Alan you playing Dirt 4? You should be. Nope, is it any good then? Very good! If you like clenching you butt for three minutes at a time while going 80 through a gravel path in the woods, it's your game. I've been having tons of fun with it.

I think it's really been sinking in this year, since it's been a decade, that Half Life is dead. :'(
Also apparently Valve has gotten rid of all story writing employees. That says it all.

Yeah they probably make more money on a good day from other peoples games on Steam than they would from HL3 so it'd be a lot of effort for no good business reason. It'd have to be a passion project, and I'm not sure there's enough people still there who care enough. Either that, or they'd need a big game to sell a new product/technology (like HL2 requiring Steam and pushing realistic physics). VR would be the most obvious current avenue, but it doesn't have the userbase to warrant a game of that scale.

Well, I'm sure they are going to keep making games, as they have. Just ones that aren't story driven. They've made a Source Engine 2, so it's not like they aren't gonna be making games anymore. They are just more interested in the online game-DLC-micro transaction model (CSGO, DOTA 2) than story, single player games.
It's silly though, because it's not like they can't afford to have a team working on that kind of thing. There is money there. 'HL3' is a long running, see it everywhere, internet meme. There is a product demand there they aren't even bothering to meet. I wonder, maybe they like the free advertisement, via a meme, for their brand, for long as that lasts. Big game companies have multiple dev teams. There is no excuse.
Just one more damn game, and wrap the series up ffs. It's the principle of the matter. It's what made them what they are, and why Steam ever took off in the first place. Poor consumer appreciation/appeasement.

Yeah they'll make games, just not big scale, big budget single player ones. Unless, like I said, they have technology to push or a team gets very passionate about something. There is demand, like you said, and it would make money, but to put it in perspective Half-Life 2 has made them somewhere between 300-500 million in 10 years. That's Steam's revenue in a month (probably more now cos I only found 2015 data). So where's the incentive to put together a hundred+ person team, 50-100 million and 2-3 years of work to make the same amount they make by just existing as a store across a month or two? It'd have to be some mega creative urge to put something like that in motion, unconcerned with effort and profit. I'd like to believe that creativity still exists and they're not purely profit driven, but they haven't proved it in a while outside of games that exist to bring in monthly revenue from microtransactions.

They should remaster Portal 1 & 2. I'd totally buy those. ....... Umm. Why? What's wrong with them? They aren't even that old, and still look really nice. They're pretty much perfect first-person games. Why don't you just buy the originals and have a fucking great time?

Long stupid story ahead -
So I just paid $400 to order a refurbished (cleaned and polished), Sega Mega Drive original model, with a whole bunch of mods for the ultimate experience - over clocking to 10MHz, RCA outputs for maximum video and audio clarity, Region Switching, PAL/NTSC switching, Cartridge slot widening for Japanese cartridge support, a colour correcting circuit and multicoloured LED. I can't wait for it to arrive!
I also ordered an EverDrive to allow me to play ROMS via an SD card before I decide if I want to start collecting real games. I'm a little hestitant about this, because I could literally find any Sega game ROM in existence and play it via the EverDrive, which gets rid of all the value of actually owning a real game and getting the most out of it. I'd love to just buy real cartridges as I see them and build up a collection of my favourite games or gamed that I missed out on playing as a kid, but at the same time, they are now at the point where they are really expensive...so it seems like a waste of money. We'll see how it goes.
I grew up with the Mega Drive, and went on a retro kick a few years ago and re-bought a console with a bunch of games I used to own as a kid and a couple of aftermarket controllers. It was a shitty experience with the cheap controllers, shitty RF inputs, etc...so it went in the cubboard for 5 years until I sold it. Recently I've been watching a whole bunch of retro gaming videos on YouTube and it's gotten me back into it. I researched it properly this time which I'm why I'm going with the model and mods above.
If you don't already think this is ridiculous, get this - the company supplying the console for me and doing the mods had their website offline for a few days. They have an eBay store with different models on there, and a Facebook page with an email address. So I emailed them about what I wanted to see if they had stock and if the mods I wanted were possible. While I waited for their response and for their website to come back online to place my order, I got impatient. So I went and purchased a mega drive from a pawn shop, got it home and it wasn't working properly. So I took it apart, cleaned out 25 years worth of dust and grime. Fucked around with manual tuning on my TV. Turns out I bought an NTSC/American game with it instead of a PAL one. So I went to a different pawn shop and bought MK2 for $40. I then went on eBay and I ordered a bunch of cables and shit to get stereo working, etc... After all that, the company responded to my email saying they have plenty of stock and can do everything for me. So now I'll have two MegaDrives, just because I couldn't wait. Classic me.

I'm playing Tron: Evolution (7 years old). Most reviews like the graphics but complain that everything is in neon blue/orange/green It is Tron, what did they expect? Stupid reviewers are stupid. The game is not at all as bad as they make it out to be. I like it for what it is.

X-Post!So a bunch of Nintendo switches became available in my area for the normal retail price of 299 yesterday morning. I set a price alert and got the notification while I was at work and thought "sweet, imma get a switch today!" It was at almost every Best Buy and a couple of Walmarts, plenty of stock and I was sure I was gonna get one FINALLY! I had planned to go pick one up on my lunch break which was only a couple of hours after I got the notification. Weeeeellllllll.....that shit sold out at every store in the vicinity LONG before I got a break for lunch. Anyway, I saw it was available at Amazon too so I decided to check that out and lo and behold they had some, with next day shipping even! So I ordered one at the 299 price but for some reason my $8 next day shipping equates to 5 days from now.........still, at least I'll have it by next week I guess. I also got a used copy of the zelda game (like new, pristine condition apparently) for like 10 dollars off the retail price. So ill finally get to see what all this zelda hubub is about! It looks like I brought it in time too because when I checked amazon a few hours later there were only 4 left in stock and they were each almost 400 dollars!

So I've been playing Breath of the Wild for a little over a week now. It's so fucking goooooood! It's so good it should be fattening and I'm just getting started! I just flew down off the starting area and after a couple days of playing, just made it into the first town. There's just so much to do in the game!
