Preordered the deluxe box set. Mmmmmmm bring it on! Same! Really not a bad deal with the 20% off. I got mine through Amazon. Not enough cash to cover it at the moment but release date is on payday!!

Luckily the deluxe edition is gonna be released locally here. No way in hell I pay those outrageous shipping costs, whether it's US or EU Store. Absolutely mad.

Welp, I'm sure this is getting deleted in no time. Sure, there is a ton of ass kissing that goes on over there, but that's the norm.

Don’t have a huge interest in this so will be skipping the boxsets/packages/retail and will wait for it to hit Spotify.
It’s the Black album box set I’ve been waiting for!

I pre-ordered thru Met site. Couldnt be arsed doing the sums but the 5th member discount should make up for the ridiculous shipping cost. Deluxe set is coming....no DVD so will have to finally buy a Bluray player. Did everyone enter the contest for the opportunity to buy the Special Box with the sigs?
EDIT - JB Hifi in Aust have put huge prices on these items. Looks like Metstore is the place to shop, which is not the norm. $103US for the deluxe box content is pretty damn good.

Holy shit, that contest is for a chance to buy the $299 ($429 AUD) boxset. Sorry but I don't understand how that price can be justified.
The remastered album vinyl deluxe boxsets are cheaper, and give live shows on vinyl, CD, DVD, multiple CDs full of outtakes, demos, a huge book full of content, plus the actual remastered album. The deluxe album boxsets are completely worth the value in my opinion, they are like time capsules of different era of the band, completely jam packed with content.
This one gives you the same album on CD, vinyl, BluRay and MP3. A poster and some guitar picks and some sheet music signed by the band.
The exact same boxset without the signatures is $103 ($147 AUD), still over priced if you ask me but not sure how the signatures are worth an extra $200...especially since they sent out those awesome letters to Aussie black tickets holders last year with their sigs on them!
It's all a hard pass for me.

I’ll probably pick up the blu-ray / cd combo when it hits amazon, but I’ll have to think about it. I really don’t expect it to have the lasting power that the original did. Plus I was 17 then and ate up everything the band did. I bought and enjoyed the Through the Never soundtrack, but I’ve probably only listened to it 10 times, if that.
Just release the damn black album box set already!

It's all a hard pass for me. Yes r.e. the Super Deluxe box. It makes me feel the same way the bajillin dollors Reclaimed Rust book set did: nah I'm ok....... **SNARK ALERT**.....I don't need a super duper set to priove my fandom. I'm 40. I've been listening since I was 8. That's enough for me. These high price items feel so much like giving people the chance to show to the world how much of a fan they are. But fandom is not owning all the exclusive merch, it's deeper than that. But ya wanna drop a couple of hundred on a book that comes with a metal plate and a jizz rag? Be my guest. **END SNARK ALERT**I think the music sheets in teh regular deluxe won't be actual sheets but copies (plus no sigs). I suspect that eh super box those will be some actual chagrts plus sigs. Either way, I bought the regular deluxe box cos I'm a total mark for Metallica and they have their own pipeline into my wallet. Now. Bring me my fucking BLACK ALBUM BOXSET YOU BASTARDS.

yeah, I feel these super-high priced sets like the $299 S&M2 deluxe and the Deluxe Reclaimed Rust are really all about securing signatures, mostly James' due to his no shows at the M&G's etc
I pre-ordered my Rust book as soon as it appeared on Amazon, well before a deluxe release was even announced. Normally that bothers me but the deluxe one is way over priced. Would I entertain buying it if I didnt already have sigs? Maybe, but you need to put limits on things, there's more to life than Metstore merch.
Gotta admit even after securing the S&M2 deluxe box, I almost hit Go on those burnt orange vinyls - they look schmick. Add to that the frenzy posting on the other forum with people listing everything they've bought and its easy to just press a button. Metallica and Co know all about how to do that, make no mistake. No offense either, do it if you can, nobody is forcing anything on anyone, its just there if you like it.
Yepsure, the Black Ticket letter was special. But you cant really compare them to the signed Deluxe S&M2 box - remember there were not a lot of them, they certainly weren't available to anyone to purchase and crucially they did not have James' sig. Also, as mentioned, those scores would be actually used on the night sheets (pretty cool really)

I agree: each to their own with their fandom. if it's important for an individual to have signatures then great. For me it's not. Cos here's the thing: you put them in a nice frame, you hang them on the wall, then, at some point, you die and they get thrown in the bin with 95% of the rest of the shit we clutter our lives up with.
And believe me, I'm just as guilty of consumerism as the next idiot.
I've got lars's autograph. Does it matter to me? not really. the phot matters way more... but way MORE than that: the memory. I know that for a couple of hours of my life I hung out with lars. And that#s good enough for me. But it's all good in my eyes - there's something for everyone. You got the kind of cash to splash out on super duper deluxe boxes? Awesome. That's there for you, go grab it and enjoy it.
And fucking yes.... I was also tempted to buy the orange marbled set. Fuck. But I'm not going to. I'm not. No.
Am I?
Shit.

They released Moth Into Flame.
I still can't hear the symphony tho.

This is a much more band-heavy mix than the other two songs they released. I'm worried that that's gonna be the case with the new songs, because the symphony generally has a lot less remarkable parts than the songs from the original S&M. They followed the guitars for about 80% of this song.
Unrelated: Moth is gonna be a mainstay in their sets until they retire. Quote me on that.

Just gonna copy/paste my reply on Judas. It's probably about to be deleted anyways:
This track sounds like a total mess, as it did in the theatre. The orchestra doesn’t complement anything. It sounds like two worlds colliding.
I was hoping the extra magical Fidelman work would fix it to release, but whatever. 90% of the rest is still going to be great - I hope.

I'll definitely agree. Most of the performance really just sounded like the band playing Moth into Flame live, except with little corrections here and there (perfect double bass, autotune on James) with a very vague symphonic accompaniment. Love 'em or hate 'em, Michael Kamen's charts never sounded like a bunch of vague nothingness. This one really kind of did.

When I saw the show live, it did feel like watching songs from S&M live mixed in with watching normal performances live. Confusion and Halo also had nothing extra added. TDTNC had some cool moments in the first half, and AWMH was obviously completely revamped (I'm sure that's why it was the first single).

The symphony added nothing to the song. What a missed opportunity.

I think at this point, not really. I did for the time just because it existed. Now, I don't really even like the approach the symphony had, and didn't think it lent well to many of the songs. Plus the handful of songs that were in there because it was the Reload phase, that really should have been replaced with older Metallica songs that actually have classic influence. Which they still didn't really do this time. I know, the answer is I probably won't like this then. Like S&M1, maybe I'll dig a few tracks.

Really wasn’t impressed with Moth. The uptempo songs didn’t seem to translate well. And James doesn’t sound great, especially considering the vocals would’ve been touched up (and even re-recorded maybe?) in post production.
