I would love to have the album as an instrumental version only. I wonder if it's possible to strip the vocals?

You can in audio software by splitting the stereo tracks into two left right tracks, and then panning them in the opposite direction. It will sound like shit though and you will still hear the vocals very faintly behind everything, but it gives you an idea. Did that with some lulu tracks and posted on the old boards way back when.

Just look at how effortless and calm is this dude in the video above spamming double bass and cymbals and compare it to this: It's cool to say 'wow Lars is on fire here wow' but short and quick double bass and he looks like he just finished marathon. Sure, but you also have no idea how long they had been recording in the studio that day when that take was done. The reason that guy can spam all that shit is because everything is close together on his kit, he has the stamina, and he's using triggers up the ass so he doesn't have to work the bass drum beaters as hard. These blast beat guys who go one million beats per minute have the stamina, they don't really need to hit hard, which Lars does and if you look in the video you showed he is laying into the fucker like to no tomorrow. That exerts way more energy than that dude sitting with good posture and having aids like triggers and having his toms, snare, and cymbals closer together so he doesn't have to reach as far and expend the energy to reach those cymbals fast enough. Not saying Lars probably should do some more muscle training. It's good that he gets his massages and runs, but at his age, he might just need to get back on cocaine. Just sayin'.

Kirk just did a live Facebook interview. He says he's overcompensating for his lost iPhone and already has about 500 "ideas".
Take that as you will.

Went to the show on the 24th, Atlas comes over much better live than on the album.

Lars could quite easily just chill and play the songs, but I think he's also a showman. I've played drums at gig and look like a statue because I was so self-conscious, I admire the way he puts everything into it and entertains people. Except for when he overplays the slower ballad songs.

Showmanship doesn't do it for me anymore. Play the damn music in time. First fundamental of being a musician. Insert showmanship when possible.

Is it controversial to say I like Spit Out the Bone more than Damage Inc. and Dyers Eve? Because I do.

It's so fucking annoying that probably the only professional drummer in the world with no discipline happens to be the drummer from the only band I really fucking love

Is it controversial to say I like Spit Out the Bone more than Damage Inc. and Dyers Eve? Because I do. Just listened to the album version of Spit, and fuck it. I agree. The production probably helps it immensely, but it feels melodic and fresh in a way Metallica thrashers haven't really sounded before. Blackened probably comes the closest to that, but it has the benefit of having the slower middle section to help it. It's admittedly a bit long in the middle bit, but I love it regardless. Spit honestly was the biggest surprise of the album for me. Well, it and Halo. Spit is more surprising in a "I can't believe they've still got it" way but I still think Halo is a goddamn masterpiece, frankly. Both of them kind of play with a tired formula and do something new and exciting with it (Metallica "ballad" and Metallica album closing thrasher, basically) and I think that's a big part of the reason why I like the pair so much.

I think Halo was the biggest surprise on the album for me. I really don't think it follows any sort of Metallica formula, and is a lot different than any of their other ballad-y songs so far. As soon as it went into the Remember Tomorrow-esque beat in the verse I was like WOAH.
