Fuck I wish formula one came back to the city to coincide with the supercars. The Adelaide F1 was amazing, I miss it so much

Would be awesome mate.
I'm thinking any opportunity the SA govt has to replace the V8 500 party event with the F1 GP and handball the V8 circus over to The Bend, would be taken and run with immediately. In these weird times, I could totally see that happening

Still a lot of questions about Doritos and is Matthews in with money too or is it like a consulting partner?
They are making it seem as if the Williamses (sp?) would have continued if they wanted to, but that's probably pointless to speculate about now...

williamses seems right, i think?
it's certainly a strange situation but one that will surely work itself out/make itself known. it surprised me that the williams family would be removed so quickly but if doritos were going to get rid of them, i suppose it's better to do it sooner rather than later. we'll just have to see.
there's been a lot of reflection (and speculation) re claire's legacy with the team. the 2012 car, with a stronger line up, could've finshed 6th or even 5th in the championship i think (had they signed raikkonen...), unfortunatley the first car of clair's tenure was a shambles aerodynamically - very, very low rake and suffering from low downforce but high drag, tried a clever concept like the rest of the renault teams which ended up closer to caterham than red bull and lotus. they were fortunate that the first 3 years of the new regs were a pure engine formula and the merc engine kept the team in the top half of the championship and scoring podiums semi-regularly (the 2015 british grand prix perhaps should've been bottas' first win). the regs switched back to being more aero-focused and they then signed the, thought of as, best technical director in F1 and soon found themselves bottom of the constructors table after fielding cars allergic to downforce and packaged about as well as my sock drawer (which is to say, poorly). i don't know how much that reflects upon claire: she was the (deputy) team principle and so obviously the buck stops with her but at the same time, frank never really left the picture, and the team had really been in decline since 1996 (again, it was the being de facto renault's factory team/then BMW's engine + villenueve/montoya/ralf being motivated that flattered them); they were a midfield team from 2005-onwards with a midfield engine (cosworth then toyota then cosworth) though rosberg had a hell of a season in 2009; the team's been short of cash for, i suspect, longer than we think; the sam michaels project failed before claire arrived, paddy lowe failed while she was there: maybe the organisation needed to change years ago and this is only it happening now?

Seeing how fickle BMW became with Sauber, maybe it wasn't so bad...
And in absolutely non-shocking news, 8 fucking tenths to the nearest car... :|

BRING BACK ONE LAP QUALIFYING also put hulk back in that renault, ocon is clueless. also fire everyone's strategists. who couldn't have seen this happening. Seeing how fickle BMW became with Sauber, maybe it wasn't so bad... And in absolutely non-shocking news, 8 fucking tenths to the nearest car... :| didn't peter sauber end up making a net profit after buying the team back after 2009? before going to lose a lot more money...

If McLaren hadn't immediately announced a replacement, you bet Sainz would be pulling a Button :P

I didn't see your post there, same idea But I'm with it, keep Dan at Renault and prevent the return of Teflonso.

i'm still a fan of alonso but i'm feeling no excitement for his return. the 2022 alpine renault might be great but in 2021 he's going to be touring about in the midfield as if that isn't what he spent most of 2008-2018 doing anyway..,exciting.
he's still quick and he's got name value but i'm sceptical that he'll win another title and i'd much rather see him trying something new - take up indycar fulltime, do super gt, have a go in touring cars or something - go have fun instead.

albon or kvyat getting punted for the weekend? gio/magnussen/grosjean having a holiday in faro instead? :p

Probably just a demo lap of some kind?

this is one of their first big scoops, so i'm guessing that there is something to the story, but whether it's a demo lap, a run in FP1 or a grand prix is up in the air.
the default thought people, and i, seem to have is that it'll be with toro rosso or even red bull but i don't know if he's still a red bull affiliated driver: he's not had red bull iconography on his helmet in formula e or the WEC whereas buemi and hartley still do (buemi is red bull and alpha tauri's official stand in, iirc, but needs his super licence renewed). i was being facetious earlier but depending on what he wants, i think he could be a prime candidate for a seat with haas, alfa or aston martin if he wanted to throw his hat in and could maybe bring sponsorship.
there might be a super licence issue - BMW were a bit off in GTE pro last year and andretti had a poor formula e season in 2017-18 - but he's on track to get the sufficient points through his LMP2 campaign this year. it wouldn't help him for the portuguese grand prix, mind, but an appearence in FP1 might help with that.

He has for the last couple seasons always emphasised in interviews he has switched off from F1 completely. And it is believable because he has a pretty straightforward character, dunno what would change now. And he has no links to Red Bull since 2015 and a sour relationship with Marko, apparently. (He refused to release Antonio for a Ferrari role in 2014).

(He refused to release Antonio for a Ferrari role in 2014). thank you for the clarification! i remember him being a bit annoyed that kvyat jumped him for the toro rosso seat in 2014 but i hadn't realised that he'd tried to make a jump to ferrari (presumably taking kobayashi's test/reserve and GTE role?). respect to him for seemingly closing off F1 for a while and focusing on having a real career in racing - can't help but think also after hartley's stint with STR, after being dropped, he'd be heisitant to return too.
i'm a big fan of his. he's been very tenacious throughout his career and landed factory seats with BMW and DS/citroen/peugeot/whatever, he's a world champion, respected prototype driver, good for him!

aye, no idea why they decided just to push the car down the pitlane
it's certainly things interesting now - this is a full on indycar kind of caution situation :p

i made a comparison to a caution afflicted indycar race earlier but actually this has an indycar short oval vibe, with sainz (and stroll) starting to close in on the leader at the end, lots of draft breaking happening, very high anxiety etc
