That performance of Blackened had to be one of the most unenthusiastic I've seen. Het, Kirk and Rob just stood there completely stationary. James voice was shot and had no power in it. Talk about being on autopilot. Battery was a bit better, but I really wish they would stop the "are you alive?" thing in and play the amazing Middle section. It's been like 18 years of this FFS. I know they brought it back in 2006/07 which gave me unfounded hope for the future. Looks like they were having sound problems during Blackened. James keeps trying to adjust his in-ears and plays those weird chord hangs before entering the chorus. Still a really boring performance though. I've noticed if the boys stick to a standard set list they often do the auto-pilot thing. It happened during the TTN shows as well. Hopefully the arena tour gets them going energy wise.

Yeah agree completely.
It's like all the life and energy has been sucked out of their live shows. They're so overly choreographed, from song transitions to what James says to the crowd, to the practically identical set lists. It reminds me of the late 90s.
I was going to say that it's reminiscent of the Through The Never shows based on how they playing all sorts of songs in the tuning room, basically anything but the songs they play on stage.
They seem pretty bored, and fancy screens and pyro don't do well to hide it.

I'm happy I saw them on the first show of the stadium tour, they were still "new" to the production and the energy was there. It was better than the DM show I went to. I knew the stadium shows would be like this, they always are. At least they are jamming on DM songs and Through the Never in the tuning room, so I'm sure the arena tour will have a lot of variety.

Blackened was horrible, battery much better, but still only decent. I can't understand how they are able to hold a song like Battery together so "well", throughout the entire song the guitars and drums are off. They readjust at every crash and 2 seconds later they are all way off again. I'm both impressed and disappointed at the same time.

You're right, Battery is really funny to listen to sometimes. Het starts the riff at a certain tempo, Lars comes in and it all goes to shit, by the time the vocals start the instruments are somehow back in time with each other until the solo section where it all goes to shit again, Het struggles through the last verse then the outro is ALWAYS all over the place, it's been this way since about 2003 haha

And those of us who have tried playing in a band knows how fucking hard it is to keep everything together if one person goes off. This sounds like they are playing the same song, but they are all playing at different tempos. I would have fucked either instrument up playing it like that. So yeah in a way it's impressive. Try being Kirk, or doing vocals when Lars constantly just hits the crash halfway through a bar because he speeds up and down like a drunk Alan exiting the pub after 10 hours.

I know Hetfield has been out of rehab and has calmed down for the most part and got more chill, but his patience level with Lars when his tempo goes up and down every night is amazing. I really do think even though he tries to have good stamina, he tires out depending on the setlist. Like that Blackened video, I think at that point, even if it was early in the set, he seems either tired or he thought to himself "I need to relax here, I have like 10 more songs to go".

I thought that performance of Battery was super solid, honestly. No energy in either video, especially Blackened, but I can't hear the slop you guys are referring to. The guitars and drums in Battery are two different time signatures though, so it always sounds a little bit off live because of all of the syncopation, but it even has a touch of that in the studio. If you go and listen to the studio version with a more critical ear you'll be able to hear it.

Funniest tuning room in a while. Everyone bashing on Lars. When did they all bash on Lars? The St. Anger comments. Just some simple jabs. It's good to see them having fun. I wonder what the camera guy is doing there and why they were mentioning Spotify.

Fine, that's fine! This is our first communication in like six years since you abruptly took your clothes and your penis and left without telling me, and you choose to not give specifics?! How about you just asleep in the garage that you never finished building tonight, Steel, you fat cunt.

Tomorrow's show in Montreal has been relocated and I don't think anyone really knows. Now its part of this crazy metal beach party and wrestling thing 30 minutes by foot from the old location. Its on an island so a lot of people will most likely miss the last train at 1:00 and get stranded if they can't figure out how to navigate their way off the island.
This will be epic lol.
So many unknowns right now. The only way I found out was by sleuthing around with some members on the other boards after some conflicting maps and seating charts where put out there. So many people are going to show up at the regular site, only to be redirected to the new spot by foot. This is going to mess up a lot of people's plans. All that water and all those drunk people... Stay tuned for more chaos from Montreal.

Same metro station, but, the old site where they were supposed to play, there seems to be construction going on. The entrance to the old site is steps away from the metro exit. I've seen Metallica there in 2014 and 2003 and its the go to location for all huge outdoor shows for the past 20 years or so.
Now because of construction, the show was relocated onto the adjacent island.
Now you need to walk a a good 35 minutes from the metro exit, over a bridge, past a casino, through a beautiful nature park, out onto the Circuit Jacques Villeneuve race track and out towards this man-made beach area.
The problem is, at all other events prior at the old location, the one and only metro station off the island has a 2 hour line up just to get in as 75000 people are all trying to get on. A lot of times it was a close call to missing that last train at 1:00 AM. A lot of people do.
Now add a 30-45 minute walk, maybe longer if your wasted and trying to find your way back through a maze of ponds and nature park paths. That's a lot more people, now kind of stuck on the island.there are ways off by foot if your smart and no where to grab some foot bridges. I plan on walking one of these routes for about 2 hours to get back to downtown on Montreal island. I'll be with my friends and it'll be an adventure. I'll be in the Snakepit and apparently they don't let you out of it until like 15 minutes after the show has ended, there's no way I could catch that last train, so fuck it, I'll walk it.
The start of the day will have all these people showing up and being baffled by the big arrows pointing them down to what looks like nowhere and the wrong site.
People looking to show up for whatever time will now have 45 minutes extra of confusion and walking time.
At the new site, starting at 1 until 4, its the metal beach party on the man-made beach for all Metallica ticket holders. There will be wrestling, contests, bands playing, lots of beer etc.

The lower part of this picture shows you where the stage will be set up, where all that concrete is. They apparently mowed down a bunch of trees to make space.
That little sphere structure in the top right is the Biosphere and is right next to the metro. Gives you an idea.

It's water.
I thought the same about the size but I checked Google satellite images to compare to the old site which is right next to that beige building structure to the left of the biosphere. Apparently this place is bigger.
It will be odd though because it is a race track, I have been there many times, and the landscape is all hilly and stuff, in a race track sort of way. Maybe they levelled it?

Harvester always has and always will be one of their greatest live songs, and one of my favourites. Could have done without the Kill Em All style squeal before the solo though.

I hate that little run kirk does after the solo usually ends leading up to the harmony bit. Love the song.
Its a beautiful day today. Just woke up. I hope I get to take a good crap this morning before heading out to the show.
