Doctor Evil airquotes "cycling accident" like his 2015 testing accident and undisclosed "injury" (ie let magnussen go to australia and break down en route to the grid rather than do it himself)
in all honesty mate i think that renault might be mega this year. not red bull or mercedes mega but i think 3rd in the championship is there for the taking if alonso is up to speed and ocon has good days.

of the cars launched thus far, it definitely seems to be the most developed - which is good because if there's a team that needs it, it is alfa. if the aero developments are anyway decent and ferrari have found space to improve their engine (i amn't sure what is allowed though) they might be quite a bit closer to the back of the midfield.
haas are going to need a miracle/undergo a profound understanding of the car they've struggled with for two years to have a hope of not finishing last.

l'scuderia in the news yesterday: first is that they are returning to prototype racing for the first time in i think 20 years. new hypercar regs means that they can design something that looks like a ferrari rather than a fighter jet plus with the new F1 budget rulesmeans they can redeploy staff to that project rather than let them go (and there'd be a fair amount of R&D crossover too...). when they opted not to go for indycar, this news felt inevitable. interesting to see them back - and who will drive for them (i think they try to pinch kobayashi, buemi or conway from toyota; hulk will be on the list; perez and kvyat also i could see them make a play for from the F1 bubble; button...) second, and related to F1, mika salo has been havering and leaking to the media again. apparently part of their punishment for the super engine is that they were given less fuel to use last season and that this year, while i might not be a wholly new engine, they are allowed to use it to full power and presumably with the same fuel as the others. www.planetf1.com/news/ferrari-punished-cheating-scandal/mika says a lot of things but he generally seems to be right - he legitimately seems to not give a fuck. so ferrari might be closer to the front next season and alfa might be competing with the alpha tauri at least.

Ferrari kept supplying cars for these categories even without being an entrant, or am I way off? Hulk seems a no-brainer. Honda straight up said theirs was a new engine, same for Ferrari? I must have missed it/not cared enough to remember :P

I must have missed it/not cared enough to remember :P ferrari had factory and privateer GT entries but has been absent from prototype racing since the late '90s. there's been low level rumours of them having designed various LMP cars over the years but nothing has materialised until now. other than formula one, all of their racing projects have been based on road dervied vehicles.
hulk is a huge shout i think. he's already won le mans (albeit perhaps being the weakest of his team), ferrari have already shown interest in him several times so unless mercedes come calling (or another manufacturer) i think that's a good spot for him.
aye, ferrari wouldn't have been happy with the engine freeze from next year if they weren't confident either in the super engine of 2018-19 now being legal or if they didn't have something entirely new designed. if true, hell of a reprive for haas and hopefully sharl and carlos will be up with the mercs and bulls this year.

welp honda's factory supported driver has lost his seat in BTCC with the team citibg funding issues. hope we're all looking forward to our motorsport future of schumachers, hapsburgs, billionaire children and mid-00s stars/'10s rejects that landed in formula e at the right time

i actually like the haas livery. "america's formula one team" having a car livery covered in russian flags is also funny as fuck to me.
jordan and benetton look fucking tidy. mercedes looks awful towards the back, an all black + petronas greenblue livery would look so much smarter.

Fair enough if you like it, but why did they do the flag four times? Wing, nose, side and near the back. :| Yeah, the front and side of the Mercedes with the Petronas strip looks ace, then the rear is like that horse drawing meme.

Wing, nose, side and near the back. :| Yeah, the front and side of the Mercedes with the Petronas strip looks ace, then the rear is like that horse drawing meme. i suppose maybe for the sake of continuity/as a recurring theme. i remember a few years ago, dale coyne racing in indycar ran a similarish livery and though it was lacking in imagination it got to the point (the link fresh in my mind as young pietro fittipaldi is returning to the team to run the oval races that grosjean won't as well as having a seat at haas).
i just hope that williams have something nice because at the rear of the field will be one white car with red bits one with less red bits and some blue bits. if williams stay as they were last year, that's just a white car with some blue bits. someone needs to spice up the rear of the field ala forti or minardi with the telefonica sponsorship or arrows with orange.
