"Lords of Summer" is as middle of the road as it gets. Overly long with bland, pedestrian riffing.

Lords of Summer is better than at least 4 songs on Hardwired.
My unpopular opinion.

Agreed, Zalman.
I think lately I spend the least amount of time as a hardcore "consumer" of Metallica stuff.... listening to them, watching stuff on youtube like MoT, interviews etc.... than at any point since I got fully on board 10 years ago. Watched Blackened from Detroit earlier and a Lars interview and realised I don't really do this anymore.
Anyone else lost a bit of enthusiasm? Maybe that's down to the harsh realities of the working life....long fucking days

My enthusiasm has its ups and downs. Some days and periods of time I can watch videos and interviews all day and can't get enough. Usually this is leading up to a release or show. Afterwards though, my enthusiasm dies down until the next ride comes along.

It's so strange that it's happened within months of them releasing an awesome new album

I've recently got back into listening to the old stuff. That comes around for me every few years. For some reason I'm into Bellz more than I usually ever was.

It's so strange that it's happened within months of them releasing an awesome new album We are all just burn out after years of following them. This tour cycle there is really nothing to get excited about. We know what James is going to say, we know what song is next, livemet edits out pretty much all of the mistakes now so there is no real character to any of the shows. It's just Metallica on auto-pilot for the time being. It's boring.

They need to get the Puppets remaster out there, that would reignite the spark for me.
The hype around the Kill/Ride release, both the lead up and the months after, was much more exciting and interesting than Hardwired's was.

I haven't even heard the remasters in full, I couldn't care less about stuff from 30 years ago. I never listen to any of the first 4 albums, only live versions. The extra material is somewhat interesting but I haven't even heard that

The extra material is somewhat interesting but I haven't even heard that Yeah I was like that too until I got the box set vinyl remasters. That brought Kill and Ride back into regular rotation, but mainly it was the books, all the live bootlegs that I'd never listened to or explored before that I loved. I was never much interested in that era of the band before (apart from the albums), so it was awesome to discover something new. They were great packages, with so much content and I can't wait for them to do the next lot of albums. For me, the prospect of getting the Puppets/Black/Load remaster boxsets is so much more exciting and appealing than the band bringing the seemingly stale greatest hits/Hardwired tour here to Australia. Which is funny, coz from 2011 when everyone was wanting a new album and more stuff from the band, all I wanted was for them to tour here so I could see them live a lot more times. They already released the music I loved, and I wanted to keep seeing them play it live!

It feels like they are hoping everyone forgets about the remaster deluxe sets. I think the first 2 where so much more work then they anticipated that just the thought of doing the rest, plus having to deal with Newsted, has put the whole Deluxe sets on hold indefinitely.

I hope you're wrong! I just don't think they have the resources to work on the box sets at the moment, since they're fully independent now, everyone will be managing the tour/press etc...

Me too. I'm really curious to see how the rest turn out. Wonder if Garage is going to get the treatment, or if St Anger will get fixing.

Never noticed the funny little trolleys that those big drums are wheeled out on I'm not sure why but they make the drum thing even more ridiculous. They remind me of those kids trolleys full of plastic building blocks

I wonder who's ideas the drums were? James created metallica family so i'm guessing it's him again.

Kirkadon (Kik) has been phoning in his performance for years now, he's more interested in horror memorabilia these days (i've heard).

They should let him write the whole next album. He has brought some of the most memorable Metallica riffs to the table, and his lyrics are decent.

I doubt Kirk could write a good album on his own. He's barely hanging in there with the solos too.
He was probably more interested in surfing, and gazing into his horror collectibles.

Yeah just because he's had a few great ideas in the past doesn't mean he should write a whole album.
