What you've all been waiting for...
So, because of traffic I got to hear the whole of Disc 2 tonight....and fuck me I wish I hadn't. It's all over the place. Every song has some parts of it that are amazing but there's just too much shit that goes with it.
Confusion is great for 3 mins then there's a riff change and it goes all weird and never recovers. ManUnkind wasn't good but suddenly got really melodic and catchy once the weird beat stuff ended, but then it all came back again and ruined it.....Revenge is great....Savage was ok....Murder One and Spit were as amazing as they've always been. I love Murder's intro into the cymbals and then the guitar kicks in with that quite strange but awesome riff. Headlights fading is glorious.
Overall, not an enjoyable driving experience. Disc 1 gave me that cliche of cruising down the highway in the sun with the windows down without a care in the world. Disc 2 was actually quite annoying (because it's so inconsistent), even with the sun shining and window down.
Conclusion: Disc 1 plus Revenge, Murder and Spit could have been up there with the black album - concise with no weak song, Revenge would have been weakest but it's still fucking awesome. Get rid of Confusion, ManUn and Savage because despite their great moments the overall songs aren't good. The decision making of this band is very poor at times.
Thanks for letting me vent. Tune in for my views on the same piece of music yet again in a month's time when my views inevitable change 8-)

yeah i really like revenge too. the chorus could be a lot better but its a fun song, a crowd pleaser live too methinks.

Yup, no problems with Revenge here either. I love the spooky creepiness going on during the verses, very Thorn Within ish. The song has many familiar elements to it that made me feel like I already knew it the first time I heard it. That gnarly, twangy riff still sounds like the Shadows of the cross riff before it turned into ANL. Some Hell and Back in there as well.
Great song, floats somewhere in the middle for me compared to the other songs, depends on my mood.
