I think the Black Album box set will be super successful whenever they sell it, where’s they need to milk the S&M2 thing before people forget about it. Yeah I agree with that, I'm actually really looking forward to watching s and m2 at home on my big system in 4k... I really enjoyed it at the cinema and I'm sure the extra bits they'll add on to the home version will be cool too.

Well, either way, they missed the Christmas sales window for both items, I guess TBA will eventually come. With each more recent album, the pool of rarities becomes less and less I imagine. Really curious to see what they include.

I hope they put the Live Shit tour book in there. Getting it as a low rez, impossible to look at, ROM file in the DVD release wasn't any good, though understandable for the lower cost they were going for. (I assume Live Shit itself will be in there as well, but I don't expect anything enhanced to be done to it)

There must be hours and hours of cut footage from a year and a half. It would be interesting to see the shots before or after the shots we know so well.

So, I spent a small fortune to see Metallica blow an opportunity to have the greatest concert of all time. They didn't pull out massive hits that would benefit from the Orchestra. Instead they played in extremely safe and only their radio hits and current album.
With that being said and true, does anyone know when this video will release?
Also, I think Hetfield's relapse was do to his displeasure with the taking.

Also, what would you have wanted them to play? Lars has strongly indicated that it will be August.

You gotta understand that everything pre 91 under no circumstances cannot be associated to a radio and every black album single is absolutely nowhere near being massive.

Radio, since the early 90s, at least here in the US, plays the shit out of Metallica, that includes pre-TBA material. Like, how Stairway to Heaven was never released as single, but it became a hit anyway. That is the case for the following songs:
Seek and Destroy For Whom the Bell Tolls Fade to Black Master of Puppets Welcome Home Blackened Breadfan
^I probably missed a few
Radio stations around the country had weekend programs called names like 'The Mighty Met', 'Mandatory Metallica.' There were so many requests for Metallica songs, from their whole catalog, that they gave Metallica their own hour (or more) No other band had that. Here, in TX, there was a nationally syndicated radio station called Zrock. Breadfan was the longest no.1 song ever (20+ weeks) on that station, nationwide (until a STP song in 95). And that was in the late 80s.
At least from my view, growing up, Metallica were a lot more popular and beloved than maybe some remember. (it's regional of course)
If you want to say TBA singles weren't 'massive', you'd have to be judging on Pop chart terms. Let's say, they were long, steady burners on rock radio. They were big hits, and the TBA ended up becoming the biggest selling album (all genres) of the Soundscan era, after all these years. It wasn't even close to the biggest selling of the 90s. It just never stopped selling.
Sandman is played at every sporting event in America now. It's Gen Y's 'We Will Rock You.'

Any speculation on what box set means? It looks like it's just a vinyl box, probably with a digital download and Blu-ray inside. But I wonder if they're cooking up more cool stuff besides the standard behind the scenes footage.
I've always wanted some soundcheck/rehearsal audio professionally mixed to get more of a studio-meets-orchestra live thing, so that would be super awesome if they were actually gonna dive deep into the bonus tracks.

Yep, the size says vinyl. Blu-Ray, yes.... would they continue to release DVD though? I hope so, but can see the time is almost done, if not already. Hoping for a doco of sorts too. if there's still room in the box maybe some picks from the night, a poster....they've been releasing lots of artwork these days.

To be honest I've kind of lost interest in this. I was mostly disappointed in the setlist outside of a few highlights like Day, Unforgiven III, and All Within My Hands. I'm glad S&M2 happened in the end, but I feel it could have been much better.

I'm glad S&M2 happened in the end, but I feel it could have been much better. The thing I was the most disappointed with was the orchestral arrangements for the newer songs. They basically add nothing 'cause it feels like they stay too true to the original compositions, which (most often) wasn't the case with Michael Kamen's arrangements.

Even in person there was a clear difference between how interesting the orchestra was on old songs versus new ones.

I was disappointed that instead of doing something amazing like Orion they did like 20 minutes of that boring orchestra only stuff. I'm pretty sure if Metallica fans wanted to see just classical music they would have already been to a classical concert.

I feel like it was a total missed opportunity in general to limit the new tracks to material that was released after the original S&M rather than revisiting some of the choices they didn't go with in 1999 like Orion or something.

Well, I hope they cut out some of the long winded parts, and made the show a more direct, in your face, listening experience. All the talking before those classical pieces and the pieces themselves could go as a bonus extra kind of deal. Surly something I would 95% skip forward if left as is. I liked them, but they detracted from the flow and vibe of the show IMO. I wouldn't be adverse to switching around some of the set order as well for that reason.

A direct in your face cut could be a cool bonus feature, but I really like all of that talking in the second set. It made the first set feel like what you expected from S&M, and the second set was this "how crazy can we get and also educate everyone on what we've been doing here"; I got a lot out of it.
S&M2 was definitely a lot more of a 'guys having fun' vibe than the first one.
