Hetfield back in rehab. Aus/NZ tour postponed.

To cancel a tour it must be bad. Really shocking considering how strong Het appeared publicly when talking about his addictions and recovery.

Some logistics to work out on a more selfish note... I’ve dropped a fair chunk of coin on this tour.

Its OK to be selfish - a quick calc says I've put around $8k into this so far.

Not pleased.
THen there's the headfuck when new dates are announced and my Leave balance says no. 
And I cant see myself travelling around twice.

It’s pretty big if they are saying all tickets will be refunded. It’s not like its even rescheduled. It’s cancelled and they hope to come back someday.

Such shitty news. Hope he gets the help he needs. Kinda odd to hear considering how he treated Kirk during the Hardwired promo.

He was visibly and vocally upset about Kirk not being around while recording Hardwired.

It just sucks all around. For you guys that dropped tons of money, time and energy, and seeing that James has fallen off the wagon. Yeah, he did seem uncomfortable in the whiskey videos. Not so much like he wanted them, more that he didn't know how to feel about promoting them. Always very silent and back-seat.

Either way, as was said, it must be pretty serious for them to cancel a tour. James notoriously hates not fulfilling his obligations, so this must be necessary.

To be fair... Kirk dropped the ball on that one. 

Money. 

Actor Danny Trejo has been sober for many decades. Has a bar chain and named branded beer. 

Granted, just because you are sober doesn't mean that you have to be preachy and anti alcohol. But, it's still a bit odd to sell it under your name. It's almost like a vegan selling meat. And, especially when you already have plenty of money. Money is a motherfucker. There is clearly never enough. Never enough when you don't have it. Never enough when you have more than enough. Something in the human brain. We are evolved from people who barely had anything for the vast majority of human existence. Greed is survival.

Just a note to the opinion that Metallica selling alcohol could have led to this....

Let’s not forget that his first stint in rehab also listed “other addictions”. We don’t know it’s booze, it could be something else. Also as others have pointed out, you can abstain from something whilst working in that arena. It’s not ideal but it’s an individual choice.

On topic: I hope he gets the help he needs and is able to return. But not to Metallica, just to the world.

Looking through some of the FB and IG comments, the ones that say “we need you” or “the world needs you” etc get under my skin. We know part of his issues has always been the hero worship attached to his life and how much he resists that (hence his decision to stop attending the free meet and greets). That’s a huge weight on ones shoulders to feel that people you’ve never even met ‘need’ you; that somehow their lives would be negatively impacted if he wasn’t “in” them. I think people should realise that and wish him well for HIM not for some selfish reason.

I want him to get better and healthier. For him and his family. Not so I can have more records. If this is it, then that’s fine with me. He’s given me enough over the 31 years I’ve been a fan.

What makes it worse is that it has to be so public. Others fall of the wagon and can climb back on in private. He doesn’t get that choice.

Yeah, I hope there is a no internet policy wherever he ended up.

What a mind fuck. Poor guy. I just pray that it was his choice and no one had to drag him there or anything.

I guess it just goes to show that you can never assume anything.
