Because some people seem to be either a) Incredibly lazy b) Deliberately trolling Anyway. Here's proof they are recording. No press speculation, this is direct from the band themselves. A post from May on Metallica.com stating " here is proof positive that the band has BEGUN THE PROCESS of making a new long-playing collection of music, which we will henceforth refer to as “an album.” Of course, the truth is that this process started some while back, the band having been recording bits of riffery and rhyme for a few years, with the sifting process having taken place for the last year or so. Which has brought us to this. Yup, those demos are shaping up nicely. Wonder when they'll get to recording the actual album?

Lars has been saying since 2011/2 that they have been recording lol.

How is this even defending Metallica? It's just a post stating factual information about the bands progress. Nothing about whether the length of time between albums is justified.

this next album is so important for Metallica, I think it will make or break the band. Its has to be so awsome and great that everyone is like ''who cares about the wait, it was worth it.'' If the album is pure shit, everyone will get on their cases and I think they may just call it a day.
I would be happy if every couple of years they just release a new cover album and stop song writing all together (if the new album is shit).
I really really hope this album blows everyone away with its awsomness, I don't want Metallica to go.

I don't have much faith in 2016 release (hope I'm wrong ofc), but everyday we're a step closer. Lots of steps though!

I'm getting nearer and nearer to the point where I don't even care anymore. Sure, I'm going to listen to the new album when(ever) it comes out, but... Through the years, I've grown bored with Metallica's shit. I sure hope that the upcoming album will kick me in the face and show me how wrong I was to doubt them.

Finally someone who shares my thoughts about the current situation... Yet you're both here.... What does that say about you ? Maybe it says that we both like what Metallica have done in the past and like to discuss about that, while at the same time keep an eye on what they're doing now. Is that wrong? OR, we haven't got anything better to do... is this true, Mr. HR?

They have done nothing of any substance since Garage Inc.. I'm not holding out for anything other than a token release LoS stylee... that was listened to about 10 times tops.

I'm expecting an album in the style of DM/BM which is fine. Not sure we'll get another masterpiece in the vein of MOP/TBA again.

There's an interview (probably held in Dec or Jan) with Lars in the new German Rock Hard magazine. Nice read...
A few tidbits (but nothing too exciting or new):
no short songs (very vague here, though) still not decided if LOS will make the album they record more songs than just for the album 2016 release looks very good from AJFA on studio outtakes, similar to the Zepplin re-releases, exist Presidio stuff will most likely be part of SA re-release they were a little disappointed that there were not more obscure choices at the Request-shows...will probably do something similar again in smaller venues Full Arsenal stage will be used again in the future
^ Quote from the Metallica Forum.

I just wanted to post the article here, too but I see it's already done ;)
I wasn't exspecting that LOS is still an album option but maybe it's a pretty different song now...

Come on guys, LOS isn't that bad. I listened to it the other day, considering its a demo, and was thrown together for that tour, its decent. Needs some work and better lyrics but its still better then a bunch of other Metallica songs.
