So I'm gonna be in the snake pit in a few days. Anyone who has experience and got a clue how far ahead I should be there to get the best possible view? Should I stand in queue for the wrist bands for the snake pit to be available (it says that they will be available at 3 p.m.)? Should I stand as close to the stage as possible, or as close to the walkway as possible...? I want to be close to the band (Yes, I do know I will be just by being in the snake pit) and have the possibility of getting a fist knuckle from James or something like that.
I have no fucking idea and it makes me a bit nervous so any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Stand near the back of the pit, near the left or right ramps, at the dip, right by the mics. You will be at the best spot ever. Picks will get dumped on your head, you will get multiple fist bumps from the guys, and you will see the entire stage perfectly.
If you desire to see Lars's ass crack for the last couple of songs, go to the back/center.
Get in ASAP, and grab your spot as close to these 2 spots I've described.
This is the advice I got from some of you here before my Pit experience 2 summers back and it was the best show I ever got to experience. If I wanted to, I could have grabbed all of them at many points, though do not do that or you will get tossed out.
Here is a couple clips I took from that show, as you can see, there isn't any better place to be. If you are too close to the stage, you will have a crap view unless you are 9 feet tall.

Oh yeah, when I got my wrist band, I didn't have to wait more than 5-10 minutes and was fine to get back into the main entrance queue. As soon as the gates opened though I made a mad dash to the pit, got there and got my spot no problem.
You will feel like a champ as you walk by the whole regular front row on the other side of the barrier to get into the pit.
And be on the lookout for your local VIPs, and overall celebrities in pit, you never know who you will see in there since it is very safe and roomy in there. Band members and their families, TV hosts etc.

SicJes : Fuck yeah, that does look amazing! Thank you for such a thorough reply! Haha, I think I can live with and without seeing Lars's ass crack. If I understand correctly the queue for GA and Snake Pit is the same? The thing is I'm going there on my own, so I'm worried that I will lose my place in the main entrance queue when I leave it to get the wrist band... The gates open at 5:00 p.m. and it says that you can get a wrist band from 3 p.m., so when would you suggest me to start queuing at the latest to have a great chance at getting the spot I want? Did someone tell you where to go when inside the arena when you got the wrist band by the way, or was it easy to tell by yourself when you were making your way towards the barrier?

For me, near the main entrance, there was a tent booth set up that was marked "will call" or something, it was easy to spot. I got my wrist band from a table marked Pit passes. DO NOT FORGET YOUR I.D. AND INFO AND WHATEVER IT SAYS TO BRING WITH you to claim your stuff like it says in that e-mail.
From there on, yes you will be back in the main line, but think odds, there may be 500 people in front of you, but most of those people are going straight to the rail, not the pit.
Just to be safe, run like its D.Day once you can and go directly to either the left of the stage or right. There will be a little gap in the security barriers guarded by a by security guy. You show him your band and he let's you in. From there you will walk in front of the stage between the front row all the way to center under the walkway and back out into the pit.
Just get your band ASAP and back into line, maybe check the official board for someone in the same boat you could hook up with as a line buddy and take turns getting your stuff?
Run, run, run! Of course, this was 2 years ago, things may gave changed. They'll give you a little hand drawn map photocopy probably, I think I got one of those when the gave me my band.

I probably won't during the show, but this is my spot: Let's just say I'm pretty satisfied with it.

This here is the reason I can't see myself running to the rail. Gotta get thru the opener act and then Metallica's set without a slash - maybe 20 years ago
Are people really taking bottles? Did the Snake pit get its name from this practice?

Did the Snake pit get its name from this practice? Lol I pee so often now as I get older, I don't know how I used to do the whole on the rail for 10 straight hours thing.

Exactly mate. Metallica shows in 2010 - I was leaving the floor to head out for a pee during ONE. Guy close by said to me WTF man, they are playing ONE?! I'd been waiting for the pissbreak song for ages and couldn't wait any longer. All good, I was back before the last half

The last time I peed before the concert was around 2 p.m. The next time I peed was at around 12 a.m. I had an awesome time! Took a while to get used to having to turn around every now and then depending on where the band members were standing.
Bokassa were quite good and headbanger-inducing.
Ghost were great! It's not my favorite thing to see them in daylight, but they were great considering those circumstances. I got to interact with one of the guitar ghouls right in front of my face during a part of Mummy dust which was awesome. Shook hands with three ghouls I think. One of the ghoulettes complimented the Ghost logo I had put on beside my eye which was cool. The ghoulettes are so sassy and sweet.
Metallica were great too, but two things weren't as great: The sound wasn't as good as for the opening bands which was weird. The most promiment thing was how every snare hit had a irritating echo. I guess it had to do with the arena acoustics or something, but I've never experienced that at this stadium before and I thought the sound would be at its best at where I was standing, but nope. The other thing was that the setlist could have been a lot more exciting than what we got. The interactions with the band members made up for it though, and it was so awesome getting to experience that! Lars walked past me once but that was it with him. Rob was in front of me playing 2-3 times at least. Never got a high five or fistbump from him though. Kirk was in front of me about the same amount as Rob and at one point he let us strum on his guitar which was cool. : D
The most exciting thing was (of course?) the interactions with James though. I got a fistbump, high five and even a handshake from him which was so awesome, and it was such an experience having him playing and rocking out right in my face basically and feeling and being part of that energy. Just seeing his back while he was singing in the mic in front of me was really memorable. The first time he sat down on his knees in front of me rocking out he let out a falsetto "yeaaah" which was a funny detail. About the fistbump I mentioned...I got one from James as I said, and also one from Kirk. The thing is that I failed at both though, haha. When James was going for a fistbump while playing really close to me I didn't notice until I felt his hand and at that moment I was making the horns with my hand, so it became a fist-horn bump I guess. : P With Kirk I failed in a similar way: I saw him coming down the ramp about to pass me by, so I held out my hand looking to get a highfive, but instead he fistbumped my hand, so it became a fist-high-five bump instead. : P At the end of the show they didn't throw That many picks at where I was standing actually. I managed to get two in total though (two of the same; the one that James shows just before starting to play Enter sandman) so I guess that's alright. When James came over to where I was standing to thank us he was going for some contact (handshakes, fistbumps, whatever), but there were so many hands there trying to make contact so I suddenly found myself holding his forearms for a second instead. : P

Good times. The snare echo didn't happen for me, so who knows. Looks like you where in the exact spot I was.

Out of the 40 + met shows I've been too, the snare echo is always the killer. It's not always prominent, but if I listen closely I can almost always pick it up. It's so annoying. I've been in the snake pit a couple of times, huge snare echo at all occasions :-/
Glad you had a cool time though, it really is an amazing experience being there. Especially when James goes down on you... I mean, when he rocks out on his knees.
