I'm disappointed we never got any "making of" videos for 72S.

I'm disappointed we never got any "making of" videos for 72S. I still think they're coming, Sara Killion's 72S interview mentioned cameras rolling. The 2024 shows around me aren't selling too well at the moment so they might be holding on to some content to promote the tickets.

Just flicking thru some of the stuff. Looks like there is another Ramones track they covered that I've not seen or heard of.......Go Mental. Since they still released some of those covers, I can't imagine how bad Go Mental was.

Bit like the Motorhead stuff. Good fun and more promotion of their roots.

And there seems to have been a leftover song (a ballad) off 72S, according to the producer from his So What! interview.

I saw they posted St Anger anniversary stuff on the Metallica black box site. Particularly James’ Riff tapes from 2000-2001. It’s just pictures of the tapes but have they said if they will release the audio of the tapes?

It’s just pictures of the tapes but have they said if they will release the audio of the tapes? Those riffs will most likely be included in the St. Anger deluxe box set. I wish St. Anger, DM, Hardwired, and 72S got their respective box sets prepared and released before the ones for Load, ReLoad, Garage, and S&M as there is little to no outtakes/unreleased songs to showcase in the latter ones. Regarding St. Anger, to me understanding, the process seemed to be divided intro 3 parts (or 2 if you will): - The Presidio sessions (when Jason left and prior to James going into rehab, late 2000, early 2001): mid tempo, melodc, experimental stuff. - Early to mid 2002, James was back from rehab: revisiting The Presidio and writing new stuff at the same time. - Mid 2002 to early 2003: they had just set up HQ; James started writing lots of stuff from scratch; they felt the album should be more aggressive and faster.

This is an awesome analysis. I hope the future box set will help piece together what was recorded where and when. The Unnamed Feeling changes so drastically sonically during the song that it could be different places and different years.

Thanks for the thorough explanation! It's fascinating listening to any of James' riff tapes, let's you peak into his creative process. I wonder how much begging Lars has to do for James to release his riff tapes, since they're kinda intimate. It's also very cool how they've been able to save all of this stuff over a long period of time. I

I swear this hi-hat count thing Lars does everywhere now is making him forget how to play the drums.

Well well well, if it isn't the worst and best things to come from the St. Anger era all in one post.
I love that cover to death.

Too Far Gone from MetLife will be released as a single tomorrow. I wonder if a live album or deluxe disc is in the works.

I wonder if we'll see some kind of release (EP?; the Loads box set?) in early 2024; there's a "long" gap between mid Nov '23 and late May '24, when they respectiveñly finish this year's leg and start next year's. Or some one-off shows?

My buddy made me laugh after seeing the cinema shows. He's a drummer and he said to me "I get stressed out watching Lars drum". I know what he means, I felt like that watching Kirk for awhile there too. Like its all about to unravel and fall apart

Reminds me of the by request tour when Frayed Ends was coming up and we were all waiting for that fill. It was what, the 3rd playthrough that he actually nailed. Everyone was so happy for the one millisecond🤣

Like its all about to unravel and fall apart Lars gets tired during the show (and makes mistakes), i noticed that the last time i saw them on the HW tour.

I wish Metallica's current albums sounded that good... Especially the drums. Warm sound, all instruments and vocals well balanced...
