fucking hilarious for a manufacturer to drop formula one to fund a stock car programme

a bahrain-mclaren bidon got trapped under the wheels of ineos-grenadier rider geraint thomas in yesterday's giro d'italia, causing him to crash (in the neutral area too) and he is now too injured to continue...
...the mercedes vs mclaren partnership taking a sharp and antagonisitic turn! hopefully they sort themselves out for danny ric's arrival! :p
(3 favourites already out of this race, a 4th lost a fair amount of time yesterday...i'm going to keep my mouth shut because my pick is still doing well )

Seems it will be cold but no rain :( hoenstly with hamilton's wet form since 2015 especially, that may be a blessing...
we could still get a 1999 or 2011 or 2013!

I can just tell there's absolutely nothing to this except that waste of human space Bolsonaro blowing smoke up people's arses, but...does that have a feckin' 90 degree corner linking an S section with a back straight? :| www.pitpass.com/68195/A-storm-brewing-in-Brazil

they're going to make the fiasco of indycar going to the nelson piquet track in brasilia (2015, i think?) look exceptionally well organised and smooth, aren't they?
bolsonaro is a piece of shit and carey is a moron for doing what he's done - say what you want but bernie wasn't often caught looking like an idiot (and when he was, he was always rich enough to get out of trouble...)
the fuck would you want to leave interlagos for anyway. it's like the only good track left. building some tilke-drome/mid-level chinese city's WTCC/go-kart track to race at instead is not a fucking accomplishment on carey's part

No running for Ilott and Cheat Jr. now, I assume. right enough, you'd think so.
although, if they were taking grosjean and kimi's cars, they could maybe take the risk on those two remembering their way around the track and run ilott and msc 2.0 in FP2 :p

who has previously done an F1 race at the ring?
kimi perez bottas vettel hamilton grosjean ricciardo
is that who we have left from 2009/2011/2013?
i'm assuming that everyone has raced there before though, either in formula renault 3.5/world series or european/german formula 3.

it's actually staggering how the FIA (via the WEC, in fairness) have managed to fuck up one of the best categories of racing there has been really since the late 1990s (GT1, super tourers, CART...)
maybe DTM should have considered going down the prototype route, you could've saved two series at once then...

hulkenberg pulling a di resta and standing in for an unwell lance stroll for the grand prix
so add his name to the list of drivers who have already tackled the ring!
perez x hulkenberg, in a racing point, is definitely a top three line up - and with seb's current form, maybe second only to the merc line up. hopefully they have a strong weekend!

he's trash, finished, a waste, the luca badoer of 2020 :p
all things considered, he did as well as he could i suppose. if he keeps his head down and avoids trouble i think he could still put in a performance that might help him for next year!

that leclerc fella seems quite good :p
albon seems to be a driver that is always going to be five tenths off verstappen - i can't tell if i am impressed by his appearence here or not: neither have driven the ring in an F1 car before, albon last raced here in 2016 i think, verstappen is also one of/the best open wheel driver of his generation so being near him on a new track isn't awful...

Yeah, great qualifying from Sharl indeed. Albon is not as hopeless in the race as Pierre was last year, which is good, but the amount he loses in qualifying is very worrying. It's not sustainable to be continually starting from behind where the car should be.

It's not sustainable to be continually starting from behind where the car should be. aye, it isn't so much of an issue if he's starting only the row as verstappen or just behind (as he willl be tomorrow) but it's problematic when he's several places behind verstappen. albon has issues with his starts too which doesn't do him any favours either.
i think they could do much worse than keeping albon on next year, since the regs if not the cars will be identical. at the very least he deserves a seat at toro ross: last week's decision diminishes yuki tsunoda's leverage quite a bit, i think albon's fundamentally better than gasly and kvyat. who he would replace is really up to them - tost adores kvyat and gasly has already shown himself not to fit in with red bull racing as a team as well as on track but of the two but at the faenza team, gasly seems the better.
they'd be daft not to at least make enquiries into perez and hulk, maybeeven magnussen, to act as at least stop gap for 2021 if they wanted to change direction or to keep their options open for the new regulations.

Albon retired with radiator damage, it really seemed the equivalent of a football manager taking a player off so he won't get a red card
