Shoot Me Again is probably my favorite off the album, or easily in the top 3. The pay off at the end makes me want to break things.

I feel like I'm going crazy because I'm on a St. Anger kick and actually enjoying it. Shoot me again, I ain't dead yet! Well, it IS a good album. Yes, some songs overstay their welcome and could benefit from a little trimming here and there. But otherwise... It's good stuff!

It's crazy how distinctly different Metallica sounds now versus the DM era now that we're so far from it.

I think we figured it out earlier but Kirk confirms he wrote "the fast riff" in 72 Seasons around the 12-minute mark.

My schedule opened up so I'm gonna catch the Texas livestream tonight, it's only 5 minutes from my house! The tech side of my brain is curious what a livestream straight to a theater is going to sound like in the first place.

Funny how tonight sort of was the same experience as my real shows. The first 4 song chunk was the highlight, and the tightest. Best mix too, when Lars switched drums, the mix fell apart a little. My crowd loved King Nothing and Hardwired more than any song.

Ah yeah, good point We are heading out in about 90 minutes to watch. Had a 2a.m-er last night and a big family get together (wifes side) today. I stayed off the beers, preservation mode. These cinema shows are the best we get down here so want to enjoy it 100%

I think this is the tightest the band has sounded in a long time, Harvester and King Nothing were perfect to my ears.

Mix was bit shit initially. Hard to hear guitars, lots of lars and bass, but it got better. The cinema cranked it too, which was great once the mix was sorted. Too Far Gone was great to see but it loses momentum a bit live, prob due to relying on Rob to do those backing vox Would have prefered any song other than Hardwired from that album but overall I had an awesome night. Agree that the show beats Lars around a bit by the end...I really enjoyed watching him play up close, big screen, supercrisp picture. I am encouraging my oldest boy to join us Monday for Night 2

When the graphics during songs are displayed on the tower screens, do those same graphics get overlayed on the live shots you are watching? Or is it basic camera live shots like you are sitting on the stage or whatever?

There wasnt as many of those pre-song intros as I expected - at one point, going by youtube vids, it looked like this happened every 2nd song. You can pick most songs by these intro mixes, although there was one on Sunday Night that made me think Damage Inc was about to be played. Definitely had those bass swells from the Damage intro but unfortunately wasnt to be. (wasnt really surprised they didnt play it, but you can always hope)

From memory, they only do intro tapes to start each quarter of the set now (songs 5, 9, 13), and then like one other time for a couple songs if they’re in the set (I think Day, Clover, Roam?).
I’m gonna try to keep track of it tonight. But yeah for the last couple years they got extremely tape heavy. It’s ~tapered~ back for sure 🙃

Just got back from the second cinema night. Boy it was rough. Doesn’t make sense to broadcast a show from USA where the crowds are non existing. 120.000 apparently didn’t know Roam. Wtf. First time I’ve heard that ending too, would have sounded massive in Europe.
Other thoughts.
- The aound shifted from song to song. If you didn’t know the faster stuff you would have no clue what was being played. Slower songs like Bells sounded HUGE. Amazing bass drum sound on those.
- Kirk and Robs doodle was extremely cringey
- Rob being “carried” through the crowd on some platform thing was also pretty bad. Leave that stuff to Rammstein where gimmicks like that works
- There were so many mistakes that I stopped trying to notice them, but it was impossible. I think this is the first time I really felt that they cannot control the fast stuff anymore. They were not anyway near the pocket, they weren’t even in the same pair of pants. Which makes me a little sad. It’s understandable though, I wouldn’t wanna try and play Ride, Whiplash etc with my mates at age 60. Actually it’s pretty impressive that they can more or less keep up in 2+ hours.
- The energy dropped sooo fast when they played Dirty Window, and it was completely gone through 72 seasons and Darkness. You can straight out tell that James doesn’t understand why the crowd is not going nuts for Darkness. That one does not translate well live.
- Burn does that in spades though. The crowd was really into it. Until they completely screwed up and left out an entire section. They played only that section afterwards and laughed it off 😂 Highlight of the show for sure.
- Kirk played rather good I think. Although he once again missed basically the whole Fade solo. I have no idea what he played but it sounded pretty good to be fair
- Rob sounded quite impressive at times, but mostly he sounded like himself.
- Lars is barely hanging in there, I love is energy and he surprised me a few times. The fast stuff is getting hard on him
- James sounded. A little thin. His rhythm was tight though, but that was to be expected.
- The stage. I still hate it. And for sure the great distance between them at times are making room for extra errors.
All in all a decent night where the guy with the hardest job once again was the sound tech.

I agree with most of that KImbo. The Rob/Kirk thing was time wasting crap..even the announcing that its a one-off just for you..something like that doesnt need an introduciton and explanation, just muck around and wait for the acoustic to be set up. Had a laugh when You Must Burn started falling apart. You could see James in the background looking over at Rob and Kirk who is already at the solo. He was lost but they kept moving forward, funny how the big error was a highlight. Stage sucks. Agree that the big distances aren't helping them. Looks odd seeing a band member playing 1.2km away from the other, but on the flipside, lots of the night they are close to whatever kit is being used and 3/4 of the floor crowd are nowhere near any band member. The start of the show looks awesome with the 8 towers and lighting. Looks like spaceships landing. Cinema volume wasn't as loud as Night 1. Someone must have got told off, or people complained they couldnt hear Barbie in Cinema 4 properly. Lastly, for a tour of 2 nights, no repeats, it is still quite easy to pick most of whats going to be played. The days of surprises are well and truly gone. You aren't walking in and being surprised by a Devils Dance or End of the Line. Dirty Window was probably the closest to that and thats OK because I like that St Anger track. Still a way better night than sitting at home.
