What do you want them to do? What do you want them to do if they write a song/album which takes years and years to finish? Not release/finish it 'cause it takes too long according to the fans? According to anyone, I think 8 years and counting is too much between albums. I would be ashamed to be in a huge band that has millions(?) of people waiting and it would take this long. Alright (I agree about it being too long), but I still wonder about the things I asked you about in the quote. What do you want them to do if they write a song/album which takes years and years to finish?

Apart from anything I find it insane that a band that has it's own rehearsal / recording studio and jams every night on tour haven't written and recorded an hour's worth of music in 8 years.
How do they jam a riff they're all excited about ? Catalogue it and come back to it 2 years later ? How do you know it'll still sound good 2 years later ?
That's the head scratcher to me. That they don't jam a riff and go " that's killer ! let's write that into a song ASAP ".
When I was in a band - If someone had a riff we were all excited about - we could not *wait* to get together and jam it / make a song out of it. . .

Because they are old, rich, fat assholes who don't give two shits about their fans anymore?
Well, I don't know if that's exactly true... Maybe.

It's funny, some days I can get really mad about the lack of new material (like I was the other day) but today I'm alright with it. I'm looking forward to it for sure, but I don't really "need" it. My life is pretty cool without new Metallica music as it is. They should do whatever they want and I'm glad they do, I'm sure I will scream like a little girl whenever the new album drops though

Would you rather see that they stop writing new music since it takes too long for them to finish it according to many fans?

Simple explanation comes from Porcupine Tree's song "The Sound of Muzak" The music of rebellion
Makes you want to rage

For what it's worth, I really don't think nostalgia is as good as it used to be

I understand both sides of the argument. I think the biggest reason people are upset is because they have been talking about recording for so long and it just hasn't happened until now. They were riding such a high wave after the release of DM and James was doing interviews saying they want to get records out faster. That was in what, 2012 I believe? I also have enjoyed the touring and all the rarities we have gotten so if that's what they want to end up doing after the new album is dropped it's all good. Just don't get peoples hopes up only to make them wait for what seems like an eternity.
My best memories have been some of the stream threads and things of that nature, but it can only hold my interest for so long before it gets a little stale. Maybe just releasing a few songs here and there and not recording an album after the new one is the path they should take. It would keep people excited with the band and shouldn't be that much work for them. The album process is just too much for them at this point and if they are not happy doing it what's the point? Everything they do always comes off as way more complicated than it needs to be and it's a shame. I'm just hoping we get something at least on par with DM and then they say "that's enough albums, from here on out we will tour whenever we feel like it and just celebrate the bands history". The sad part is no matter how good the new album may be, it's only going to get shit on because it took so long.

I don't know... If writing 10 tracks in almost as many years is too much, just quit. They have no desire to quit and want to release new music on their own time frame. So why should they quit exactly? Because if Metallica don't do things the way way I want them to be done, then fuck them and tall they stand for. I mean, they owe me. I paid for their lifestyle so I demand new music every 38 seconds. Those selfish fucks with their own schedule and needs. Assholes. Don't they know the world revolvers around ME and MY needs. Douchebags.

Also add that towards the end he seems to be speaking in a way that suggests all of his bass work is finished.
