Kirk seems to have massive problems with staying in time during the solos. He's all over the fucking place...

Yeah it's getting really bad. It's almost like he doesn't even care about timing, just wants to rush through the whole thing as fast as possible.

Pretty sure Moderus and I both lost a bet with each other. Or both just lost altogether. That was awful. We did? Yeah, some silly thing over the summer on the Judas boards as to where Lars would punt the kick runs. He punted all of them as far as I could hear.

It doesn't because he still has to play the riffs which is 95% of the song for him. And he seems to do that fine.

Are they going to keep Spit in the encore in the future, or is this just gonna be a thing for the current leg? I kinda hope it's permanent, I'd love to hear it but maybe not to the point that I'd be willing to lose out on something really cool like Dream No More in exchange. It might be too straining for them to do in the long run, though.
On a related note, I kinda wish they'd rotate NTWD out, honestly. The drum solo thing adds nothing to the song and as it stands it's overlong and lacks a real highlight. Dream should get a permanent slot instead. Or hell, add that slot to the rotation too, down the line they'll probably have all the new songs coming in and out so it'd equalize the airtime between the songs a bit more.

It's too bad they don't play Bleeding Me anymore, as that would be a good trans into NEM

They're about to have a 3 month break. I guess they'll be focusing on the remasters during this time. Would be great if they took Kirk's 500 new riffs and recorded a song or 2.

Some random thoughts on the Manchester show last night.
- Not a fan of the cover song slot (as I stated elsewhere at some point), so I just hoped it'd be one that I enjoy. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, as I've never liked "Stone Cold Crazy". Thankfully, it's a relatively short song. - Of the new songs, I thought "Moth Into Flame" and "Now That We're Dead" worked the best (despite the shitty drum thing in the latter). - "ManUNKind" didn't work well. Probably the song that generated the least energy from the crowd. Would've liked "Confusion" in this slot. - "Spit Out the Bone", decent song but the mid section is far too messy and I don't think that part translates well live. Otherwise it was quite good, but I'd have rather have had "Fight Fire with Fire" in that slot. - I was hoping for "Of Wolf and Man", and they obliged. Very happy with that, as well as "Day" and "Creeping Death" in their respective slots. - This was my third Metallica show, and the first time I've heard Lars do the double bass in "One" right (from what I can recall at least). - James' voice was hit and miss. Seemed very high at times (almost like he had inhaled a small quantity of helium). Seemed to be when he went to a certain mic/area of the stage, I've no idea if that'd have an impact or not. - James' solo in "Nothing Else Matters" was a mess, don't know if it was a technical problem but it was just noise, could barely make out any notes. - Kirk was pretty solid overall, can't remember any errors from him (though I'm not the most observant in this regard, admittedly). - "Sad But True"... the studio version generally bores me to tears but live it's a different proposition. Monstrous.

My thoughts from Manchester:
The old cliche rings true even with 8 shows under my belt, the band are powerful beyond belief and you really do feel like you're being kicked in the chest.
James and Kirk dueling in Atlas right in front of me, almost as if it was a private show, felt like a privilege
The drums in Dead aren't as lame live but still not amazing either - pretty cool for a minute but makes Dead go on way too long
Spit was incredible
Wolf got one of the biggest pops and was one of the best live performances of theirs I've seen, possibly my favourite song of the night
Lars fucking ruined Nothing with his overplaying to the point where I had my head in my hands at one point
Great moment where Kirk and Rob jammed Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis, as a tribute to Manchester. I felt the love!
The reason Sad is a staple is because the crowd were fucking rocking during it, one of the highlights of the night
ManUnkind should be deleted
The lighting during Creep was spectacular
There was a point where Kirk seemed horribly out of tune or something just wasn't right, James spoke something into the mic that wasn't part of the song, which could have been him commenting on the problem. Can't remember what song though...anyone know?
Think I'm at the point now where live shows don't have quite the same magic they used to, but it's still a fucking awesome night and an honour to watch them play music live. The kings are still on their throne as far as I'm concerned.
Round 2 in Birmingham tomorrow!!

The solo is constantly a beat or two ahead of the song. This time was so bad, though, that it started to throw the rest of the band off a bit at the end. I was surprised they kept it together that long though, because it was SO off. The first performance is now the best one so far, unbelievably. And when I saw that I was like "oh they're a little shakey for the first time, the next one will be much better".

And when I saw that I was like "oh they're a little shakey for the first time, the next one will be much better". :( After the first time where they probably were really concentrated on getting everything (/most of it) right I'm thinking they felt more relaxed when playing it again and that they fucked up because of that. There's a point where you can be relaxed and play a song really good or probably even better, but they're not close to there yet with Spit out the bone since it's a bit of a tricky song and that they've only played it a few times so far.

TWJYL also never came anywhere near the debut version again :( I believe that counts for Cyanide too if I remember correctly.

Cyanide they started playing the intro at 150% speed for some reason, and it got super sloppy.
Side bar, I miss TWJYL :(
