I personally think it's a toss up between the 90s and 00s. What about you?

1980's. It's when the best metal album ever made came out (Puppets) as well as all that awesome 80's pop music.

I think you meant to say Ride, Smithers. Ride is very close to being as great as Puppets but Puppets has Orion.

I'm going to go 60s. Tons of Psych and proto heavy music, great stuff like the Beatles and the Stones, and tons of great Jazz. The more I explore music the more I'm amazed at how much amazing music has been released in every decade though.
And now is crazy! So much music is released every single week! It's pretty likely that if I could listen to everything that came out I would find a couple newly released albums I love every week. But I can't and it's so hard to sort through the noise.

Every decade since the 50's had its ups and downs, with the exception of the 2010's which were unquestionably the worst.
Overall, 60's and 90's tie, both saw explosions of timeless music.

I can't vote on one era. I would say the 70s are my least favorite. I love a lot of 50s stuff, makes me feel like I'm a kid in some past life from that era. Soda pop stands, shooting marbles in a back alley behind a drugstore in small town America. all that fun stuff. When being a kid was just being a kid and you had it all ahead of you. But I also love the Metal and everything else I grew up with since the 80s

Well we know some of our favourite shit came from the 80's but that decade came with a lot of cringey baggage. Many of the songs that filled the charts thru the 80's are downright embarrassing.....I could never buy enough metal records to compete with that.
So I voted 60s. A lot happened in those 10 years. And its filled with albums from Beatles, Stones, Who, Doors, Hendrix, Simon & Garfish, Miles Davis, Animals, Yardbirds, Kinks...and CCR and Pink Floyd saw out the 60's with great music

'90's, that's the era I was into music growing up.
Metallica, Guns n roses, Nirvana, Green Day, The Offspring, ... It all started for me in the '90's.

Best time is definitely right now. I wasn't saying everything current was good. Because it isn't. But it's only logical that the current time is the best, because it has the best of the current era, and all the good stuff from the past.
If you disagree, you're wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I didn't say I didn't like pop music. I just said nowadays it's horrible compared to what it used to be but there's some diamonds in the rough for sure.

Some interesting points in this clip. I guess not a coincidence that I became a Metallica fan at 14 then, huh. But still, that Gucci Gang song makes me want to stab myself in the ears. That is objectively just worse, than any era, familiarity bias be damned.

I wanna add that the 60's period should also be praised for the quality of albums in short timeframes.
Does anybody release an album a year anymore while maintaining the quality or better yet, raising the bar each release? (subjective I know, but you get the point)

I unironically enjoy modern rap.
I don't hate Lil Pump. I like some Migos songs. I like Cardi B. I like some 21 Savage songs.
None of these are my favorite artists or even hip hop artists but I actually like some "mumble rap".
You're welcome to think I'm dumb lol.
But seriously good music still comes out even in rap. Some of my favorite releases of all time have been this decade in rap. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasty, Yeezus, Good Kid MAAD City, To Pimp a Butterfly, XXX (Danny Brown), Atrocity Exhibition, etc. I feel like people overrate how bad music is now because of what's mainstream/on the radio.

Dare I say the music that came out in the late 90's to early 00's was actually my favorite of all time. It has a specific quality to it that hadn't been replicated before and couldn't be after. Music just sounded so good at that time, like it had reached it's pinnacle.
No I'm not talking about Nu Metal that was popular at that time. That still sucks.
Pantera's Trendkill and Steel. Godspeed's 2 giant albums. Radiohead's OK Computer and Kid A. Neutral Milk Hotel's Aeroplane. Bungle's California. Opeth's Blackwater Park. Tool's Aenima and Lateralus. Isis Panopticon. QOTSA Songs for the Deaf. Sleep's Dopesmoker. Nine Inch Nail's Fragile and the list goes on.
