What happened to Checo and Seb?yellow flag or bad second lap? checo seemed to struggle a little on the mediums, just seems like a bad lap though. which is fine, he isn't renowned as a qualifer anyway plus starting 11th didn't seem to stop him back in 2012 (different starting tyre regs, in fairness) or when he won sakhir from the back! marko covered for him saying it was a mistake on their end but checho states that it was his error.
seb got caught out by the second mazeSPIN and the yellow. he doesn't seem happy with the car but how much of that is bahrain specific we'll have to see. szafnauer already threw him under the bus by saying that "we ran the car stiff last year and it worked out", so that was kind of him,
utterly mental. if the aero gains are what they seem to be and ducati have found some last gains in the engine, 370km/h in the slipstream could be on the cards at mugello. insane speeds.

so that was a pretty decent race eh. great finale.
also remarkable how tight the field is. despite being miles off the pace, haas still only one lap down/less than two laps down.

That was a very very decent race. Lots of battles, highlighting just how dumb it is to have three overpowered DRS zones.

i didn't realise it had started! how is it looking? The time trial quali was pretty decent. The time penalties seem a bit OP, but I'm sure they will eventually adjust. Still a few technological/mechanical issues, but so far so good. Let's see how the race side by side bit is. Rosberg seems to have picked the best driver combo.

Rosberg seems to have picked the best driver combo. that rosberg team looks scary good to me. i like the look of the sainz/sanz team too, even is carlos is maybe a little closer to 60 nowadays he still has pace. never seen sanz off road on a car but i know that she is a phenomenal motorcyclist and she's decent endurance car racer (though what crossover that has to this i don't know).

maybe a daft question but do you know if there will be fans in attendance at either the motorcycle grand prix next week or the formula one grand prix on the 30th, forgotten in space? marquez making a return next week too after 8.5 months off the bike and i believe still yet to ride a full motogp prototype (though he's ridden the road legal version of the honda). i'm sceptical but we'll have to see. if he comes back and doesn't struggle, i hope that he isn't OP as before because the last season of motogp was the most excited i've been in racing for ages.

Last month they said no, but now some guy from the Tourism Office of the Algarve said negotiations are still open :| Negotiations? Should be the call of the health authorities and that's that. Especially since the Algarve is the riskier region atm.

mad respect to george russell for trying to force mercedes' hand by wrecking both works drivers within a lap, blaming both of them "i was just trying to help lewis!" and "bottas was x, y or z" depending on the interview, and making what was already a sour relationship with both drivers now toxic at a time when toto and the board have some big decisions to make!
i like russell a lot and i do think that he is one of the best drivers on the grid atm... when things are going smooth for him. sakhir wasn't his fault and he was going to win that race but this was another race with points lost for williams and another race in which, in the heat of battle, he has lost his head and made some seriously big and stupid mistakes. this one, potentially, having championship implications at the front and back of the grid - williams will beat haas most weeks but unless latifi finds huge form, if george keeps throwing results away through impatience and recklessness, all it takes is mick or mazepin landing an extra 11th spot in a wacky race the williams boy crashed themselves out of to take 9th in the constructors championship.
dismal day for big sergio - and for bartman who put a cheeky bet on him.

Comrade Kimi and Vettel given massive penalties for technicalities and Checo a slap on the wrist for overtaking under SC...can't believe the team didn't tell him to move back immediately :|
Amateur hour everywhere, and once more that daft rule giving the lap back to backmarkers. Lewis is the best driver on the grid but he deserved nothing today.

sitting on it a few days, i cannot think of a race in which 3/4s of the field were so bad. norris was great, verstappen and stroll were strong as per in the wet, leclerc could have had a shot was his radio working (and masi wasn't changing things on the fly). tonio and pierre were no better or worse than usual but the field at large was so bad. even drivers that had strong performances had some major blots - sainz had mega pace but kept trying to replicate his dad on the gravel.
hamilton throwing the race at turn 1,from pole, and his impatience while lapping, is a sign at least that the battle for the championship will be tasty if red bull keep the pace up.
ricciardo i expect will be mega by monaco.
stewarding, as said above, was a fucking joke the other day.

algarve this weekend...it should be exciting. hamilton wins. i reckon perez will look very competitive though.
motogp at jerez again, interesting to see how marc marquez rides here. he was absolutely savage there last year before his crash that sent him into orbit, i think he won't be repeating that kind of ride again but he evidently still has pace and is more sensible than before - nascar-esque bump draft into joan mir aside. speaking of, eager to see how the champ continues to consolidate his title defence here as well. huge weekend for both yamaha riders, both factory ducatis and johann zarco.

lewis hamilton is driving at such a heavenly and transcendent level right. he's like an angel of speed. i can't even be mad.
ricciardo is going to have to figure out how to drive the mclaren quick. on the other side of the garage, lando looks like he's driving himself into a considerably more fruitful and long formula one career than perhaps a lot of people (myself very much included) could ever have imagined.

patricio o'ward is to be offered a formula one test if he can win a race for mclaren in indycar this year. currently 11 laps to go at texas and he's 1.5s ahead of newgarden.
i forgot that at mclaren, the formula one and indycar drivers are encouraged to view each other and to compete as team mates. i'm sure this news is plenty exciting to ricciardo too...

How good is O'Ward? Maybe if he was canuck or murikan and we still had Bernie he would definitely manoeuvre to have a NA champ on the grid... funnily enough, him being mexican is a big reason why indycar/penske want to keep him in the states...
i think that o'ward is the real deal. no idea what red bull were playing at, sticking him in one GP2 meeting at the A1 ring (where i believe he'd never previously raced) and then immediately dropped him the weekend after because his results were not "satisfactory". looked really good in super formula, the few races he had, and finished in the points once or twice. he was immediately impressive in indycar has been towards the top in almost every race he's had (brief sojourn with carlin aside - but even then there more than flashed of brilliance).
indycar is not formula one ofc - especially not the ovals - but the boy has no fear racing will power, scott dixon, sato and rahal on the ovals and making decisive passes on the left-right courses when he needs to. he's far better than his team mate, felix rosenqvist, imo because he makes far far fewer mistakes. if i'm a boss in F1, i would definitely keep a close eye on him and colton herta for the future. newgarden was a big miss i think (although, he's a driver that definitely needed a few extra years of development - which he got with ed carpenter/sarah fisher in indycar), conor daly could've been something in europe too and alexander rossi is a very top level driver that was wasted at caterham/marussia/manor all of those years. i don't mind if they stay and build careers in indycar but o'ward and herta are definitely good enough for the F1 field atm (and could jump in to an alfa, haas, williams, aston and maybe alphatauri and do no worse than those currently in those seats, gasly maybe aside).
