DM sounds so horrible to me though. Can't listen to it. It never used it to bother me, but after hearing everyone piss and moan about it for 8 years i notice the over distortion. Metallica really need to go back to the studio and sort it out. |

I've personally come to terms with the fact that I just don't like the DM production and nothing can save it for me. I just don't like the way the MfiT version sounds even if it's miles better than the original CD. Some of the alternate versions out there sound decent but I feel like there's only so much you can do with the Guitar Hero stems considering a lot of the problems I have with the sound are down to how each individual instrument was recorded.

I had no idea it was ever released, but then again I kinda stopped obsessing over finding the best-sounding version of DM after MfiT came out and I realized it doesn't really matter in the end lol. It's still the same music, and better production only gets you so far.

Got a new job that has a 45 min commute.....put on Hardwired disc 1 for the drive home tonight and fuck me it was the most I've ever enjoyed it, and I have loved it since it came out. Lars was right with the "car test" - and I think the first few months I listened to be picky, but this evening I just listened and fuck it was a masterpiece.
The Atlas chorus snare didn't bother me, I wasn't comparing Kirk to his younger days, the toms in the opening of Dead didn't last for 5 hours like it used to. Metallica is the only band I love so much that what they do has to be torn apart and analysed, but when you get past that and listen just to enjoy it, it's all so much better.
Can't wait for tomorrow's commute now. Will disc 2 be as enjoyable? Tune in tomorrow night to find out my thoughts EXCLUSIVELY on metBBboards.
