To compare:
another death magnetic fiasco or is it really this bland?

I'm not hearing any noticeable autotune. Whereabouts is it? another death magnetic fiasco or is it really this bland? You mean brickwall mastering? I doubt that's going to happen again. I also wouldn't trust ANY online versions of the song. All uploads go through a conversion process so what you're hearing may not be what's actually in the file. I'll wait until I have my CD/vinyl copy before I judge I guess.

The original S&M was so good that I don't even listen to the studio versions of songs like Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn, I only listen to the S&M versions, those songs just sound flat and boring without the orchestra after hearing them with it. Plus the audio quality on the original S&M album is phenomenal.

Just listened to Moth in My car and I gotta say it sounded a lot better in there. Which is acceptable for your friend’s band that was mixed on his laptop, but for Metallica it’s pretty strange for the balance to be so different depending on where you listen to it.

Why would you do such a thing? 😱 to hear anything buried in the mix but it was just symphony following the riffs most of the part.

It has leaked.

My internet has stopped me from downloading leaks from the normal sites for the better part of 3 years now. Piracy has felt effectively dead to me for awhile, it’s wild.

My takes, which I posted on Judas but obviously deleted quick by the obnoxious mods over there:
- The orchestra, which I feared based on the singles would be mixed way down is actually pretty prominent in the mix of many of the songs - and that is great. - What is not great is the mixing of the drums. As always, they are way too loud. That gives little to no room for the guitars which to my ears should be much higher. The bass is great.
The problem with this, just in my opinion, is that Lars is no human metronome (probably a bit of a understatement) which we both love him and hate him for. He is of course the weak link which makes some of the arrangements between the orchestra and the band sound like a total mess because his timing can be a bit all over the place. The '99 release had much more great timing and groove.
In my mind this is what prevents it from being a perfect release. To the casual listener this probably won't be noticeable and it makes no difference whatsoever, but a little quirk I have. Anyways, moving on..

The fanboys and girls (seems to get worse by the day), the overbearing mods, the Dan suckups...But it’s like an addiction to be honest. I can’t see how I’d stop going. And yeah they’re really going hard with deleting posts. Any mention of the word ‘leak’ is getting axed.

Man, listening to a bit of the original slightly before hearing S&M2 was the mistake of the year. The drums in the intro to Ktulu sound fucking rough, mix wise, compared to the original S&M. And the playing's not too hot either. But god damn that bass. That fucking bass. Orchestra's cool too I guess, but that fucking bass line.

There was a cool S&M2 article posted up where Fidelman talks about working with Rob to perfect Ktulu before the shows. I think it may have been the article that focussed on capturing the sound with all the mics on stage and within the orchestra, etc.

Listened to it. Didn't like it. Have to say, I have no more general interest in live Metallica anymore except for them playing rarities and new stuff. It's not like the old songs are gonna get better. and I've heard them too many times.

Although I liked it, I can't be the only one who is bothered by every live show mixed by Greg Fidelman sounding like HTSD.

I’m actually surprised that it’s getting a fair bit of criticism on the forums. Mostly the mix and the split screen shots.
When the packages were announced I initially considered the blu-ray and cd combo. But it’s more than likely that I’d watch it once and never again. And I can just stream the album. I just feel so ‘been there done that’ with this. And it was done a lot better before.

The mix is pretty meh and the editing is pretty bad. Stupid splitscreen gimmick shots and yet we still don't see Rob play the fucking bass intro. You know, only the most iconic part of the song. I didn't even realize that he was playing the Cliff signature bass from Aria until somebody pointed it out in the comments. No wonder it sounded so good. Must be some magic in that pickup.
I'll have to echo the complaints and add some of my own: S&M2 feels like a wasted opportunity. They didn't really add anything to S&M, the concept, and I don't really feel like it justifies its existence.

Okay new versions of The Day That Never Comes and Halo On Fire are great but me thinking if symphony worked with two newmetallica ballads why the fuck not Fade To Black? Or where the fuck is Orion? I didn't undertand their rule of not adding anything from older albums. and LMAO'd at split screen edit with not a fkin single sign of Rob in it.

Yeah I'm really not interested, I'll listen to it when it appears on Spotify as a curiosity, mainly keen to hear Outlaw Torn, but will likely be a one time play.

Yeah, half the setlist being the same as the first S&M killed it for me. Such a missed opportunity.
Another thing that made the first S&M special was the fact that we got two new songs.
