hulk 0.7 off stroll but looking decent still, used less sets of tyres too.
albon is looking pacey which is good. second, enough of a gap to verstappen, hopefully he shines this weekend.

Having said all that about Mercedes, I think I still prefer them getting the title over Max at this point :p

LANCE STROLL P1 TODAY;LANCE STROLL P1 TOMORROW; LANCE STROLL WINNER OF THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX Oh god no He'll have that bored teenager vibe he always has, he'll probably be fiddling with his phone in the middle of the podium ceremony.

LANCE STROLL P1 TODAY;LANCE STROLL P1 TOMORROW; LANCE STROLL WINNER OF THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX Oh god no He'll have that bored teenager vibe he always has, he'll probably be fiddling with his phone in the middle of the podium ceremony. i've read enough articles and podcasts to know that at this point...it is obvious that lawrence is more interested in lance becoming a champion than lance is.
i suppose max verstappen is much the same, it just happes that he is insanely talented within.
i like kevin magnussen and jan. the elder one has literally zero interest in the younger one's career, and he still made it - despite having to resort to a career as a welder when the pay days ran out.
i appreciate that his nationality helped a lot, given that ron dennis was leading the team at this point, but kevin magnussen at least made it as an adult relatively on his own.

today's, quite depressing tbh, big bold bart prediction is that the lead merc will be + 0.6s ahead of the next lead car (i am guessing hulk or stroll).
when mercedes don't lead on friday, and indeed look potentially off the pace, it usually means they've got a rocket that'll take the piss out of the field.
i hope to be wrong!

BTCC at donington today. race two to start at 13:30...the grand prix is to start at 14:10-14:12... if the race is a bit excited and chaotic, as BTCC is wont to be (especially at donington); let's just say that they are cutting it fine! would be interested to see the television rating shifts from ITV4 to channel 4 (both are on terrestrial television ) after race 1 at donington, once the F1 build-up starts and after race 2.

dan ticktum is so so good. i know that there are a million marks against his name or whatever but he is good. once a space opens up at williams, i'd love for them to take a chance on him or jack aitken (or employ paul di resta again )

And the Shwartzman kid? Fast-tracked to a Sauber seat?
Just watched an interview with him, friendly guy, but definitely looks more 14 than 20 :p

yep, hulk would probably have been better off just continuing going to the nurburgring on thursday night :p
if perez is still in quarantine next week he'll get another go at least but how luckless can you be?
And the Shwartzman kid? Fast-tracked to a Sauber seat? Just watched an interview with him, friendly guy, but definitely looks more 14 than 20 :p i like him a lot! like you, i don't believe that he's not a teenager but that's by the by. '
if gio doesn't improve throughout the season i could see him being a good shout for sauber. the competition is tough, even if you take out vettel and hulk who could be sniffing around, between illiot, alesi jr, schumacher jr and that kiwi guy. one of the fittipaldi boys, the one in F3, is a ferrari driver too.
shwartzman is easily my pick of that bunch though.

also this is why we used to have T-CARS/RESERVE CARS!!!!
fucking ridiculous that they don't have spares. i understand that nowadays it is particularly difficult with the power units and whatnot but this is so shit, in 2020

If Albon gets the kiss of death from Marko and Kvyat outperformed comfortably by Gasly, RB might need two drivers soon :p
With a crap aerodynamically car, Red Bull should conceivably alter the philosophy and get an experienced driver next to Max.

there was a comparison of last year's pole lap with this year's and its remarkable how little turn in hamilton needed this year vs last year round luffield If Albon gets the kiss of death from Marko and Kvyat outperformed comfortably by Gasly, RB might need two drivers soon :p With a crap aerodynamically car, Red Bull should conceivably alter the philosophy and get an experienced driver next to Max. in spite of everything over the past few years, i am surprised that they ruled out trying to sign vettel. i realise that the driver is less relevant in car development these days but surely you'd want somebody with more than a year of formula one experience in a car that should easily be the second best in the championship every year - particularly if you find yourself in a bind like thet have found themselves this year.
looking at motogp, the honda bike has been a struggle for a few years now and if it wasn't for marquez being a genius (and more than willing to risk his life), they'd be comfortably fighting with KTM and the satellite ducatis for 10th position and an occasional 5th or 6th, not on a 4 championship run. had his injury actually been career threatening and they had to put the other nakagami in with the other marquez, they'd have some fine results but, with two riders for whom the bike fundamentally doesn't work for and a reluctance to change the philosophy, they'll get no consistent results.
raikkonen to red bull 2021!!
(i switched to the mini challenge from donington for a few minutes there, i see i missed nothing from the grand prix :P)

i amn't going to pile on lance stroll because i believe that this is a poor day for him, rather than a regular day but why is a 2019 mercedes only in the points by 5 seconds and is almost a minute off the lead?
he's looking well off the pace now - that alphatauri made it look almost like a multi-class race - so i'm assuming it's some kind of problem?

bit concerning all of these tyre issues today - very fortunate that it was only kvyat who had a real off.

Mixed feelings about the tyre situation. Pirelli did say the fastest sim strategy was a two-stopper, are the teams just too used to the conservation formula and getting too greedy with the "stop once, go slow and preserve tyres to the max and keep track position" mentality? Or is Pirelli fucking up?
I'd still take this over supersofts lasting a whole race and not giving us even a theoretical window for split strategies like we saw years ago.
