Eh...I don't get the hype for this. Fade sounds identical to any performance from the last 5-10 years, maybe it's a bit slower. If anything the vocals are weak and out of key in moments. God dammit... This happens so often. They play some random show, people shit their pants, "Het has never sounded better than the 90's bla bla bla" Then you get all excited, until you hear it and gets utterly disappointed. I'm even less interested in this now. Was the same thing with the Glastonbury show.

I went into listening to it with no expectations, but they really have brought down the tempo of everything a few clicks and it makes a huge difference. Creep sounds 10x better than it has in the last 10 years. Hmm and then I'm mildly interested again

Battery is nearly Load-era tempo too. I think this is beginning of the inevitable tempo slowdown for the guys, and I'm totally here for it considering how much they've sped through the setlist for the last decade.

I don't think I've ever heard original tempo in second half of Fade. Is this first time since like Load era or something? And about Het's vocals, he goes for a softer tone, that's why I liked it. I hope he will try it in Unforgiven too.

You guys also got to keep in mind that they aren't in front of a large audience, so maybe that has to do with their tempo. Not pumped up by the crowd might make them just ease back a bit on the tempo. I don't know about you but if thousands of people were chanting "Master" at me I would play faster out of pure excitement.
...or Lars is just getting older.

I’d agree but comparing Howard Stern 2020 to Howard Stern 2013 also yields the same tempo changes. Same audience, same format.

Yeah, I think that's a conscious tempo change, just like they did in the Load era, rather than just variance introduced by a lack of adrenaline. I like it, they sound much tighter (Lars especially, his Fade chorus fills are even on time now!) and they've spent so long playing everything a bit too fast that it's nice to get the opposite for once. Plus, they're getting old, let's face it. I'm sure most fans would prefer a few extra years of longevity over a faster tempo.
The part I'm most curious about is set length. This one comes in at a nice just under two hours minus all the live speeches between songs with 16 songs in the set. Was this just for the sake of not making the live video run overlong or are they planning on shortening their sets in the future?

Listening to a bit of the show. James' voice isn't particularly strong, but it's refreshing hearing them slow down the songs. It's different, in a good way.

I thought this when they had that string of 15 song sets after HTSD came out, but then the normal set length came back for the tour. I don't see them bringing back a shorter set as much as I see them selectively down-tuning a couple of songs to D, adding an instrumental slot mid-set in addition to the doodles, playing longer guitar/bass solos, etc.
I said this in another thread at some point but I can also see them bringing back the acoustic mini-set down the road. They've done more acoustic stuff in the last couple of years than they have since the Load-era. Even having that one acoustic AWMH on a major release was a huge deal imo

What I'm excited about, I know a lot of fans will be upset by, is how heavy the new albums will be if they continue for that long. I want to hear them do some Sabbath style albums. I honestly think the way James writes riffs and how the rest of band is playing nowadays, that will be some pretty good shit. When I first hear Dream No More, I immediately wanted them to do shit like that. Honestly, I can care less if they don't do another thrash album. They probably shouldn't anyways, but just go fucking heavy.

I also remember saying, around the time that Ronnie Rising was released, that that was the style of tune I was hoping for. That style of groove and riff is right in their wheelhouse.

I want them to instead of going back to the 80's - mid 90's go back to the mindset of the late 90's and write that No leaf clover/-Human/I disappear album they never did.

I’m feeling a weird blend of overwhelmed and sentimental right now because of a lot of huge changes in my my life happening right now (nothing bad, just a lot of new), so not 100% where this is coming from.
But I’m extremely grateful for this forum and the people who have stuck around for the last 10 years for providing some great conversation and a friendly environment to talk about my favorite band in. Even though I have a ton of great and musical friends, I don’t have a single Metallica fan as a friend in real life, so it’s been (and will continue to be) awesome to have that outlet in MetBB. Thanks y’all

I like Ronnie... there I said it. Bluesy Metallica stuff is cool. I've always loved it. Great song. The 'there I said it song' from that album is probably Poor Twisted Me. I like it. Let's face it, they'd do more stuff like Ronnie if it was safer for them to do it. Wish they'd play it live, just once, and record/upload it in good quality. At least do an acoustic version, which I'm surprised they haven't.

I think they played the beginning of that in tuning room in 2019. Surprisingly, James remembers it pretty well.

I think the real reason they haven't played Ronnie in any way yet, is really that the subject matter became way more common and deadly after the song came out.

The only song I actively dislike from Load is Cure. Absolute cookie cutter example of their sound from that album. PTM and Ronnie get way too much hate.

Cure is ok. The verses remind me too much of AIC, sort of like a sped up Man in the box in feel, but the uncross your arms part and chorus is cool. Still better than 90% of Reload. I never skip it, but I also never seek it.

A chick in the same M&G I went to requested Ronnie to James and he brought it up in the tuning room that night saying that it had been requested again....so others have asked to hear it also. 10 years have passed since.
I love PTM too, one of my favourites on the album actually.

Some people on the official forums seem to get upset if somedody insists on knowing about the new album. Spider Dan, the mod, is one of them. It's ok if you discuss merchandising or S&M 2 or the box sets ad nauseam. Lol.
